Ironically Japan has weebs that like American culture, like saying random words in English so it sounds cool
Yeah there used to be a big trend where Japanese people would name their kids English words, there's a name for it but I forgor.
Famous example being Light from death note.
I’ve seen them called “westaboos”
They even have their own version of Americana. It's called Japanese Americana, it's where people dress like Spike from Cowboy Bepop.

As a Japanese person, this is quite accurate.
Toxic work culture.
Oppressive, paternalistic society where if you step outside of your lines for good or for bad you will be shamed into oblivion.
Earthquakes (you get used to them).
Ultimate conservatism plaguing the government.
Regional neglect and over-concentration of wealth in a few cities, leading to skyrocketing cost of living.
Declining birth rates, emptying countrysides, and high suicide rates all because the government refuses to actually address the issue (like their war crimes).
But hey, look here! Anime! Speedy, on-time trains! High tech toilets that will make your butt sparkle! Safety where police officers devolve to NPC's!
Take your pick; I'll take time to decide mine.

Japanese people are very disciplined towards Tourist. When I visited Japan a while ago someone puked at the Asakusaba(Hope i spelled it right) metro and there were guards surrounding it so no one would step on it by mistake. It was very new to me and one thing that I noticed was people were on their phones even while walking it's probably b cuz of their bad working hours. And the experience at the Henn na hotel(The reception staff were Robots) cool experience

Japan would be a cool place to visit, and not as cool to live in
Let me give you a take on immigrant life in Japan:
Cons:
- Sometimes racism happens with housing. True.
- Sometimes some tech is so ahead and some so behind.
- Work culture can be toxic, as my wife has experienced.
Pros:
- If you like polite, considerate people, people here are incredibly friendly. Especially as you get out of Tokyo.
- Environment is generally clean, lots of nature, and transport is convenient.
- Don't talk about politics or sensitive topics, or simply don't care so much to just always randomly shove their opinions down your throat. Like, it's okay to like something without being criticized!
- Food is great. Not many complaints.
- Lots of little things. I bought a TV for mega cheap on JMTY the other day, and the couple literally carried it all the way to my place like 20 minutes away. And then they invited me to see their Taiko drum performance. I really like the people.
People need to stop idealizing Japan, but I'd encourage people to try living here for at least a few months to get a feel for day to day life. I actually prefer the day to day life over the tourism and fun places. It's kind of fun to just take a nice little walk over to a convenience store nearby to grab some late night snacks, or go to a local gym. Things that don't necessarily feel unique to Japan, but just feels quaint and peaceful. Bonus if you can find a good job or be self employed. Easier said than done, but this is my home. That's how I feel. And I feel welcomed.
you're native?
Sounds like Japan is just Switzerland but for poor people.
@@MGrey-qb5xz I'm not native as in I didn't grow up here but I do have family here and have lived here for a few years. So, foreigner with connections as my grandmother actually was born near where I live and I speak the language.
@@anonl5877 Not sure how you came to such a conclusion, but the standard of living is generally pretty decent for the average person. Depending on the area, average pay isn't super great though, so that's one reason people who do want to have families are less able to.

I live in Japan, I actually think #1 is not very accurate. Yeah there’s tons of elderly but I also think it’s a location thing. Being from Tokyo, I see mostly younger crowds here where as those who would live in places like the north or central Japan would more often be elderly.
It is an often overblown point. It's because Japan is the most aged currently, but in a decade or maybe less the focus will shift to South Korea and China due to their hockey stick like growth of the elderly, which will actually overtake Japan in the future, if current trends continue.
Cope
Yes
Also, the old folks are pretty chill and nice. Honestly easier to get along with than the neurotic, overworked youngsters...
It's the urbanisation, many younger generations gather to the urban cities like Tokyo, Osaka etc. In surburbs you find many elderlies, and recently in central Tokyo also have them like in Shinjuku, sugamo.
and more young workers can't afford to having more kids😅👶 I meant not only money, also enough time, energy etc
Sneako and Hasan are very good reasons, and not to mention how expensive Tokyo is, where most foreigners live because anywhere else would feel too rural and traditional and most foreigners wouldn't be able to last long. The government offered to pay residents a lot yen to leave Tokyo
Any foreigner who chooses to live in Tokyo is an idiot. Out in the country is where real Japan is, surrounded by mountains, nature and traditional Japanese houses. Plus, the rent is a LOT cheaper. I have a whole house, with a garden on a 100m2 plus property for less than half of a shoebox apartment where the toilet is in the hallway apartment in Tokyo.

in american, west means USA, europe and every other country considered "western" is not by americans. It's important to understand american because it can sometimes cause confusion when they say "the west is so obese" when in reality they are excluding everything but the USA in their terminology.
But Western Europe, Canada, Australia etc. also have high obesity rates. Not as high as America, but still higher than the global average.
@@meko98743 the big picture is lost on you,

@@unowno123 Sometimes when people refer to "the West", they're actually referring to... the West, but some Europeans who like to think of themselves as better and more refined like to pretend that many of the problems in "The West" are exclusive to America. And I say this as a European myself.

No-one still idolises Japan, right? Like, growing up in the 2000's, I would see that sort of attitude around online a lot, but I feel like it's died out. Then again, I was a lot more active in anime fandom circles back then, so maybe nothing much has changed for all I know.
I mean, don't get me wrong; Japan is on my list of places to go and all, but if there's one thing I learnt about the world, it's that no country is without it's deeply-rooted problems or skeletons in their closet.
There’s more people that criticize others for idolizing the nation than there are those that idolize it.
On any video discussing foreigners in Japan you’ll see “it’s a great place to visit, but not to live”. As if the only metric for standard of living is how well it matches up to America or EU nations. It disregards the idea that Japanese can live happy, fulfilling lives. Or alternatively that foreigners cannot lead happy lives in the country due to issues they themselves have never experienced and have only heard about through the nebulous grapevine.
There are downsides and caveats to the country. This is undoubtable, but that is true for *every nation on Earth* like you said. But much like the US, people discuss issues in Japan without ever having visited or lived in the country and therefore just talk out of their ass.
@@jerrell1169 Finally, a based take. Bashing Japan has always been more prevalent than idolizing it. Mostly also comes with a generous side of racism.
@@jerrell1169 Good take. I actually haven't seen a SINGLE video that is "idolizing" Japan. You know what there's plenty of? Videos explaining exactly all the things wrong with Japan. People who know nothing about Japan rushing to call it overrated. (There's a reason people like it, it's fantastically rich with scenery, food, and culture, it has more unesco world heritage sites than anywhere else on earth, etc)
Edit: my bad it's not UNESCO heritage sites that it had the most of. It's 11nth. However something traveller's will point out is that pretty much everything is some sort of regionally culturally protected thing (each city and province has dozens of unique dishes, sites, places, crafts, festivals etc) that rhe government protects)
I was confusing regular heritage sites with UNESCO ones.
Country with the most Unesco world heritage sites is Italy, followed by China, Germany, France, And Spain.
Japan is on 11th rank.
@Exorcst Plagh ah my bad I mist be confusing the UN preserved heritage sites vs the countries own preserved heritage sites. The joke is pretty much everything in Japan is protected as culturally significant hence why there is such rich and diverse culture readily available and promoted.
Likewise, people who don't know anything about it other than anime will say it's the domain of god. Why do people act like the majority is against japan? Most people idolize and fixate on it.
I've been there, my cousin lives and works there full-time, and it's just mid.
It's not bad, but it's not the heaven that these internet weebs chalk it up to be.
Pay is good, food is great, nice scenery and architecture, but otherwise it's just meh. It feels empty, living conditions are shit, paper thin walls in which the neighbours will scream at you if you make the slightest noise, and people are polite but almost never kind.
