- This was my recording of the first ever EAN message (skip tp about 4:00 to see the test). I watched the weather channel during this test. The channel got tuned automatically, and a ticker showed up with the EAN message. However, there was an audio problem, as there was only static. I'm hoping they will improve that upon the next test. This was in the Minneapolis area on Comcast cable.

God i miss the old looking Local on the 8s
Esoteric NanBoii right
Same!
This is when the weather channel local on the 8s was 4,662 times better
I love the fact that the message scroll was the actual script from the old days of the EBS.
Conelrad actually it all started with conelrad since they started that script but in the conelrad era you had to tune in to either of the two am radio stations for information when it was replaced by the ebs it took the same script for the ean, but now the whole two radio stations thing became redundant and extended to like what is now primary entry points and all that
i need to get cable back...i miss the weather channel!!
I told them no heavy machinery in the test room. Cmon now.
If someone watching this specific test wasn't tuned to the weather channel or any other channel that let viewers know about the nationwide EAS test prior to it, as well as the person watching tv not realizing there's a test coming, that person will probably believe there's a real emergency situation affecting the US. I for one would've crapped my pants right then and there.
And I think that's why the National Periodic Test(NPT) event code was created, so they didn't have to use the EAN code just to test this shit on a scale like that.
Here’s the full text scroll:
This is an Emergency Action Notification. All broadcast stations and cable systems shall transmit this Emergency Action Notification Message. This station has interrupted its regular programming at the request of the White House to participate in the Emergency Alert System.
During this emergency, most stations will remain on the air providing news and information to the public in assigned areas.
This is (station call name). We will continue to serve the (EAS Local Area name area). If you are not in this Local Area, you should tune to stations providing news and information for your Local Area. You are listening to the Emergency Alert System serving the (EAS Local Area name) area.
Do not use your telephone. The telephone lines should be kept open for emergency use.
As per the 2007 EAS Handbook.
I miss the old jazzy Weather Channel
URGENT MESSAGE: Just recieved commercial on Tv about National EAS test from July 3, 2012 and will happen on November 9, 2012. Obviously, this test will be considered a yearly test
I really liked the Weather Channel for the Music that they used to play during the Local on the 8s from the mid 90s and early 2000s but now i don't care much for it anymore because they changed to this HD stuff also i liked the older song playlists that they did and the graphics i really liked the Weatherscope era from 1996 to1998 you can type in the term and Local on the 8s and there are a lot of videos that other users have posted if your not interested that is ok
On DirectTV, you would've heard Lady Gaga instead.
the weather sounded nice lol
“The EAS is paralyzed! It can’t move!”
Oh man that Local on the 8s though, miss that version so much
A few channels around here have the black screen on selective channels for whatever reason. Usually, comcast gives a red ticker with no message of a warning, as the program continued.
4:10 Join the Active EAS club today!
4:10
I wish could see this in person, but I missed it. Damn you school!
They should bring back this style of Local on the 8s 😔
They did it too on Univision 62 WVEA-DT in Tampa Bay, FL, but right when they were announcing where the test was effecting! Talk about a Spanish failure. Also, they have to do it in Spanish, not in English. They said it was a actual EAN, but it was just a test.
OOOOH That song in the beginning is MAH JAM
starts at 4:08
There is a Rockford in MN? I live in Rockford, IL. lol
skip to about 4:10.
I got the same thing, but 2 scrolls and no audio. I'm in the MLPS area as well.
i had a eas go off once it was thundering and hailing it said a tornado has been spotted in spartanburg county county im all like WHAT THE FUCK i was dying laughing
lol
i got a tornado warning requested by the White House ....
I love the music
That’s why there’s static?
Lol I saw the same exact broadcast in Minnesota
Dude same
let's have a ball- making fitness fun
What if you change the back
@ironike11 Yeah. You should have said 4:08, or 2:00 for a description.
What would have happened if you changed the channel during the test?
You cant change it or i think if you change the channel it stay the same
Aaron Hernandez Maybe it would have come up with an error?
You can't change it until the EOM tones come through or the cable provider turns off the EAS box.
+TheCarWashChannel You can't. The channel buttons don't work when the EAS is on.
You can change the channel, but it was broadcast on all channels with varying results of failure in the audio depending on the channel and what cable company you used.
Actually skip to 4:08.
Wow do you think that won't scare me huh
And the old weatherchannel
4:00
Sounds like someone's playing with guitar
