I literally woke up this morning to search up " African vernacular architecture" which is what western architects call our building techniques unfortunately. And although I don't like the use of the term 'vernacular' but I wanted to learn more about our ancient building techniques. This is wonderful. Aside from the techniques and materials, I believe that a large part of the problem is we have adopted the mindset of everything being large-scale and all about the individual. That can unfortunately have as negative. If everyone's trying to build an individual large scale home with acres of land, even with the most natural of materials, it was still not be sustainable. Abandoning our community-first mindset has cost in so many terrible ways.
