    I've been wanting (and asked) to run some endgame groups content together with our discord Phamily members. I liked the idea, but I wanted to set some guildes:
    * ANYONE would be able to join, regardless of skill or experience level
    * We would take out the pressure to perform, for both new and experienced players
    We came up with a comp that simply works. Auto-attack guardians that do 26k dps and have access to copious amounts of Aegis. Heralds who provide permanent stability, and Scourges who can clean up any mistake that's possible being made.
    The results were stellar. We had multiple first timers in our group, and all of them not only made it through the fights, they helped carry them!
    We're taking this into raids this week, and will find out how it goes :)

    This was a lot of fun! I've never done group content, only did fractals once and got carried. This felt "easy" and to the point. I learned how to heal scourge, did a lot of mistakes, never got criticized , got a lot of positive reinforcement and now I have a new appreciation for the game and am ready to get the content going. Watching the vod later I also got a better understanding of the fights because I know exactly what I was doing at that time and were I could've done better. 12/10 will do it again! (and if nothing else, at least I have turtle now!)

    I tried out Mechanist just now with the build from MrMystic, and if you set your mech to autocast all his abilities and just autoattack with a sword you do 27,5k dps. And without thinking, just slamming your forehead into your keyboard, that dps goes up to 37k. You dont need to track kits or weaponswaps or anything, just keep the skills on your bar on cd, and you have a shift signet as a panic button whenever you need it.

    • @phandrel
      @phandrel  Před měsícem +2

      Mech (and cVirt) are definitely on my list to check out. Right now, I'm not too eager to swap out Guardians, though, as they provide 4x Aegis per minute on demand for the whole squad, if they all overlap casts. Otherwise, 12/minute, but we're not aiming for perfect timing.

  • @crow_buddy
    @crow_buddy Před měsícem +2

    Nice, that's a really clever concept. Assuming someone had Mechanist unlocked, you could do something similar with Power/Power Alac Mechanist. Hammer, Rifle, Sword/Pistol variations have low intensity options - maybe not one button auto-attack like Guardian, but easy enough for a new player to pick it up. Plus Mech has ranged options and good utilities.

    • @phandrel
      @phandrel  Před měsícem +1

      Agreed! I actually play a very low intensity variant of mech (both dps and alacrity) quite often.
      I intend to add builds to the list going forward, so people can pick and choose.

    Truth be told its not that bad as many make it out to be
    I have not started raiding for ages but startet 2 years ago and now i have 3 full leggy armor sets, ring and still play it with my static - even the CMs (quite regularly)
    I feared the elitists back then but its really not so hard to join. You only need to be a bit brave 😊
    Many groups search for know mech on non-CM fights anyway so be aware of a few things before you join…
    - at least research the encounter beforehand so you know the mechanics on a basic level. That is what know mech means. Go in blind and wipe the group a few times and you will be kicked first sure ^^
    - Try to stay away from special roles if you join at the start
    - beware especially about the insta-death stuff that wipes the group
    - stick to wing 1-4 first. Those are easy. 5-7 in NM too but check the mechanics because those could be tricky
    - play an easy class you are comfy with. There is so much going on that you are happy to be aware of your surroundings and not worry too much about your rotations. Nonetheless get to know your rotation a bit so you are at least decent with it. That may sound a bit harsh but believe me - if all people do 5k dps the encounter is really hard for everyone and you will fail which takes the fun out of it. So dont worry too much - go to the golem and test it a bit. If you are like 25k on the golem you are golden because in real fights 15k is enough to clear it
    And as presented here there are really easy autoattack builds that can do that. So do a bit of research and get raiding!
    - strikes are really easy - just join via the lfg 😊
    - stay away from CMs; contrary to what i said above CMs (fractals, raids, strikes) are definitely harder and require you to play properly. They are called challenge modes for a reason so dont grieve yourself with those until you are able to handle normal mode 😊

    • @phandrel
      @phandrel  Před měsícem +1

      A lot of my own (early) experience was similar to yours:).
      I did focus on learning special roles ASAP, though, as those were tickets into pugs when I had low kp.
      Definitely agree on learning the easy builds first. I personally prefer that approach to sending people over to a build site where they're bombarded with options.

    Holy shit, Guardian just autoattacking does almost as much dps as pre-nerf rifle mechanist. That's very nice. Also nice how you can expand the build in steps, like equipping a greatsword instead of a hammer and just pressing all the greatsword abilities on cooldown. If I had to guess, that would already break the 34k dps mark.

    • @phandrel
      @phandrel  Před měsícem +1

    There is another lazy DPS for newbies to focus on learning mechanics rather than looking at their skill bar too much: the Pistol Akimbo Deadeye. This one is 900-range rather than Core Guardian's melee. Put as much Power, Precision and Ferocity on your gears and Signets as possible, Ctrl+RMB on your skill 3 to set that rather than Pistol 1 to auto attack. Rotation is F1, F2 every 20 seconds. After F2, your Deadeye will keep autoattacking with Pistol 3 without pressing another skill and deal 24k DPS in best case scenario. Your fingers and eyes are now free to react to AOEs and other fight mechanics.

    This sounds an absolutely marvellous idea!
    I have stayed away from the group content for a couple of years due to the toxic Try-Hard-ness of it all. If you can finish the encounter without entering keyboard smashing rage from too many wipes then, surely, that is good enough? Games are for fun, right?
    I do get the feeling that some folk believe that being good at a video game gives you some sort of status - no, it doesn't :D No one cares!
    Back in the day, I was something of a big wheel {:D} in the Gran Turismo environment - it was prior to the online gaming scene being as seamless as it is now. You had to buy some extra gear to stream your playing to and send the files off to the adjudicators for your run to be checked for compliance to the rules and so on. Anyhow, back then I was in the global top ten and was a recognised 'name' on the game forums, especially as a 'tuner' (similar to designing builds in GW2 but for modifying and setting up cars). Does anyone give a damn? No! :lol:
    Hence, my rather sniffy attitude to the elitist 'kick/mock the losers/noobs' vibe that arises all too often in online games.

      But yeah, I'm all for finding people with the same attitude and having fun together. If that's 10 people speedrunning, or 10 people going as chill as possible, doesn't matter. I just care about have 9 others with me with the same mindset.

      No law against doing it your way, mate :) Back in the old times of gaming we used to make things hard on purpose for just that reason - doing Doom with just the shotgun , that sort of thing. In LOTRO there was a portion of the player base that did what is called Naked Running - it's not as rude as it sounds, it just means using no armour and/or jewellery :)

    yeah but raids are still really annoying for people with limited play time... not only learning and practicing mechanics (which, to me are just torturous, fussy and annoying), but finding groups, waiting for groups to start, which eats away at your limited time... or when you do have a group being locked into content for multiple hours, not wanting to let people down, and then your family come along and say "Hey I need you for something, dad/husband". And, as an altoholic, I can't bring myself to focus and just 'get good' with one thing, I need to be able to flip around from prof to prof, spec to spec.
    Open world metas are the greatest endgame content for people like me. I can try out weird builds that are just fun not minmaxed, perfect builds that perform perfectly in perfect conditions, I can just go afk at random and not let anyone down, I can log on, find an active world event and just join in. Its a blast. Raiding is a chore.
