Reserving is okay if you are going to use them within 20 minutes. Going to eat and coming back is okay but, leaving for an hour or more is not.

I am on team Jared. As a frequent cruiser, I am tired of seeing prime location empty chairs covered with books etc. for a complete day. Especially on port days when all of a sudden after a day in port, the chairs become occupied by those who have been away from the ship for most of the day. This is selfish and unacceptable! There should definitely be a set time limit. There are many video cameras in the pool area. Hogged chairs should be monitored and appropriate action like the removal and safe storage of all goods should not only be implemented, but enforced.
There are too many entitled people in the world. There is no place for them on cruise ships.

I mostly agree with Jared. I don’t like it when people reserve a chair at 7am and don’t come back until 10 or 11. But I also think it is ok to leave ur stuff on a chair while u go get food

Team Jared. My family always puts our stuff on one or two chairs and take it when we leave the pool area. We have struggled finding even one chair to use as a family since the cruise industry has gone back to full capacity. We even ran into an issue on our last cruise where the only thing on a chair was a balled up towel from the cruise line. My son asked a crew member if he could use the chair and they cleared the towel and said they hadn’t seen anyone in the chair for at least an hour. About 30 minutes later some guy walks up and said he was sitting there. My son stood his ground and told him that the crew cleared it since it had been empty for so long. He was mad, but walked away. I definitely agree that if you aren’t there you shouldn’t have a chair and unless you are tanning your family can share. If all you are going to do is tan then use a chair on the sun deck. Sorry everyone, but the chair hogs need to be stopped. I do love the idea of cubbies. I would totally use that for my stuff!

Team Jared. It's not right for people to reserve chairs then walk away for who knows how long, to have them available for their convenience, taking that comfort away from someone who comes to the area needing a chair. People pay a lot for a cruise. Everyone deserves as great an experience as possible. #TeamJared

If you're using the pool area, cool, keep your stuff on your chair. If you get there at 6am to reserve a chair without any plans to go to the pool until the afternoon, that's an issue.
If you've left to run back to your room for something, no problem.
If you've gone for lunch or to go have a nap, free up the chair for someone who is actually at the pool!

I get up early and SIT in my chair, I do grab one next to mine for my partner who sleeps in later. I am in my chair all day unless I walk over to put my feet in the pool. If I go to the buffet I usually bring the plate back to the pool. I have witnessed people doing just what you described. They put a towel and magazine on the chair and walk away. They will wonder back hours later. I would be happy to reserve a chair if they offered. I have gotten on a ship and tried to get into the sanctuary so that I could reserve with no avail. Team Jared. It's not fair that early risers can monopolize chairs for entire day. The late risers also paid to have a poolside experience. Cruise lines should find a way to limit chair usage to say...3-4 hours max (if there's a "line" of folks waiting). Perhaps some sort of reservation system.

  • @markuyar1

I'm mostly with Jared on this one. But it's a tough one! We were just on the Apex in Scandinavia, and it wasn't busy enough at any point for all the chairs to be taken, so it was fine. However, when cruising gets more & more back to normal, I agree that you should have to be in the area at all times. Sorry to say Jordan, but it's just greedy taking a chair for the whole day, even if you wake up at the crack of dawn :P.
I feel like if you're swimming/at the pool bar,/on the deck then it's fine that you have your things on the chair. However, if you're physically not on the pool deck, then no chair for you.
I will say, I haven't had so much of a problem with this on cruises, but All-Inclusives are notorious for this and it drove me nuts. No one needs to be at the pool/beach the ENTIRE day.

Good debate! The only reason I set an early alarm is to see arrival into port haha! Saving a chair at any time other than when you are actively using one (restroom, grab drink/snack, pool dip ok) is plain inconsiderate and should be better monitored by staff. It is quite obvious when someone quietly places several towels at 6am and walks away and it should be bye-bye towels (it would take 1 monitor to oversee each morning). I like the deposits on towels some lines have as I think it discourages leaving one and risk having to pay to recieve another. Sure you can leave personal items, but many don't want to risk those stolen. Anyway #TeamJared

Would be nice if there were enough pool chairs for all. That said...Took our 79-year-old Dad on a cruise. He could walk, but not far without his walker. We got him a chair which he enjoyed for a few hours. We then walked with him to let his feet/legs into the pool a bit. When we came back someone had (not too nicely) tossed his things, walker included) aside and put their stuff on it, but were nowhere to be seen. Hubby nicely removed their items from the pool chair and hung them over the railing. When they came back, they started yelling at Dad that he had no right to move their stuff and were trying to pull him up and out of the chair. OMG, As I rounded the bar area I saw this happening. That woman lost a bit of hair while I was pulling her off my Dad. Of course, Security ended up in the mix. When the people sitting in chairs around my Dad told them what the so-called woman had been trying to pull Dad out of the chair all the while cursing like a trucker, Security realized I was trying to defend Dad and removed the *itch and her man friend from the area. So while agreeing it's a pain in the arse when all the chairs are "reserved", in Dad's case seeing a walker laid over the chair - anybody in their right mind should have reasoned out that a person with a handicap was in need of that chair. Maybe the ships should add some handicapped chairs for those in need.

When you're going to be gone an extended time, give that chair up. If you are going to get up at 7:00 am to save a chair, you need to have your butt in the pool at 7:00 am.

I think it's fine to reserve the chairs.
Just be sure to use the chairs! If you plan to be there for the day, it's essential to have seats together.
If you take up chairs and don't use them, or use them for an hour mid afternoon, that is what I have a problem with. Then you shouldn't of saved a seat.

I agree with Jared don't reserve the chairs if you aren't using them. It's just as bad as when I drop my kids off at the grocery store to sit in a prime parking spot for when I get off work.

I’m usually on deck before my husband. So I’ll keep one beside me until he gets there. But when we leave for lunch they both are up for grabs. But we are on the suite deck, so chairs are limited. I don’t expect to have “ the chairs “ for the day! However I have seen chairs “reserved” and I’ve never seen anyone seated all day!

The cubby thing is an awesome idea. I really never need an actual lounge chair because I am always chasing my kids around the pool deck, rarely do i get a chance to relax. I would love to be able to throw our bag in a cubby instead of taking up a lounger.

We go to water parks often and will “claim” one chair for our whole family of five for the day. It’s also a check in point if anyone gets lost or needs anything. As for cruising we will again use one chair and will only claim it for that particular swim/Play session

#TeamJared... again. That being said - I feel like the only seat savers that are wrong are the ones who come down, throw stuff on half a dozen chairs in prime spots right next to the pool and then leave the area for hours on end without ever actually using the chairs or the pool. My personal solution to this is just not to use the main pool on sea days. I can usually find a decent spot at one of the smaller pools if the ship has them

My family and I avoid the pool deck on sea days because of not being able to find a chair. We started using the adult only areas, but they can get crowded too. So we go to the pool at port days when we stay on the ship. I believe that both of you have good points, but if no one hogged the chairs on a cruise ship, you wouldn’t be talking about it! Be kind and share. If you are done, then take your stuff and leave so someone else can use it. Then if you decide to return later, look for another place to sit. That’s what we have done.

No worries for a short time BUT some reserve 1 in the sun or 1 in the shade. Some reserve for when they get back from an excursion!
I hate it when people leave their used towel when they leave. You have to guess if they have gone and then remove their used towel!

Reserving a pool chair is fine if, for example:
You drop your stuff on the chair, go get some food or a drink or hit the head, and come right back.
You leave the chair to get in the pool for a bit, and come right back to the chair. If you spend most of your time in the pool, don’t reserve a chair.
You reserve a chair for yourself and maybe a significant other, but not your whole family reunion.
#Team neither one of you. You both have some good points.

Unless you're bringing a personal chair from home, you don't have a "right" to a chair - just because you choose to get up at the crack of dawn to get one and leave personal items on it until you're ready to use it. 🤨 #teamjared

Team Jared! I dont agree with reserving chairs. I dont lounge by the pool for long periods of time but I would like a chair for 30 minutes to an hour to watch events or get a little sun. I wake early and certainly could reserve a chair for the full day but I dont feel that is the right thing to do knowing I will not be sitting in it for the majority of the day.

    • @geminiots2121
      @geminiots2121 Před rokem +1

That's reasonable. I'm an early riser naturally and I would want to sit by the pool when it's quiet with no one around and sip my coffee and such.
I will take my first cruise in March 2023 and after hearing all of this. I will go swimming when they first allow people too. I can't be out there in the sun all day with a crowd of people. I can hit the thermal spa afterwards.

  • @jakewoelfel2686
    @jakewoelfel2686 Před rokem

I agree somewhat with both. I am one that will get up and get a chair, then run to breakfast but always back within 30 minutes. I never am gone longer than that. What really annoys me is when we get up early to go find a shady spot on an island, etc and then a couple hours later people come and grab chairs to sit under our umbrella. I don't like people being that close. Why didn't they come early? This happened on our last Disney cruise--we were one of the first at Serenity bay and a couple hours later this couple pulled up a couple loungers and came up under our umbrella. Ugh!

Team Jared. If you are not in the area your save is limiting availability for those who are. If you allow the natural flow.....your available chair will show up when you are ready......just as it did for those who came before or after. Not everyone is ever at any one place all at the same time. That is the joy of cruise.

#TeamJared 100000%. I didn’t use the pool on our recent Alaskan Cruise. But I saw the chair hogs, and wasn’t impressed. I would totally get a crew member to remove belongings if those chairs were vacant for more than 30 minutes. Being considerate and thoughtful of others should be a given in public spaces.

Team Jared! 😊Reserving a chair should not be allowed unless you paid for the reservation. The pool chairs are free for everyone and everyone should have a turn each day to use the chairs and sit by the pool. I’m sailing independence of the seas in December for my birthday cruise. I paid and reserved a day bed at perfect day at cocco cay for the entire day. That way my family and I can Enjoy the reservation all day. Rules should be followed so everyone base a turn.

Glad I don't hang at the pool! If I did...it's reasonable to keep your chair while you're in the pool, grabbing a drink, using the restroom, getting snacks you'll eat by pool... it's not okay to save it while you go elsewhere to eat, play bingo, take a nap in your cabin... basically 15-20 minutes away from your chair is reasonable IMO
