I'm a desert rat... I think the best part of watching/learning about your way of life is when you toss the "illegal to keep" critters overboard and give them a treat as a send off! Love it!
Dear Jacob, I've enjoyed these "not so fun part" videos even more than your education/lobster grooming videos. The nitty gritty details are what make our lives and allow success. Also, I run a facility with an awful lot of small, moving parts, so I really feel you on the difficulty of keeping that kind of system running.
There's a lot of regulations, and I understand why they are there and appreciate what they do, but I also think it's important to see how they affect the fishermen like you. Thank you for explaining how all of this stuff works. I always learn so much from your videos and it's all very interesting!
There is something about the way you talk and explain the business that makes it so interesting. I've been watching your short vids for a while, and this is the first longer one I've seen. Keep it coming! I love it.
Jacob's dad taught him almost everything he knows about lobster fishing. Pretty sure he has said he worked with his dad when he was younger. Jacob is a good dad, just like his dad, is a good dad. ❤
It’s good to see the inner workings of lobster fishing, people need to know why lobster are so expensive. Fishing in general is expensive also. Thank you for all you do and teach us the importance of respect for the environment.
I used to do maintence on some of the Humvees for the Army, and I thought that the steel cable on the winch was the cause for it wearing out like that. But I guess just friction alone will destory any material. That's an impressie divet on the rope wedge there...
It's something that happens on climbing gear too. Just the rope rubbing is enough to cut though quicklinks, carabiners and anchor rings. Its enough of an issue that you are expected to clip your own biners to anchor bolts to wear your own gear and not the stuff stuck in the rock.
"These aren't turnin' we ain't earnin' " You are just full of great euphemisms. :) Keep up the great work Jacob! Watching the alewives run in Damariscotta is pretty amazing!
I think that's good that you mark your lines/ropes so they can be tracked. To many marine animals are dying from being entangled in lost ropes, so I love that you're doing what you can to prevent that. Also, liking that little helper you added to the crew, he's a little cutie
I appreciate your patience and attention to detail to explain all of this. I also love knots. Seeing the inner workings helps folks to understand the cost and the price of the food we eat.
AWWW little man is so cute!!!! 🥰 Love your channel even though I don't like seafood 🦞🤣 I loved watching Bowie and I hope one day you catch him/her again ❤
Fascinating to see the different regulations that are in practice to protect wildlife put into practice irl. The colored ropes are a cool idea. Thanks for showing us the land side of the business too! Hard work!
To be honest, I started watching the channel because you are in Maine. My mother is from Skowhegan, and my fondest childhood memories are visiting my grandparents there and the beautiful scenery. In the grandparent's older years, they moved to southen New Hampshire, so I haven't been to Maine in about 50 years. Now, I really love the channel and find the lobster industry fascinating. (even though i don't like lobster 😁) You are great at explaining how, what, and why you do things to a point anyone can understand it. Thanks for sharing what you do.
I am so happy you have your son with you at work! My husband was in the Navy for over 2 decades and our sons couldn't really go to work with him, but we did our best to show they what he did. BLESSINGS to you and your family!
Hey Jacob. I've be watching for a while and I love the videos , but I always wonder have you or the crew ever get injured? I'm sure u guys deal with dangerous conditions
That little boy is so precious. The whole thing of what you do and you videos are so informative and fun to watch. I wish you all the luck in the world for a prosperous future. And hug the darling little boy for me. I'm a momma and love the way you speak to your son
In my youth I fished inshore lobster, crab and velvets alongside creel caught prawns from a village called Uig on the Isle Of Skye Scotland. All our creels were spliced from trap to dropper and the dropper to the mainline. We ran fleets of 25 lobster/crab creels or 50 prawn creels and hauled 12 fleets a day of prawn and perhaps 6 or 8 lobster fleets. Maintenance week was a nightmare of sore wrists from splicing all day every day. I like the look of your fid tucked lengths a lot better. Regards from Scotland.
Last catch of the year. Make sure to keep posting. Not even necessary about lobster fishing. Your videos are great. Often educational, always entertaining.
you have to be one of the best commentators for any CZcams video however you make following you an absolute pleasure that I look forward to and you seem to be one of the all time nice guys
Hey, JACOB!! I'd like to think that there must be some type of NO-RUST stuff to apply to that round silver thing that winds the rope up. Is there absolutely nothing to help that issue? (I'm the 60ish year old American woman who is a very southern Hoosier.)
An outstanding narrative of what it takes from the front end to bring a beautiful lobster table to my table in the Midwest.. great show fantastic narrative keep them coming
Thank you Jackob, I genuinely love your videos and shorts so much. You can tell just from watching, how much you care about these beautiful creatures. Never fails to make me smile when you send the ones you can't keep back with a snack❤ The way you go about caring for these animals that also provide your livelihood is so heartwarming and in many ways, restores my faith in humanity. Finally, the way you go about educating others is truly inspiring. You always make sure to explain whatever you are talking about, (like a specific term or a procedure) even if you explained it in a past video, and you always do it with such positivity and energy, that it truly invites you (the viewer) to feel included & wanting to learn about what you do. Please keep up with all the amazing work and positivity you are doing with these videos and shorts!🦞
Ty Jacob. Find this so interesting. You and your team were so hard and love you bring us along for the ride. Keep up the amazing videos, you are so watchable and warms my heart when I see a new post from your channel. UK fan xxxx
I admire your integrity. Following the rules and policies no matter the hassle because it matters to do the right thing. Your son is adorable. Good luck this season--so pleased to be along for the ride! ❤
Happy to be new subscriber. From Seattle originally and like to see the scenery in your videos. Similar to Seattle. Love the personalities in vids too.
I hope your CZcams funds help to improve your whole boat. It has been my understanding that any of you folks that make a living on the water have had a rough go the last 10-20 years (or more) and it is encouraging to see you guys out there doing your thing.
Jacob, I love your videos. I love learning about what you do and think its me like you and your dad and his all the way back that are the backbone of our country. Do you think your son will be interested in carrying on the tradition and become the 6th generation? I find that so awe-inspiring !
I love these informative videos almost more than the lobster catching videos. You don't realize how much goes into lobster fishing looking outside in. Thanks for posting these videos Jacob!
This is so fascinating. Thank you for sharing. I don't think people understand or respect other people's jobs. I don't even like lobster but I appreciate the work you're doing.
I love watching your content!! I'm a Canadian and have not found anything nearly as good as your videos!! I hope you keep it up, I love eating lobster and seeing the care you have fishing it is soo reassuring that we will be able to have it in our diets for a long time
Could you please include in a video about how you manage all that rope for the traps and keep it organized from all knotting up? Definitely looks and seems like you just have a system and would love to see/hear how it works!
I'm not an expert but I grew up in a lobstering community. Fishing is a lot like farming; at the end of the season you've made enough to get ready for the next season and get through a winter. If you didn't you borrow against the house for the boat.
lobsters put food on my table! lobsters are my corn! i cant know how to hear any more about lobsters!!! fr tho these are well done and interesting vids about an age old profession. thanks for doing your part and keeping the industry alive!
i wonder it it'd be cheaper to have a local metal worker make your steel runners for you, they seem very straight forward to make - :D love watching your videos mate
That discussion on bait fish has me thinking that someone could make a killing setting up a private hatchery and fish pool exclusively to sell bait fish, just so that fishing stocks can get given a break and some of those industries won't tank anymore.
I worked in wild blueberry plants downeast, we'd use UMHW a type of "plastic" on our conveyor belt sides, due to it'd take a while to wear out, wonder if you could use that for runners on your traps? I've no idea what the stuff costs, just used to replace it on occasion. Betcha some of the processor's would sell you their used stuff pretty cheap. Enjoy your videos Thanks!
Jacob. I’ve followed your vids since I bumbled across one around 18 months ago. Love the all. But dude, absolutely loved part 1 and 2 of this… explaining so many questions I hadn’t thought to ask. Love your work. P.s. Imagine if some guy became a bait fisherman for the lobster industry!? Money to be made, Money you’ll save!
The rope is the mechanism for wear, but the salt water and debris are your major sources of corrosion. The rope brings up some sand, creates micro-scratches in the metal, and the salt water goes to business. Were you just pulling that rope through the metal, it will certainly create some wear, but nothing like what you experience in a marine environment.
I wonder (assuming it's legal) if people are going to start double-buoying their equipment because of the break-away chain. Nothing like a little insurance to get your gear back to have a second line connected to it... Which, if that happens, will completely defeat the intent of the program, putting more lines in the water. It literally could make the problem worse.
Little man's loving his dad...That's called CRUCIAL family maintenance... Please continue providing the excellent content on this channel.. Absolutely am addicted to the float plane and ice fishing episodes... GOD BLESS
Very interesting all the maintenance!! You are excellent ant explaining!! All that handling of the rope it’s a wonder your hands aren’t ripped to shreds!!
Spent a week in BarHarbor loved it, great people and beautiful place. Thanks for sharing your time with us, it’s hard work and you do it with a smile and laughter. Your son is a sweetie.
Living in Colorado, I'm about as much of a landlubber as you can get, yet last vacation, before moving west... 1 week on the Maine Coast, eating in lobster pounds only!
Setting traps is always fun! Spring time fun! Do you dip in the fall or spring? Or, not at all? Patching can be a pain, painting buoys, easy. I was going to ask if you use cement runners or not.
I'm a desert rat... I think the best part of watching/learning about your way of life is when you toss the "illegal to keep" critters overboard and give them a treat as a send off! Love it!
I will never ! never ! complain about the price of lobster

This feels like I'm watching a show from National Geographic. So well done. 👍 Thanks for all the information you share. ❤

Hi, I never thought that I would interesting in learning about lobster. Thanks for your video.
i know!
Many thanks for keeping the traditions of our state and showing it to curious folks from away. The good and the bad aspects of it all.

Dirt in the rope.
Your boy looks just you. Great memories for you both.

It's obvious why you're successful. You're a good person and someone anyone would want to be friends with.

Thanks Jacob! Love all this maintenance stuff!
I'm super impressed by the lengths you go to protect the water/water-life you fish. Bravo man.
As a fellow New Englander (Vermont), who has been lobstering before, these videos are great. Keep em coming!!
Love this - love seeing you and your boy - love seeing all the behind the scenes stuff - this is excellent !!!
AWWW little man is so cute!!!! 🥰 Love your channel even though I don't like seafood 🦞🤣 I loved watching Bowie and I hope one day you catch him/her again ❤

7:34 glad to see you have your priorities in mind.

I wish Jacob would wear eye protection.
Love these videos!. Appreciate the time and detail shown in what goes into getting a Lobster from the sea to the dinner plate!. Nice one!
Nuff said. 🙂

@@sundarpichai940this is literally childhood grief. Are you even capable of empathy? No? Why are you a robot.
Love, that you are teaching your little one ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️.
Love learning the background of your work, which provides such wonderful food as lobster. Your son reminds me of me 55 years ago. 😊
Jacob, love the videos! We just got a recreational license and will be trying our hand at lobstering in casco bay. Thanks for all the info!

Such a hard way to make a living! Respect to you and the crew, Jacob!
Funny to look back, but also magical to look back and know your family has been there that long! Pretty cool to me!

Really digging this format of videos. It's all the stuff you never think of.
I live at the foot of Pikes Peak.
Watching your videos makes me wanna move to Maine and learn those knots!
Feels like you gave us a semester of lobstah catching
Loved this video. Thanks for telling us the cost factor that gets my wonderful Maine lobsters to my plate.

Jacob, Great video..thanks, love the info. P.S. ..nice guns.
Can you make a video on your total cost of operations? I will never be a fisherman, but I surely am curious.

Used to be a commercial lobsterman in Point Pleasant NJ and we mainly used fermented skate for bait. Man, that’s a smell that sticks with ya.
Very interesting 👌. Love this channel.

Spent a week in BarHarbor loved it, great people and beautiful place. Thanks for sharing your time with us, it’s hard work and you do it with a smile and laughter. Your son is a sweetie.
Your son is so cute in his little yellow boots!
Cool fid! I've never seen one like that. I used to work splicing Dyneema sail boat rigging and thought I'd seen 'em all.
Love the peek behind the curtain
Love your videos. I love lobster even more.
Lundy’s in Brooklyn
Thank you for doing the work to feed us with great seafood. Very intense
Wow, alewife, madhadden, I thought those were Maryland bait for crabs! It's wild to find out lobstermen use them too!
Great to see your future lobsterman hope he takes after you cuz I love lobsters
