I visited that London Arcade as a student, way back in the 2000s. It's awe inspiring. I feel lucky to have had the privilege.
Being that it was so long ago, I don't remember specific details, only that it was not neglected like most of London. Whoever owns it was taking good care of it at the time and I could have stayed all day, but it's too small and costly to do so and I had a date with the Tower of London.
I had one day to hoof it through London, as I had scheduled a layover so I could see London before going to Spain. No, I;n not well-traveled, just took the opp to travel as much as possible in college, basically every summer, I took classes abroad.
As a Native Detroiter, I surprised myself, dropping the xenophobia to see things I never thought I'd see. Go, if you can.

I've been to the Burlington Arcade in Piccadilly in London and this is a great reconstruction. The London arcade is patrolled by security guards known as "beadles" who maintain order. There is no whistling allowed in the arcade which dates back to the 1800s and is still enforced to this day. Back then the upper levels were occupied by prostitutes who used to whistle a warning to the pickpockets below. Great video, had no idea this existed in the US :)

This is the "South Lake" area of Pasadena, I stumbled on this 10 years ago and go often. "Contessas" is awesome they have drinkable chocolate, which is how chocolate was originally consumed 300 years ago. If You go across to "Macy's" they have artifacts from the original " Bullocks Wilshire" on display through out the store......Have Fun!

The opening at midday thing on a sunday might be a reference to English trading laws, which state that most shops can only open for 6 hours on a Sunday - most choose 11-5 or 12-6.

As a Londoner, I've been through the original Arcade on my way to work and during rainy lunch hours !!!
This seems a lovely representation. Brent Cross in North London is a classic 1977 mall, check it out if you ever come to London.

Having Lived both in London and Pasadena, I can say the Pasadena copy is faithful to the original, though it is about 1/3 as long, and has no where near the posh level of shops the London Burlington Arcade. It is located in the Piccadilly area of London, There are additional arcades in the Piccadilly area, The Royal Arcade, the Piccadilly arcade and the Princes arcade. The shops in the original and the copy are small is square footage, but have a lower ground floor and one above the ground floor. We would call the upper floor the Second, but the Brits call the upper floor the First Floor and the ground floor we would call first, is called Ground.

Nice little retail mall. Obviously wouldn't work in a colder climate although it does work in England.

I'll never understand nail salons. Why go to such crazy lengths for some end of the finger pampering...

Once you experience it, you'll know why. I prefer getting pedicures though when I go and it's just for summer. I don't do it faithfully due to other priorities, but a good technician can make your day.

It isn’t all that safe, actually. Skin infections waiting to happen... people just need to be extra careful. Some antibiotic ointment afterwards (and maybe before) could be a good idea.
