Villagers of Ioannina City or VIC are from a particular area here in Greece called Epirus. Epirus is the a very folk influenced region here in Greece. They were rock fans and they were playing rock since they were kids. At some point they decided to combine the local folk music with rock. They made something incredible because last few decades folk music has lost its magic and worth and it has become cheap music in the minds and ears of the people. They combined good quality rock with the magical colors of local music. Their favorite folk instrument that they use is called clarino and it is a kind of clarinet that we have here in Greece. In this song they mainly used gaida, a local bagpipe and I noticed a bit of clarino at some point. They have also used bouzouki once or twice that is a string instrument, it is the folk instrument of the cities. The other two are instruments of the country side/villages. They have quite a few good songs and I recommend to you to take a look at them, they are pretty unique, atleast for Greece.

I just love this band. Not one bad song. The instruments are traditional greek (some are quite common in the rest of Europe as well, eg bagpipes). Glad you liked it.

The entire Age of Aquarius album is stellar. I just have listened to the CD in my car more than 50 times before listening to anything else. The first 3 tracks are my favs.
