I think you meant phlox as opposed to flax. Very different plants!

Thank you for sharing your beautiful garden! Deer damage has been the worst ever here in my garden. They have eaten almost everything. Yes, even those deer resistant plants. I am trying not to be discouraged. Fortunately, my vegetable garden is fenced in with an electric fence so it is safe for now. ( I found bear scat outside the garden this week, so let's hope he or she does not go through the fence!) Your videos are calming and encouraging, and I appreciate them.🦋🦋🦋

Your July garden is looking beautiful, the pollinator garden is such a great addition I can see now why you decided to create the space and remove the grass even when it did raise a few eyebrows. I feel your pain with the bunny and deer damage, one year they ignore a particular plant so I then plant more of them then the following year it’s their favourite , can’t win on the wildlife front. My favourite are your Annabelle’s, simply stunning, they certainly are impressive to look at in big drifts.

I have a lot of different types of Shasta Daisy's in my front yard. The blooms smell really bad 😢 never knew this. Thank you for sharing your beautiful garden. 🙌💚🌿

I've also have had issues with Love-in-the Mist germinating. But, after reading Lisa Mason Zeigler's book "Vegetables Love Flowers", I will try again next year as they are cool weather annuals needing to be planted in early spring. Our dear Garden Moxie gal recommended the books and is a testament it works from the look of her Nigella. Wishing you success!

I love Lisa Mason Ziegler's work. She has so many great tips.
Just an idea. Paint your plant cage black. I have so many cages and I don’t even notice them since painting. Love your garden 💚🇦🇺

A great garden tour. I'm impressed that you grew the begonias from seed. I would never have thought of that. The blue birdbath is beautiful.
Thank you. I tried growing the begonias to try something new this season. Wow are they slow growing. The seed pack says to start them 14-16 weeks before the last frost day. I probably could have started them sooner based on my results. But what fun to see them actually bloom.
Lovely video as always! I've a black lace elderberry with tons of deer chewing on it but eventually it got tall enough, 12 - 15 ft and it's stunning when it blooms. It's kept as a vase shap e because the deer still eat the lowest growth but this allows plenty of space for flowers underneath. Just something to consider if you don't want to move it.
Thank you and thanks for sharing your experience with the elderberry. I keep hoping the deer will eventually leave it alone. I like your suggestion of leaving it to grow tall. You've convinced me to leave it another season at least.
Wonderful!! I’m so inspired by your garden design ideas. I love your happy blue birdbath with the stone for your mom, and great idea to move the viburnum and replace with a golden maple. I’d also throw flamethrower redbud (or similar) out there, mine is a golden yellow right now with a lovely semi-weeping habit
Agree with everything you said! I also just planted last fall the Flamethrower Redbud and It IS spectacular in color! And the Forest Pansy.
@@dustyflats3832 I also have forest pansy and ruby falls (LOVE!), I think if I see a nice Carolina sweetheart at the nursery I’ll have to plant that one too 😂
Thanks so much. Based on these recommendations here, I am going to have to look up that flame thrower redbud. I am glad I put that blue birdbath there because it brings back happy memories every time I look at it.

Have you tried making your own deer repellent? I have pretty good success with that.

Lol, that fence is how my whole yard looks!! Now the possum are digging under my garden fence!😡. We caught him. It’s crazy as we’ve never had that problem before and with Way too much Rain you would think the animals would have enough to eat. Deer live to taste test. Had a buck snorting just yards away while I was in the garden recently.
The Mosquitoes are Overwhelming in WI!! There is no way you could film on an overcast day here unless you fog the yard.
Seeing a few J beetles a day and surprised there are not more-yet. I’m noticing a lot less plant pest pressure, but it’s the first time we had rust on hollyhocks. I guess I will have to get resistant varieties going forward. I trimmed off most leaves and finally had a dry day to spray copper as the bee balm are starting to mildew as well. Now they look like fireworks popping above the other flowers😂.
I Love penstemon!! Last year was calendula that was my fav and this year penstemon. Wish it flowered longer. I’m eager to see other new to me flowers-I just had nigella start to bloom, Gomphrena the Neon purple are REALLY bright, I think it’s a Peace rose that was also neon on these gray days.
Two flowers I don’t understand are Blackeyed Susan Vine and Ice Plant. Neither are growing well and I tried several locations. I think too much rain and the vine is invasive in the south so it’s probably lacking heat and sun. It’s too bad as when I started the Ice plant I was really liking the sparkly foliage.
It’s to the point I may have to shelter some plants from the rain. 33” fell since March and annual avg is 37”. I hope we can get a veg harvest and thankful for sandy soil.
The non stop begonias were so fun last year, but I had only one survive our experimental root cellar. Maybe they all were alive and I didn’t start them correctly. I thought they were corms and all I could find was a small root ball. One popped up so we have that to go with an orphaned impatien.
A lime green Japanese maple would look great! A tree I wish would grow here is a dogwood that the Impatient gardener has, but it’s only to Z6 and I’m 5-Maybe I could push it😅.
So I can imagine trying to tend the flowers inside boxwood would be similar to me with fences. Was curious how you set the pavers also-is it a gravel base or fabric?

Thank you and thanks for sharing your Wisconsin experiences. It sounds like you have a wonderful garden. The seasons when we get more rain than normal can be tough for plant fungus and pests. Our pavers forming the paths in the backyard had 3-4 inches of soil removed, that was then tapped down to firm it up and then we put in leveling sand which is almost like a crushed cement base. It created a very firm foundation for the pavers. But the patio blocks that I placed in front of the woodland border are simply placed onto the ground after I leveled it and tapped it down. It is an experiment since I did not have the budget that season for leveling sand. They are on their 3rd season. So far, so good. P.S. I am adding calendula to my wish list now. Thanks for that suggestion.
@@GardenMoxie update 😅a strawflower is blooming and the tiny blackeyed susan vine popped out a flower at 4” tall😂. Yes, the calendula take frost way better than marigolds and they are such a bright spot. Easy to collect seed or let them seed themselves. And the ice plant-I don’t understand it.
Lovely garden. It’s so strange to me how regional deer preferences seem to be 😅 they don’t touch our Japanese maples, but they seem to devour almost everything else 🫠
Thank you. I wish my deer didn't like Japanese maples. I didn't think they would touch them and foolishly didn't do any research on it before planting them. Ugh!

I am in the middle of reading her book Making a Garden. I bought it from Thrift Books online. They are a used book seller. I have purchased quite a few books from them with good service. Her Making a Garden book is absolutely wonderful. She tells the story of how her garden was made and she writes so well.

Thanks so much. That little birdbath is bringing back some happy memories too. So far, no birds yet. Everyone is still using the one in between the hornbeam.
Looks great! Everything's so green! In So. Cal it's 84 degrees today and sunny, though I'm close enough to the coast not to have triple digits. The lawn is crispy, but that's how we roll out here. Water is too $$$, and after 6 years of drought, we're used to it. I keep a lot of plants (roses, berries, tomatoes, grapes, herbs) in part shade, and deep watered. A neighbor has pretty blue hydrangeas up against the front of their house, which faces east. The leaves can get burned by the afternoon sun. I once had a white hydrangea called "Shooting Stars". I loved it. I hope to get another one someday when I have a good, safe spot for it. Your white ones are fabulous! White Alyssum self-seeds for me here with no trouble. I just crumble the dried plants over an area where I want them, and they'll pop up. Deer are beautiful, but what a pain to keep them off your plants. I've had skunks and raccoons dig up containers looking for grubs. We had a bit of a war, but I put a tomato cage over each of the two young rose bushes, then stacked dried rosemary branches over the soil between it and the rim of the container. A friend asked where I'd learned of that method; told her I made it up. I figured rosemary would mask the grub smell (and I'd just cut back mine) and the cage/prickly branches would make it more trouble than it was worth. I love that gardening can be the thing you do when you don't want to have to think, but also the perfect outlet for creativity, nervous energy, and the careful laying of plans. :)

Hello and thank you! I take care of the garden by myself. I did hire a couple gentlemen to remove the sod for the pollinator garden. Best money spent in a long time...ha ha. Gardening is like therapy for me.

Your pollinator garden really matured quickly! It looks great. I have bunnies eating my zinnias, coneflowers and even helenium. I've had to put chicken wire around them.
Thank you. It is a weird garden season this season with all the things that are getting eaten. I usually roll with it, but I was disappointed about the coneflowers because it left this big gaping hole in the middle of the border. Thank goodness there are buds that are surviving now. I think the deer were sampling the plants when they first came up and now decided they don't like the taste (at least that is what I am hoping for..ha ha).

How about a small electric fence around the Japanese maple you can just turn it on @ night ... on a timer maybe

Could you explain (and show pictures) , please, how do you support Hydr Annabelle? Because of the rain and the weight of the flowers, they flopped. I'm in zone 6, Romania (Europe)
Hello and thanks for watching. I had a support made for my Annabelle hydrangeas in my back garden. I don't have a photo. They were welded with round metal stock and they are a 3 foot diameter circle with a mesh pattern on top similar to peony supports. They are roughly 3 feet above ground level. They stay in the ground all year.
