K1 Speed Mokena 2024 Challenge GP - April 7th

- All three sessions of the April 2024 Challenge GP race at Mokena IL. Starting grid determined by two rounds of qualifying, with the same drivers per qualifying heat randomly assigned karts. The quicker of your two fastest qualifying laps determines your place on the grid for the final race. Both qualifying sessions were 12 laps, and the final race was 14 laps.
Still a bit of rust with adjusting to these karts in the first qualifier, and had an up-and-down session overall. Great second qualifier to nearly get pole, then an awful first lap of the race to drop multiple places, then nearly getting all of them back in the race.

Never been to this track, looks pretty slick, especially in the hairpins. Some pretty good passing opportunities (take note Buffalo Grove). Great recovery drive!

I think the newer kart models (compared to BufGrove) help here too. There's a surprising difference in laptimes between diving/defending and sticking to the racing line, but passing a good defensive driver is still tough unless you're multiple tenths per lap quicker.
Great job in your qualifying session despite you were just couple thousandths of a second short for the pole position. Has anyone in your GP hit in the 20s yet? What is the current all-time track record at Mokena?

Thanks Eric! Things are getting settled down and tuned in since this location was bought out at the start of the year, so this month had the fastest times in the 2024 GP thus far.
IIRC from 2023 Accelerate league racing (on this track, with these newer models of karts), the fastest laptime I've seen is a 20.7. My personal best is a 20.958
Hey, how do you do these "official" races? Ive been here multiple times but its only a open race, where you just arrive and drive.
K1 Speed has league races once a month, with adults 18+ on the first Sunday of every month and junior/teen league nights two nights later.
