What Breitling gets RIGHT

My silver-dial Chronomat was a birthday gift from my wife two years ago. The design, movement, case finishing, bracelet, dial, build quality are all top-tier for a sub-$10k watch. I have Rolex, Omega, Tag Heuer, Oris, micros and affordables in my modest collection, and that Breitling occupies a special place - sentimental reason aside. The leadership change put them on a terrific path going forward.

Absolutely stunning watch as you say. The one thing that drew my eye is the misaligned screw heads securing the tourbillon bridge. I was trained by a high class cabinet maker and this is crime in top end handmade furniture. Apples and oranges, I know, but at this price point, I can't unsee it.

My favorite watch, bar none, is my Breitlite Colt Skyracer. An under-talked-about easy to wear quartz that is ultra light, tough and accurate. I got it for 1800 CAD, and that's one hell of a deal.

I have connected with the Breitling brand, I have the 43 Wahawk with the B01 movement. It is a fabulous watch. When you hold a Breitling in your hands, the quality and finish felt more polished than some of the other brands that I have held.

If Kerns can figure out how to have Breitling lose < 10% MSRP on the aftermarket, Breitling will be #2 to Rolex for as long as he wants. I know “it’s not an investment”, “but what you love”, etc. etc., but as far as I can tell the HUGE depreciation the minute one walks out of the AD is literally the only thing to not like about Breitling today.

So this is the only thing keeping you from owning a Breitling? Why not buy secondary or grey market and let some else take the depreciation hit? That is how I buy my Breitling. Breitling offers watches that are beautifully made, have genuine heritage, and not part of a large conglomerate.

@michael. This is a fair question. I don’t buy grey b/c I doubt the authenticity of the product. I am not and never will be educated enough to spot an above avg fake, let alone a frankenwatch. Maybe buying from AD isn’t a guarantee either, but it’s the level of assurance that makes me feel like I have the ‘real McCoy’.

That "huge depreciation" happens to all but Rolexes & a handful of other watches, same as the car industry; or any other industry for that matter. Your comment amounts to: "boy, if he could change the entire industry to his favor, he'd really have something going." It's an absolutely absurd statement that cannot be made by any thinking person. You know, if Ford could make a car that wouldn't depreciate do much, they'd be a great car company! If Chateau Palmer appreciated like Chateau Margaux, they'd be on to something there! =/

I noticed it straight away without even holding it in my hand. I would expect the screws to align for a watch close to the 70k mark.

If they aligned the screws they would need to either loosen the screw or overtighten the screw.

The aligned slots in a Royal Oak are sleeves for the actual screws in the rear of the case that are not aligned.
