      @Muffinconsumer4 what proof do you need other than him pressing the keys and then the notes popping up on screen?

    • @burntspud7466
      @burntspud7466 Před rokem +5

      @Muffinconsumer4 just looking at the piano notes and the notes showing up on screen you can tell that it's not fake, so the proof that it's not fake is literally right there, people are just too lazy to check.

      @@burntspud7466 especially since people have for years been making music by drawing into the piano roll and then tweaking it to sound good - this is just that but in reverse.

    Knowing how influenced your style is from classical pianists, it would be interesting to do a midi art spelling out their names, in the style of their music. Not sure if that's possible but would be very impressive!

    I would love to see more covers and original music! The midi art has been a fascinating challenge and very well executed, but it's just not something to listen to, if that makes sense. :) The videos where you make short semi-improvised sound bytes (like the one where you test all the pedals) have been some of my favourite videos in the past, would love to hear more wild synth patches and beautiful chord progressions

    I just discovered your channel yesterday (July 11, 2022). My kids and I are loving your MIDI art videos. And also just your playing in general. My son plays and composes his own music. Jordan Rudess is a big inspiration as is any classical composer. So we loved your electronic Chopin video. Amazing playing.
    We also love the channel Rousseau, the pianist who uses a visualizer along with classical pieces played live.
    We were just discussing how it's hard to believe such great musicians exist and we never hear about them except through something like the MIDI art videos. By the way my son's music can be found at Niall Stallman Composer on CZcams. He actually has written about 110 pieces but only recorded a few. Keep up the inspiring creations.

    Love all your content!! It's inspiring to see all the forms of creativity that emerge from the level of playing ability you've achieved, and how it continues to grow/evolve.
    My favorite would have to be "Finger Twisters", that's the one that got me hooked! Def would be cool to see more stuff like that, maybe even a crossover episode - MIDI Art Twisters. Guess that could be interpreted in different ways, so here's a few possible interpretations off the top of my head (along with some more general ideas):
    • draw 2 different images at the same time (on separate tracks maybe ?)
    • draw 3 images at the same time (1 main image visible during performance, but secretly it becomes 2 additional images. via having 2 MIDI clips selected at the same time so it merges all the notes together in the piano roll, and then when you view the individual clips, they also are independent images of their own)
    • multi-voice multi-color images (rather than predefining note colors, using multiple tracks with different voices & colors and viewing MIDI clips of all of the tracks at the same time)
    • exquisite corpse - take 3 subscriber ideas and stitch them into one entity
    • draw a GIF (draw the same image several times, each with some variation to make an animation when stitched together with the others)
    • optical illusion - draw an image that is also a different image when the orientation is changed
    Note: some implementations are based on Ableton's features. dunno which of those also work in Cubase.

    • @GLASYS
      @GLASYS  Před rokem +1

      Thanks for those awesome ideas! Some great stuff in there. Yeah unfortunately the multi-track multi-color thing doesn’t work in the Cubase piano roll, I’ve tried it. Might have to consider Ableton or another DAW. The animation idea has been suggested several times and it’s something I’d like to try. Doing several drawings simultaneously- not sure how possible that is unless I use two computers- but definitely worth experimenting with! 😀🙏

I will henceforth assume that you did this as a birthday 🎂 present for me!🎉 Thanks for being amazing, and apparently amazingly coincidental. PLEASE keep doing the midi art. I was wondering if you had ever considered doing multiple bars on a repeat, with different instruments adding new colors to the previous measure? Though it would possibly be less melodic, you could absolutely create some amazing pixel art on the fly, with color and shading growing with each loop.

    I've really enjoyed your content and music over the years and personally would like to see more songs, performances, little compositions and etudes, etc. Those were always so spectacular and inspirational, to see and hear the personal craft of your music. The MIDI art is another facet of your creativity, one that is undoubtedly getting traction in the social media landscape way more quickly and efficiently. Now I'm not here to be ~that guy~ that says it's "less meaningful and interesting" and "most viewers are ignorant, impatient, and uninvolved" and "social media now is so dumbed down by populist forces". I think ~that guy~ is often misguided and wrong and I don't feel that way at all about your live MIDI art. It's insane and so creative!
    I love these videos, and I love and miss your older videos, and if it were up to me I'd get both with more of the latter. However I'm just one casual viewer among many, I get your content for free, and I affirm your agency as a content creator and as a person. I'd be happy if you did what you wanted to do, what you enjoyed, and what rewarded your efforts satisfactorily.
    So whatever you choose moving forward, I will support you!

Write messages with clever arranging the notes/chords of an existing song?

  • @disconnectica
    @disconnectica Před rokem

    I just heard you on the DIY Musician podcast and am now discovering MIDI art for the first time. Amazing! It's amazing that the pieces don't just sound like a mess, either harmonically or when it comes to timing. As for new ideas (which may not be new since this is literally the first time I've ever seen MIDI art!) I'm geometry-minded. So how about changing the left-to-right paradigm? Going right-to-left would basically create the same picture in reverse, but you could try drawing top to bottom or bottom to top. Or how about from the centre going both left and right to always get a symmetrical image? Or a square growing from the centre out to the edge. In that case as pitch goes up you'd work around the edge of the square, so the highest and lowest note would wrap around to meet somewhere on the square. Or a growing circle. Or going left-t-right but using a curve rather than a line. Or, could velocity be used somehow? It could be used instead of pitch, or maybe both could be used together and then you don't need the moving line at all as you already have control over 2 dimensions!

    • @GLASYS
      @GLASYS  Před rokem +1

      Hey thanks so much for the kind words! Those are all really interesting ideas, unfortunately I don’t have software that can do that. Traditionally, piano rolls record from left to right.
      I have done one where I rotated the screen 90 degrees, it’s the “Sans - Undertale” vid 😀

    • @disconnectica
      @disconnectica Před rokem

      @@GLASYS ha, I've been making music for a few years and didn't even occur to me that you were just using the piano roll from a DAW. I was thinking hey where can I find that MIDI art software?! I'm tempted to write some dedicated MIDI art software. Would you be interested? Another idea for you: put a mirror next to the screen and you could make it look like it was spreading on both directions at once to make a symmetrical picture.

    • @GLASYS
      @GLASYS  Před rokem +1

      @@disconnectica I'd definitely be interested in new software for MIDI art if that's something you're interested in creating! I think it would be awesome to visualize MIDI in new and unique ways. One idea that always comes up is doing it in 3D - but that would be very complicated. :)

    • @disconnectica
      @disconnectica Před rokem

      @@GLASYS can you expand on the 3D idea? Likfe building a pile of 3D bricks, or tombstones maybe going back from the viewer. I've done a lot of 3D graphics programming (and even some 4D!). I've also been writing software to do effects for my music videos. See Treat and Somewhere Always on my channel for examples (though these don't use 3D effects).

    • @GLASYS
      @GLASYS  Před rokem +1

      @@disconnectica Well that's the thing, I believe it would be too difficult and finicky to create 3D midi art in realtime. The 3rd axis would have to be mapped to velocity, which would be way too hard to control precisely (down to the exact value) while playing. This is why I haven't really pursued the idea, but if you can think of a good way to implement it I'm definitely interested in trying.
      Thanks!
