    It gets no better than this. EC connects emotionally with his guitar better than any other player (IMHO). It's on another level here...these are some of the best electric guitar licks ever recorded. Timing, tone, phrasing, laying his soul out there for all to see...exorcising his demons with his axe...ABSOLUTE MASTER!!!

He ain't playing for the sake of it here, this is EC in his darkest period, thinking about suicide regularly (so he says), living from the bottle, really struggling with life...he's searching for answers here, telling the world his pain.

Now I'm.65, love all sorts of music, lotta ppl I love and admire in many genres. I have seen Eric right in front of him, 7 times. Met him outside Buddy Guy's Legends, said my thank you Eric , whispeted in his ear, and got a nice big hug. This was around 2000. My husband loved him as much. It wsd a sincere admiration of him, not some silly lady fan crap. Look at what he's done

Can play w/ a Symphony, sing w/Pavarotti for a Pope, do any genre of music, play acoustic or electric, cross all borders from Tulsa to the Delta, go back in time or forward. And that Voice! The man doesn't have to move, except to play, but his voice is Gorgeous, and seriously underrated. This track was so awesome, and ten years b4 he even considered not being an addict. This man has an unmatched gift, and keeps on giving. I even loved the Christmas album 2018, that I shared w/ my 3 yr old grandson, Levi, who just turned 3. This kid was singing old Christmas tunes that r part of all of us. I also share having lost a son w/ Eric. Am also recovered from demons. Loss off , excellent too , but Clapton's vibrato with that wrist floating and no palm on the neck is straight SURGERY FROM A SKILLED SPECIALIST IN VIBRATO THAT NEVER WORBLES , EVERYONE ELSES VIBRATO IS SUBJECT To SLIGHT CHANGE OF PACE THOROUOUT THE ACTUAL NOTE DISTANCE , NOT ERICS ,
      STEVE VAIS CRAZY CIRCULAR VIBRATO AND THAT TOO , VERY VERY PRECISE , BUT I STILL PREFER ERICS .....
      PPL SAY HE GOT WORSE , NO FKN WAYYYYY THATS TRUE , HES SUCH A GREAT GUITARIST EVEN TODAY.... HIS VIABRATO MAKES HIM ABLE TO COMPETE W THE YOUNG BLOODS

    There has been some debate on when exactly this recording took place. Regardless, anyone who believes the
    'myth" that Clapton was "laid back" in the 70Ss or 80s or whenever he was supposed to be, is proven dead wrong by the absolutely brilliant Clapton performances from those eras that have been brought to light via the great bootlegs that people have provided to CZcams. This recording is just one great example. I think people got the wrong impression due to the relaxed albums he released in the 70s. But those who saw him live know the truth.

But you couldn't know he was going to create such a legacy. Either way, I envy that you got to experience it, and to have those memories with you. Be well, mate.

    As great as Eric was in the 60's, 70's, and 80's even, I really do think his best decade of the 6 decades was 2010-2020. I think he got much better at guitar, a lot better, and that's incredible. I was watching some performances he did with the light blue, pastel blue, guitar, like I shot the sheriff, it was incredible. I watch and listen to all his stuff all 6 decades. Does anyone else on here think he is better now than he ever was?

    • @JustAnotherBlader
      @JustAnotherBlader Před 3 lety +4

      I would say as far as guitar ability, I’d actually say it started around the late 80s when he started to play a lot more aggressively and louder like he did when he was younger. And throughout the 90s and early 2000s, he had some real fire in his belly and played some epic career defining gigs. Stylistically he played much different than his Cream days. But then I’d say his age started to catch up by about 2010 though, though he’s still fantastic.

      @@JustAnotherBladerI completely agree with you. He started struggling when he had hand issues in 2013 but some stuff from 2023 is very impressive considering he is nearly 80. His peak was definitely 24 Nights and the From The Cradle tour and he maintained it right through until the early 2010s.
      I saw him at the Albert Hall in 09 and he was on fire the whole night. As someone who grew up and became a guitar player because of him in that building on 24 Nights it was a bit overwhelming and I'm a cold bastard so it's saying something lol.

    There are not many times we are privileged to hear Clapton play like that, those sessions are where he earned the 'Clapton is God' caption, I have listened to him for years and only one solo comes close to this, and that was his solo with Cream on crossroads, but this blows that away, he was very very soulful that night his fingers would have bled he was into it so much. Every note was attacked with fire and passion, amazing, thanks for posting!

      @Talkin Bout Nawlins First off, if a misspell is your first comeback your allready doomed for dissaster.Clapton is that guy whois been lighting up the stage for 55 years, that guy who won 6 grammies for an acoustic live album, you know that guy who is in the rock and roll hall of fame three times.I could continue the list but you cant even spell new orleans correct so it would just becomes pointless lmfao.And i didn't call him mr rock n lol, you did.No one person owns music, it continues to evolved over time.Clapton's one of the most humble musicians out there.He makes clear which (artists) and genres (blues) moved him.That's like saying the first guy who picked up the guitar was the only guy who should have and everybody was copying afterwards.If you don't like him then don't listen, but yet you still had to come her to be negative.I don't think i need to prove anymore points with you.Not sure what the teenybopper thing is about, the discussion was about music, don't sidetrack.Point blank, none of those guitarist had the full arsenal that clapton did, which is why he still sells out shows nearing 60 years.Knock it off :) And who cares how old i am, facts are facts

    Although I personally think Eric really peaked in his playing in the early and mid 90's (only due to what happens after a particular age and not a lack of skill or passion), I LOVE this era of his live performances. He may have been into dirtier tones and not exactly as clean in his approach as other times in his playing, but the soul that he is putting into the music seems to be endless. Eric played fairly consistently over such a long period of time, one can almost try to interpret his true emotions listening to his phrasing and such when drawing upon live performances from different time periods. I dread the day..... They all seem to be dropping left and right. I hope the lifestyle he pivoted to for the last third of his life provides for a healthy, happy, and peaceful last bit.. Thank you Eric!
