For dashcams get the best you can afford and extra definition on the video will allow you to identify a licence plate number.

Nice review, with useful feedback from the driving instructor (sorry didn't catch your name). I think the Binatone looks ok for the price, and it would have allowed me to capture footage on an idiot tailgating on the M62 in torrential rain the other day. Worth a punt for £79.99.

As has been pointed out, many people use mid priced dashcams, in fact there are many out there that offer the same features as the nextbase for less than half the price

the other big difference not covered if the fact the Nextbase will record at 60fps (at a lower then 4k res) so techincally will be better at capturing detail at faster speeds. So you would have more chance of capturing a number plate of a car going fast. Dont know if the cheap on will do that but I suspect not. But any Dash cam is better then no dash cam when trying to argue with insurance companies

These comparisons of the cheapest brand vs the most expensive brand are rather pointless because you're ignoring all the mid-priced brands which is what most people buy.

Binatone has always been a rubbish brand. It's so bad the name is telling you to throw it away (bin a tone). I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole.
