    Advice for new adjusters. Find a contractor that your company trusts and go to their jobs and learn them. We had a vendor program when I started so I went to large losses that weren’t assigned to me and followed the contractor around and took notes. I also hung out with an experienced IA and learned the insurance part…

    Most of the contractors I’ve dealt with have been fine. They usually will just keep asking and asking to see what they can get. As an adjuster you just have to be confident and not scared to say no.

      Hey I’m 16 years old a sophomore in high school. I’m trying to study what I can before taking my license test for the state of NYC when i turn 18.
      Can I ask, what material did you use to help you learn about the jobs requirements?

      @@otsutsukii835 nyc is much different then the southern states. It’s a more difficult test, and in my opinion, I don’t believe i’ll ever feel the need to adjust there so I haven’t obtained a license there. Adjusterpro.com likely offers training for your exam. I personally prefer in-person adjuster training, but adjusterpro is pretty good.

    They hate adjuster because we have to uphold the integrity of the insurance carrier which means we’re on the front lines to tell contractors that they can’t upcharge unless they want “drink the blood” of their own ocustomer tbh…They’re not drinking no claims adjuster blood because we’re just the messenger informed for contractors.

    I love it. Whenever an insured asks me for my professional opinion on something. I reply.. Ask an expert. Because profess means to make a declaration or statement especially if it's NOT true. Guys remember insurance is NOT meant to make you whole. Whole meaning 100%. Nationwide learned that the hard way when it came to flood and their commercials.

      Insurance is meant to MAKE YOU WHOLE FOR WHAT YOU HAD. Don’t forget to account for depreciation. If the insured had a 6yo roof and gets a new one that’s not depreciated, it’s considered an upgrade because the condition of the roof will be better than the pre-loss condition.

    Other than creating an elevation from a grouping folder, Is the only way you can add line items to an elevation is if you do it graphically???
    Also, how do you creat complex elevations in xactimate? For instance say the front elevation has like 3 different faces that are all different shapes rather than being one perfect square, how would you sketch that? would you just create 3 different elevation sketches and name them all front elevation????

    • @AdjusterTV

      Generally, different geometric shapes on elevations are dictated by the roof line. So if you create your roof with all the offsets and everything, and drop the walls from that then you should get something you can work with.
      I never used Sketch for elevations because it was just easier to do it on paper and also I've never worked for a carrier that required Sketch's on elevations.
      That being said, Xactware is working on more a more intuitive Sketch, including elevations. Might be a year or two, though:)

    Here’s some advice from a contractor, to other contractors: when you meet the adjuster, be respectful, understand they’ve had all day dealing with contractors who were trying to intimidate them into paying for a claim. Give them space. Only be there to show them damage so they don’t have to deal with supplements later on. Let them know that’s why you’re there. Not to intimidate, but to help out to make the whole thing go more smoothly. Chances are without that pressure, they’ll be able to better differentiate storm damage from mechanical damage and they’re more likely to make the proper call. Intimidation does nothing but blind the adjuster.

    • @ridgemont4il

      Mechanical damage is bullshit. Open Peril policies cover everything that is excluded and Mechanical damage is a word.

    • @AdjusterTV
      @AdjusterTV  Před 3 lety +2

      I'm not sure I understand: open peril covers everything that's not explicitly excluded. And it depends on context: if somebody creates mechanical damage (aka "damage by a person") then it's either fraud or vandalism. Vandalism is covered, fraud isn't.
      Is that what you mean?

    • @justinfincher2385
      @justinfincher2385 Před 3 lety +1

      @@AdjusterTV I’m not quite sure he’s aware that blistering is considered mechanical damage. There’s a stark difference between blistering and a storm created impact. Blistering is caused by improper ventilation or a manufacturer’s defect. Meaning it’s technically man made. Storm damage is an act of god. All acts of god are covered. Unless he’s referring to foot traffic, which of course would also be man made, ie mechanical. However I have gotten stone coated steel roofs bought because an adjuster didn’t know how to walk on it and damaged panels with foot traffic, which I recorded. That fell under a vandalism claim.

    Obviously you do not want to miss any damage but sometimes people are human and it does not matter if you catch everything a supplement request will be submitted. I have only had to do it a few times but I just straight up tell the contractor to let me do my job and when I am done we can discuss concerns. Most contractors are not this way but you do get the occasional.

    On hail claims with contractors, and PA’s, I have found that the vast majority have not been properly trained to correctly identify hail damage. They start pointing out every imperfection stating that it is hail damage. I’m thinking to myself, either this person is dishonest, or they have not been properly trained to correctly identify recent hail.

    • @AdjusterTV
      @AdjusterTV  Před 2 lety +1

      In fairness to those folks, many times they will encounter inexperienced adjusters who don't know what hail damage is and who will pay for those imperfections. So that's where they start.

    It's very simple, the adjuster wants to get the NI back to pre-loss condition, while the contractor is there to sell the NI on upgrades. From my initial contact with NI, I always make it a subtle point of making them aware that my goal is to restore them back to pre-loss not to rebuild your house. With that established ahead, I don't ever feel pressured by contractors........Mitigation companies on the other hand..........😊😂😂
