Knew nothing about Joanna Lumley before watching this Nile documentary. She is an absolute gem. So open and inclusive to cultures extremely different from her own. She is brave, beautiful, elegant, smart, warm and a natural at delivering historic information in engaging documentaries. Her humor, which is delightful, is honest, vulnerable and thought-provoking. I'm a HUGE fan, now, Joanna. Your Nile documentary was almost like I was there with you. BRAVO! Now I will look for more of your work.

I have to say, that these four episodes were quite an emotional journey for me.
Ever since I was five years old, after seeing the mummies at the Field Museum of Natural History (Chicago) with my mother, I have been absolutely enamoured with Egypt and everything Egyptian.
I would like to thank Joanna for such an amazing journey, along with all whom she met along the way.
I have many Ethiopian friends here, so it was a delight to see where their joy and kindness originated via the people that Joanna encountered.
Also, there is nothing like a home cooked Ethiopian meal, esp. w/that wonderful injera.
The whole trip had me under a spell.
However, the baptism was what really got me good.
I cried the whole way through it.
I am not a religious person, I do consider myself spiritual...and I def. felt the spirit of the priest, his actions and words coming through as if he were right next to me.
    I felt love....unconditional love.
Thank you so very much Joanna and all involved in the making of this treasure.
I don't know if I will ever make it to Egypt, but the little girl in me is quite pleased, after having found herself on this journey, even if from afar.
And by the way, I do think you are truly abfab Joanna.
    Mucho shukrun!

Each one is a unique presentation by Joanna and have fallen in love with her natural stature and genuineness. Her gesture of leaving that carved man in his canoe was pretty symbolic & thoughtful. Ms.Lumley has made the best one I've ever seen on the subject of the Nile and her constant friendly 'I can do this' spirit and her humor, her personal touches, are what really makes this simply the best! Lovely documentary... Growing up in Uganda in the 1990s' in primary school, we always debated whether the source of the Nile was in Jinja/Uganda or in Rwanda via River Kagera...

I absolutely love Joanna. I love her natural spontaneity and simple childlike enthusiasm for life. I would love to travel with her as a friend. She gives me hope and inspiration. There is a song called “Give me hope Joanna”.
