Age of aquarius was my most played album on Spotify last year.
    Absolutely perfect

I agree on that Farm album. I heard all that hype so I streamed it and decided it was nothing special so I passed on it. Always cool to find a Dead Can Dance album. The Villagers group sounded very interesting, crazy how much the albums go for, crazy.

I’d categorize this Villagers of Ionnina City album as progressive rock. For sure with that Greek mysticism vibe though

I am similar, with reaction, record reviews, etc, to you, but I am a huge fan of Villagers of Ioannina City and I also live in Ioannina, so your thumbnail piqued my interest.
VIC is a very popular band in Greece, and in Europe (especially the rest of the Balkans), especially after Nepalm stepped in, which was quite recent. They actually started with some free lives in Greece when they first dropped Riza and that helped a lot because their music doesn't appeal only to rock and metal fans, but to Greeks in general, I think their great live abilities, along with the traditional and rock/metal, a scene that is actually big in Greece, helped their exposure immensely. Riza was mostly covers of traditional Greek songs from Ioannina and the rest of Epirus but with additional original parts of theirs and the use of clarinet and bagpipes as well as many other flutes are the core instruments of Greek folk music, thus they kept them in. The lyrics also play on themes of Greek folk songs.
Age of Aquarius is an album I adore, that being said I would love for them to form an album on par with AoA, but with Greek lyrics and vocals, since I find their voices work best in Greek, but maybe it's just me. Their albums are amazing and I'm glad people find their sound interesting, bc it is exceptional how they mix the mostly pentatonic, slow, and heavy music of Epirus with rock.
I really enjoyed the video and I will have to check Dead Can Dance!

Thanks for stopping by and sharing your perspective! I’d love to hear them sing in Greek as well, even though I wouldn’t understand. That’s what liner notes are for, lyric translations.
