    Incredible video! I was looking at the CZUR scanner, but this video makes me think that a DIY option is the best approach. Thanks for sharing. :D

    Thank you so much! Your clear and concise exposition of a most elegant design surely conceals a great deal of thought, effort, and a fair bit of trial and error.
    Many thanks, sir.

    Carl, you need to multiply the dimensions of the book (in inches) by 300 (dots per inch), that's supposing you can zoom the image so that the page fits exactly, and you find the dimensions in pixels. Multiply them and that's the amounts of pixels that the camera ought to have. For example 8"x300 dpi = 2400 and 11"x300 = 3300; 2400x3300 = 7'920'000 or a 8 megapixels camera. Indicatively, because of course the page proportions could be different than the image proportions.

      The expense of 16MP is not daunting in itself. It's the expense of such a camera with the required features. Without getting into DSLRs, I'm limited to 14MP (2 Canon PowerShot G10s -- used, of course!) because I want to use PSRemote with a PC. As my scanner is being built to accommodate up to 15" x 22" I am limited to ~200dpi at the largest size and more than 300dpi at 9" x 14" and smaller sizes. Thank you both for this vital info!

    I am SOOO excited about building one to meet my needs! Despite a host of issues (residual, from a stroke), including one hand to work with, numbers confusion and impaired logic, I actually believe I can do this! What a marvelous alternative to a $6k device, such as an Atiz Book Scanner Pro.
    THANK YOU...for posting these videos!!

      I also want to build this. Were you happy with the end result?

    • @bobriopel6391
      @bobriopel6391 Před rokem

      @@JustinDeane222 Yes. My project was copying historical cemetery records (1858-present), bound into 500-page 8.5" x 14" ledgers (cremations, burials, lot diagrams, deeds, correspondence), spanning more than 40 volumes. I used Canon cameras. The challenges were brittle pages, VERY tight inside margins (in some cases, NO inside margin), and the fact that I only have one usable hand!

    • @bobriopel6391
      @bobriopel6391 Před rokem +1

      I used legacy cameras, as only those had all features that I needed, with compatibility with the 2-page copying
      software.

    • @JustinDeane222
      @JustinDeane222 Před rokem +1

      @@bobriopel6391 I'm glad to hear you succeeded with that. I have textbooks that I need to digitise and the inside margins are very narrow. canon cameras would be my choice too and I suppose for excellent clarity I will need at least 24 mp and good optical zoom

    You're not really scanning, you are photographing, correct? You would now have to take photo and then convert using OCR software correct?

    Yes Sakura jp I use a single infra-red controller for taking pictures on two cameras. It takes two pictures simultaneously. You need to have the same model of camera to do this.
