- This is a tabletop review of the SPRINGFIELD ARMORY XDM ELITE COMPACT 10MM. In this video we will discuss the history and development of the firearm, and provide side by side comparison with other popular models to establish scale and help visualize what it would be like carry this based on familiar platforms. We will outline all of the features, and how these features may or may not be important to you based on your personal needs. Range performance will also be discussed along with different tested methods of carry and how comfortable it is to carry on a regular basis. Last, we will provide an overall opinion of how this firearm stacks up for concealed carry purposes. Thanks for watching!
Just bought mine. I love it. Major difference from my Glock 20. Much more comfortable carrying the Springfield xdm elite compact 10mm. I’m extremely happy. I have no regrets👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
Great review! This gun might be might best purchase this entire year when it comes to firearms. It handles so well and the recoil was very tame with all ammo types I practiced with. The trigger is OUTSTANDING for a factory item, very reliable and predictable follow-up shots. It has supplanted my P365 XL as my everyday carry. Highly recommended!!
Purchased this a few days ago and got it out to the range yesterday. This is one BADASS pistol. Doesn't get much better for self defense imo. But..... That magwell has to go. I left it on and where my pinky lands, boy does it get beat up. This is a 10mm in compact form so yeah, it's a monster but after I removed the magwell it made all the difference. Didn't have that little edge of it digging in to my pinky. Hopefully sw, fn, Walther, canik all take notice and come out with something similar. We need more compact 10mm!
I agree, The magwell bothered me a lot. I have extended magazines on the way so it should feel more like FN 509 or similar.
@@TheConcealedCarryChannel So the extended mags fit flush with the grip? Honestly I picked up the 9mm variant yesterday in my local gun store and the only thing keeping me from buying this was that stupid magwell, and the fact I couldn't get my pinky to fit on the damn grip
@@TheConcealedCarryChannel What size are the extended mags you ordered?
@@TheConcealedCarryChannel, Here’s a crono speed test with this gun. 1412 fps not bad for 10mm self defense ammo. czcams.com/video/a8lCn2onguI/video.html

Mag well comes off quick and easy 3/32nds punch …
I agree it had to go 👍🏿
Good job on the review....I like that you pretty much covered just about anything one would be curious about...I was thinking about picking one up and you answered alot of questions I've had been thinking about...great job!
Have the 4.5 but this is on my shopping list,,,,thanks good review
My favorite pistol I own! Its a GREAT shooting pistol I'm just amazed by it. I see it winning pistol of the year in 2022, it's about time the 10mm takes it, the last few years they have been getting a LOT more popular
Very well done sir. Informative and right too the point. Thanks
Best table top review of seen on this pistol yet. BTW have one on order 🤠
Much appreciated. Enjoy it and thanks for watching!
I have one of these and love it. It shoots way better than you would expect for a 10mm in this size. Waiting on concealed holster still. Carry it with the 11 round mag and have a normal 15 rd XD as backup mag. Wicked conceal pistol. Definitely ditch the magwell flare.
Just purchased one on Gunbroker. I am looking forward to shooting it. Thanks for the review!
Thanks for watching! Enjoy your purchase!
I recently purchased one and couldn't be more satisfied. I also took the flared magwell and now my grip is even more solid then before. Great video. 👍
Is 10 mm it's a long round how reliable is 10 mm not the gun the round I think folks should spend there money on training like when u get a jam or both but how fast can u clear a jam

Another well done and informative review. I’m very curious about this pistol. New sub. Cheers!
Absolutely love mine!! Fits in my Shadow Systems MR918 Elite holster with a Trijicon optic. But I have the Dragonfly on my Springfield and it Fits perfectly. Olight Baldr s light works great and doesn't extend past the barrel. Light requires a different holster though.
Mine just rolled in .. I ordered without the optic .. ordered 2 15 rd mags with sleeves
And removing mag well today
Also ordered a OWB kydex holster
I have only ran a couple of mags through it
absolutely great trigger .. for those that like lighter triggers.. Im a revolver guy so im easy to please ….but this pistol out of the box is the best factory trigger I have seen as of yet
And yes .. this is going to be my primary carry pistol.. they say 357mag greatest fight stopper .. and I feel its the 10mm with Underwood ammo that is
Thank you sir for sharing
Great review, thank you.
I just bought this yesterday... I went ahead and ordered 2 of the 15 round mags and the holster from Springfield website
I have two hybrid holsters for my XDM Elite 3.8 Compact 9mm. One from StealthGear and one from Crossbreed. The XDM Elite 3.8 Compact 10mm without the optic slides easily into both.
Just picked mine up, can’t wait to get it to the range! Love the 10mm! I got the one without the optic, got the 15rd mag on order! Much smaller than my G20.
Where’d you order the mag(s) from?
@@killerinst1ncz308 I ordered it from Springfield
Good size comparison 👌 👍 👏
Vey informative review, well done. Purchased mine w/o the Hex, but have the plate for the Vortex coming (which I have on my FN 509T & Kimber Ageis 1911). I also have the 4.5 XD-M in 10mm, which led me to discover the round. However, I found the 4.5 snappier than the compact Elite. Still, enjoyed it very much while putting 100 rounds through it last Sunday Gunday. Having this powerful caliber in a compact caused me to scratch a 5th Gen Glock 30 off my list. Oh right. There’s no 5th Gen Glock 30.
I have both 10mms too love this 3.8 its my new baby
Can’t wait for the 45acp version of this pistol to come around.., hopefully soon. Excellent review and thank you for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
I love the 10mm, I owned the original XD about 18 years ago in .45 but this compact 3.8 is such a beauty I garantee you it will be your new favorite pistol you own! But after I bought the 10mm I just thought going to a .45 was pointless. The 10mm can do so much more, it can shoot 40 S&W out of it and videos of guys shooting this pistol flawlessly even know it would be an emergency situation, holds more, more penetration. The only thing about the .45 I do like would be to have subsonic and a silencer. Either way .45 in this pistol is by far better then any Glock in this size.
So you can get less capacity and like 700 fps out of that little barrel? .45 is ancient outdated tech
Just picked one up for my hiking gun here in east Tennessee and west north Carolina. Light and easy to carry and can take down anything here 2 legged or 4 legged predators . I'm a Glock guy but the fact you can shoot hardcast out of this outta the box made me pick it over the 29.
Got a 15 round magazine and now grip is perfect
Why do folks say they are not a fan of the grip safety? Does it make you sound more like a pro to say that? No one has ever said they have a problem with grip safeties on 1911's
I just dont see the big deal because you have to grip the gun to shoot it so whats the issues?
I'm sure it's all about personal preference. I have many firearms (including 1911s) with grip safeties and it does not bother me.
Get a Wright Leather Works custom OWB holsters for it $108 OTD in about 4-6 weeks delivered to the house. Fortunately, I had one made for my XDM Elite 45acp 3.8" about 2 years ago and it is an exact fit for the 10mm.
I love and own this already use it as my edc with the 15 round mag.
I just got one of these. This is going to be a game changer for me. Whenever I go hiking I carry my 44 magnum on my chest but I don’t always know when I am going to be outdoors sometimes I go spur of the moment and All I have on my is my 9mm then I am under prepared for a bear. This can be my carry gun everyday and then if I end up hiking without much notice I am a lot better prepared for a bear
do you have a chest holster for the 10mm what you would recommend?
@@mikeward2922 I carry this in a galco fanny pack holster it makes going from hiking to the city a breeze. In the front zipper part I carry a spare mag so I can rotate between one mag full of bear ammo and one full of hollow point depending on my surroundings.
I have huge hands so I removed the magwell and the sa extended mags with sleeves and now it's like a full size grip and still easy to carry
I’m already putting OT like crazy at my job just to buy this lol…
You and me both man, I hope I get you get yours.
@@Humanflesh1988 i got blessed and got promoted now making 2k a week….

Same here
I totally understand I want this gun so bad
I love mine, been carrying it for 3 weeks now.
Had mine a week now, shot again today lol this pistol is just fricking AMAZING and accurate! I swapped the red out for the green. I have the 4.5 in 10mm too but she's going to be sitting in the safe, even when I go into the woods unfortunately.....Im still going to keep it, not sure for how long tho, I usually move on and Sig P320 X10 is announcing their 10mm on May 15th, but I have extra mags too ughhh ill just keep the 4.5 for a while they don't make them anymore and it's been an awesome pistol but she's going to collect some dust, this 3.8 is the best built pistol I have had my hands on and I have went through a LOT of guns lol
@@miketyson8933 I agree for sure. I have another XDM Elite 4.5" full size 9mm. 20 rounds flush and then I have a couple 22 round mags. Love it as well but it's for home defense and road trips. All of my Springfields are accurate and I pick up the sights so quick. I like their sights better than any factory sights out of the box. No competition. I know Sigs new 10mm is coming out but I prob won't grab one. I have the 10mm I want and have a P320 XCompact 9mm already.
@@whatsup24_7 Yea you have it covered, I will wait too. I always let guys get the first run of a pistol, but for this Elite 3.8 OSP in 10mm I already knew what I would be getting, sitting here watching the aligator hunting with this 10mm beast sitting here, I shoot water jugs and these hot rounds make the water hit me 20 feet away lol some of these rounds seem like they would cut a man in half lol jk put a hotrible mean hole tho. How do you like your X Carry?
@@miketyson8933 yeah 10mm is a beast. I don't have the X Carry I have the X Compact. I love it, it's very accurate and fits so good in my hand.
Got it, and torx screws on the filler plate stripped. Now it's at the gun smith...felt good in the hand while I had it though lol
Purchased 3 15 round mags from Springfield I think for $105. Well worth it.
I'm gonna check one out
Agreed! Hell with the optic, 99% of the time the incident is gonna happen arms length away and in the dark. U will only have time to point and pull he trigger.
Exactly my thought. I am contemplating removing the optics and selling it. There is no way I could make use of it in a tense, stressful, close range emergency.
Several differences... Trigger guard thickness and trigger position and the list goes on between the XDm and the Glock
Two different guns... Entirely and my preference is what this video is about... The XDm 10mm 👍😎🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Will this fire hardcast ammo with no issues?
Awesome 👌
Trigger breaks. I bought it for hiking in Bear country. I loved shooting it, until I saw a few videos of how the trigger just stops working.
The "Turkey's opinion" channel posted a video with the trigger breaking in the middle of shooting.
I don't want to take any chances with a Bear attack, as unlikely as it might be.
I sold it & got an FN 510.
I have one that is on its' way now to my GS I can't wait yeah mines is without the red dot.
Lol I got one without the optic also, it looks cheesy.
i just pop off the magwell, its a backcountry gun for Hunting season.
It handles great when you take off the Magwell. Once you do that, it feels like a normal full grip.
If you’re trying to “conceal”, why the thing on top? Just makes it bigger bulkier just a bigger footprint. Not what you want when trying to conceal.
If you are carrying this, wouldn’t you put the smaller Optic on it (Wasp in this case)? I’d use the larger optic for home defense or open carry.
Been looking for a 45 XD 4.5inc barrel no luck yet.
I have this same pistol in 9mm and the only issue is the flared magwell I wish it was a bit longer cause it hurts your pinky finger after a few rounds I removed the magwell and it's better wish I could keep the flared magwell
I removed my magwell to allow the extended mag to fit properly.
The more 10mm options the better 👍
I’m still crossing fingers, hoping it one day arrives on the California roster of approved handguns
My complaint about the Firearms industry is the lack of variety for optics. No, I don't mean the variety of optics, I mean the variety for optics.
A lot of manufacturers have begun offering optics-ready handguns. But every single one of those has the shield footprint. There are so many different small optics to go on handguns, but when it comes to the shield footprint there's maybe four or five? None of which I'm interested in. Yeah sure, I could use a plate, but that's going to have the optic up higher and suddenly I have to change out the site also. Either that, or I have to spend even more money for a third-party slide or a third-party slide work.
Does that short barrel negate the advantage of 10mm? I would love to see some chrono testing with that barrel length in both 10mm and 40 S&W.
Crono test with this firearm. czcams.com/video/a8lCn2onguI/video.html I’ll trust it. I’m in the city. For the “animals” I’ll come in contact with, this will do just fine.
Nope lol I have the 4.5 and shot them today side by side, 28 FPS difference and this 3.8 was opening up JHP all the way top to bottom of the round. Its right at that 4 inch mark which is where the speed is there, for the size my 4.5 10mm will be collecting dust lol
@@rubenpicon9541 tell you what it's better then a 9mm, even if you live in rural America or outlying suburbs where black bears are showing up in people's yards. And it's something that's practical enough for EDC. Immediately puts you in better position for humans and wildlife. Now if you barely venture from a large city or urban area a 9mm is perfect.
Especially 10-15 rounds of 10mm it could be the difference maker of walking away unharmed or minor injuries vs getting mauled to death
So to be clear... you have to turn on the red dot initially to use..no auto on when gun is drawn, correct?
Correct. You turn on the sight and select your brightness level. It will remain on until you turn it off, or after 16 hours. The battery is supposed to last 3 years in real-life conditions, per Hex Optics.
@@TheConcealedCarryChannel thank you for replying. Great Channel 🤠👍

I put Springfield cowitness sights on it. Much better. Also removed magwell.
Please tell me where you got those sights. I didn’t see them on the Springfield site.

The xdm elite compact is the best 10mm and 9mm going in this size, I’ve got both and the 45 is next on my list I love these guns there awesome
Lose the magwell and make the grip a 12 round flush. Then it'd be perfect. That said I need to get my SA 10mm 4.5 a little brother in the next 6 mos
Got this gun I love it. But I wish I could fined a good iwb holster for it
Crossbreed holsters Supertuck.
I carry mine in an Urban Carry IWB holster. Hardly ever know it's there, and it's really a heavier concealed carry firearm.
Like mine but heavy, trigger similar to p320 much better than glock
👍🏾
Some one please tell me why they put a grip safety on this handgun?
Because they can.
Makes it safer to holster. Don't engage it while holstering and trigger can't pull if it gets snagged on shirt or keys etc. Striker pistols need a thumb safety or grip safety like every other gun except a glock .not counting revolvers
Lack of good 10 mm choices yes . But even worse is Big lack of 10 mm ammo . None around here. Haven't seen any in a long time . I will get one when I start seeing 10 mm ammo .
10mm ammo all over the place!!! 10mm has really picked up the last couple years! I have about 1500 rounds and about 3000 of 9mm
To be honest with you I only want it for woods carry and town carry!!
My complaint is putting iron sights that can't be used as backups. How about putting suppressor sized sights so you can actually use Irons when that cheap Hex optic stops working.Take lessons from S&W and FN, Springfield it's not that hard
@What's Up? Except it comes with an optic on it.You do realize that's how Springfield markets this gun.Suppressor sights with optic, normal sights with no optic. Its common sense
Why? Why put a red dot when you want major honking sights in the way, My Sig P365 XL with Romeo has a rear sight built in and nothing is in the way, I turned the dot off and shot and put anything I wanted to hit in the middle of the glass and Im hitting anything in a fist size area. I never understood why guys want a red dot with sights in the way, maybe its the guys with bad eyes IDK
@@miketyson8933 that's the boomer fudd type that wants to be overprepared for every little scenario just so they can brag about it at the range and on forums
I’d personally like to see this gun in other calibers. 45 would be really nice.
Agreed.
@What's Up? ya but 10mm is costly and definitely packs way more punch. If your carrying.
@What's Up? so you must be a big caliber type of guy. Don’t get me wrong I like bigger calibers but 10mm seems overkill for self defense.
Great Video. Think it'll take a bear with hardcast?
Definitely will. 10mm is a thumper round
@ShimmerySound thanks already a big fan of @Alaskan Ballistics
Seeing as how literally every species of North American animal has been killed with a .22, I'd have to say yes.
I was annoyed Glock never made a G19 sized 10mm.

Wish it had a longer barrel. 4.5 inch would be awesome.
They already have a 4.5 and 5.25 in XDM full size
Do those have the elite trigger also?
@@DR676767 No, but I have the 4.5 use to be my backcountry pistol. It's Rock Solid.
Chrono and gel test from the smaller 29 show that these compact 10s don’t suffer much.
Just take the magwell off. Easy.
I love the gun but the finish is horrible and wears off very fast then rust.
That hex dragonfly is trash, looks so bulky and gross. So glad I got mine without it. The Holosun 407/507k is perfect with it. Make sure you get the C&H Precision XD-M mounting adapter plate with it.
I think 10mm is over hyped just like 9mm. I still think 40 is the sweet spot. Carried one for 10 plus years.
I have always been a fan of .40, but I do like having my 10mm 1911 with me when I am in the woods. Thanks for watching!

The XDs have the best grips. Stop it
This is very FAT compact gun. I have one. Limited holster selection, heavy and think firearm. Not the easiest to carry. Surprisingly I find myself carrying my full size Glock 45 (9mm) and my Beretta PX4 (40 S&W) more often. The larger handgun grips are harder to conceal, but also easier to draw.
I love this gun but it's very far from being my favorite to carry.
Pretty cool but not really interested with 10mm ammo prices and scarcity. Too painful to the wallet to shoot.
Hex sucks but gun is great
SIG X-TEN IS THE SHIZER
Eww hellkittin
Springfield, you need to make an important change to this pistol!!! You need to make the grip longer so that it fits the hand better, properly!!!Your current design is faulty and you need to realize that!!! If owners need to remove a part from your design to avoid injury and fit the hand better, it is a bad design!!!
Additionally, the grip is slick! IMO the person that designed this gun and the QC person that accepted this design had their heads up their asses, because it is a terrible design!!! I do love the size of the 3.8" weapon, but the handle/grip suck!!!
It was intended to be that way, why is it a bad design? There are many solutions to extend the grip.
Buyers shouldn't have to make changes to the gun as soon as they get it home because it doesn't work for them as designed!!! And that appears to be the rule, not the exception!!!
I hate how some of their guns say “GrIP ZoNE” lol
That has always bothered me a little. lol
Glock 29 all day everyday
Also a great choice. I like mine as well.

GRIP SAFETY!....NO THANKS
With that short barrel i dont think its any better than a 40 u need da 4.5 barrel tbh
