Saltaire Village is near Bradford in West Yorkshire, England. It is named after Sir Titus Salt who built a textile mill, known as Salts Mill and this village on the River Aire. Enjoyed the video mate as always, just touching on the holes in the walls of the houses I was always told it was cleaning the soles of your shoes.
I live close to saltaire and have seen the small arched holes in the walls many now bricked up. These are common in the area and are for the milkman to leave the daily milk bottle delivery. This protects the bottles from being knocked over by passers by but also from the birds pecking the tops and drinking the cream off the top of the milk. No semi-skimmed in those days!!
Interesting video, many thanks. The holes in the walls were for the milkman to place milk bottles & collect empties. The 'River Aire' that you showed was actually the Leeds to Liverpool canal. The river Aire is further down past the mill...I worked there in the mid 60's and knew the place very well. I used to maintain the fire alarms/time clock system and punch clocks and Tannoy PA for Dictograph Telephones. We had hundreds of clocks, speakers and alarms. Some parts of the mill (spinning and warp sheds etc) were so noisy that you couldn't hear the fire alarms or the tannoy, even with it's huge horn-loaded speakers strung from the rafters.... The fire alarm system had an automatic call system to the Shipley Fire Brigade - it was a form of industrial record player that was triggered by the alarm - it dialled the fire station and played the recording that stated the mill was on fire...

Many thanks Pauline. As you could tell, we aren't very clued up on Titus Salt and Saltaire, so we just went with the flow when we visited. I love the place though. It's like walking back in time.
Enjoyed the video cheers. Apart from the couple of drinking places you showed, just a bit further up the road is Saltaire Brewery that's quite a big business and has been opened in an old tram shed. I'm not sure that Titus would approve of that.. Good beer though!
I never knew about the brewery! Thanks for letting me know about that. We saw the hospital, but the footage I took wasn't good enough due to the many cars whizzing past all the time 🤣 Thanks for watching 😃
Loved this video, as I am kind of a local! Many a time I go for a few drinks around that area. Sir Titus Salt is a bit of a legend. I never knew he had a dislike for pubs etc. In Bradford they once called a Wetherspoons Sir Titus Salt too! Saltaire has a charm about it. beautiful architecture. I wonder if those holes in the walls of each home were for milk, other supplies. Appreciate this video mate!

Missing from most Maps of the UK's Cities.
Missing from most Tourism websites.
Ignored by the Mainstream Media...when it comes to the good stories at least.
Even when the media do actually mention *Bradford,* it'll get a small mention, while the cities which they incorrectly assume are bigger, get almost entire articles to themselves.
Plus when they actually visit *Bradford,* I often find them claiming to be *"near Bradford,"* or *"just outside Bradford,"* even when they're less than 2 to 3 miles from *Bradford City Centre.*
Not a very nice place anymore.
The small holes at the front door might have been boot scrapers.
I've just googled odd and even house numbers. Mid 19th century, the numbers changed because of the postal system. It made it easier for the postmen to go up one side and down the other instead of crossing the road for each house.

Hi Paul, he is actually buried in the mausoleum at Saltaire Congregational Church, something I forgot to mention in the video. Apparently, over 100,000 people lined the streets of Bradford to watch as his funeral cortege made its way to Saltaire.

Hi thanks for watching. The logo was to show a kind-of church image but using our name. The upside down cross as aimed at a day when something horrific occured, some would say the work of the devil perhaps. A few did comment at the time it looked like a church so I'm glad it worked. The round circle is actually from a podcast sound wave we did. The image is that of our voices talking.

Hi Grace. Saltaire is a tremendous place to visit. As you can tell from the video, my knowledge isn't brilliant though with the story of Titus Salt but one I sincerely want to delve into at some point.
