  • Psychiatric rehabilitation process (PRP)
    Introduction:
    • PRP is a range of social, educational, occupational & behavioural interventions to help people with mental and emotional issues.
    • It helps manage symptoms and activities of daily life, including housing, employment transportation, & a host of other services.
    • PRP utilizes all the available community resources, leading to recovery, full community integration, and improved Quality of life.
    • These diagnoses that qualify for PRP are:
    • Major depressive disorder severe/psychotic symptoms
    • Bipolar disorders and its types
    • Schizophrenia
    • Schizophreniform disorder
    • Schizoaffective disorder
    • Other psychotic disorders
    • Delusional disorder
    • Borderline personality disorder
    • Any child who is enrolled in mental health clinic can receive PRP
    Goals of PRP:
    • Receiving high-quality & cost-effective services
    • Recovery from mental illness
    • Decrease hospital admissions.
    • Improve Quality of life & social functioning.
    • Successful participation & reintegration into the community.
    • Promote independence, Personal growth & Empowerment.
    • Improve vocational functioning and stress management.

    A typical day of PRPs includes :
    • Helping a person with a medical or psychiatric appointment.
    • Training/coaching the client activities of daily living such as:
    o Getting around at home
    o Hygiene/Grooming,
    o Dressing
    o Planning & Cooking meals
    o Housekeeping,
    o Exercise & nutrition needs
    • Training/coaching in community living skills such as:
    o Managing finances
    o Paying bills,
    o Transportation
    o Social & interpersonal skills
    o Finding jobs & helping with the job application.
    o Shopping for groceries
    o going the DSS, housing authority etc
    • Helping clients remember, keep, take to appointments & complete paperwork.
    • Providing support to someone in the hospital and participating in the hospital discharge process.
