    Nice ride! I'm a little surprised to see not one sheep on the road. I rode the Bonette three times, and every time I had to stop somewhere in the middle to let a herd pass. But then again, the traffic was much less dense. I did it with a BMW R1200RT, a KTM 1190 Adventure and a KTM 790 Adventure. That last ons was the most pleasant.

    what is your braking technique while tackling such corners at the mountains ? also, what do u suggest how one must play around with the throttle, gears and brakes in order to be safe yet enjoy around the corners ? and how do you tackle if u find any sand or gravel (something slippery) around the corner ? please share this information from your experience of riding as i can see you are pretty good around the corners. thanks in advance :-)

    • @MotoVibes
      @MotoVibes  Před 4 lety +2

      There are certainly different techniques to corner - typically I trail brake (staying on the brake after entering the corner with slow release until the apex of the turn) into the turn while downshifting 1-2 gears while I am on the brake (super easy with the quick shifter). I am in the right gear before I enter the turn. Brake is gradually released by the time I get to the apex and throttle is gradually increased as the bike leans up again and as I exit the corner.
      Normally the "safer" way (how you get taught in riding school or riding safety training) would be to complete braking and downshifting before entering - meaning entering the turn with the "right speed". You enter the turn on a little bit of throttle to the apex and then gradually increase the throttle past the apex.
      Btw - I am only using the front brake - the KTM has a combined ABS braking system - so add a little bit of rear brake plus you have the engine braking to slow down the rear wheel a bit.
      Trail braking has its place in road riding (is more common on the race track). Aside from the obvious of faster cornering (more pressure on the front, changing of bike's steering geometry, etc.) I find it to be safer for road riding as I am on the brakes to the point where I can usually see the exit of the turn - if I need to slow down more or react fast I am already on the brakes - if that happends to be dirt or gravel you need to reduce lean angel before applying the brakes otherwise you risk crashing (even with the cornering ABS of the KTM). To not get suprised by dirt on the road you need "scan" the surface as far as possible with your eyes and adjust you line accordingly while keeping your sight locked on the exit of the turn. Not sure how to better describe it ;-)
      Lots of text - if you would like to learn this I would recommend doing a training on the race track - it is a safe environment and the instructors can give you practical tips throughout the day. I hope this helps- cheers!

    • @MotoVibes
      @MotoVibes  Před 4 lety

      Honestly - I do not really keep track of fuel consumption but I can give you an estimate - on roads like this no less than 6 liters/100 km - between 6-7 liters/100 km I would say. Not too bad - the bike takes a lot of fuel on the race track or at high speeds on the Autobahn - you can get the consumption to more than 10 liters/ 100 km ;-)

      @MotoVibes  Před 4 lety +1

      Peter - I am happy to read about your touring plans in the summer. Like you already wrote it would be good to focus on either Italy/Switzerland or Switzerland/France. If I had to choose I would pick Italy/Switzerland and then do France/Switzerland another time - even though I am a huge fan of both regions the Italy/Switzerland will give you a higher density of great roads to travel and will give you a huge variety of scenery. If the start and endpoint of your journey is not the same you could do France, Italy, Switzerland and Austria in 7 days easily. Also, you could consider not to go camping - it would save time for setting up camp that you could use for riding - accomodation can be quite affordable in the Alps - also riding the roads is more enjoyable with a lighter bike and it is easier to spend every night at a different place which would allow you to cover more ground. It really depends how you like to travel - you could just go with 2-3 places to stay, do 2 countries and 300 km day trips and leave time to do some sightseeing. Or you are crazy like me and prebook every place, spend the night at a different place every night, go 450+km a day and ride 10-12 hours a day - with that kind of milage you could do the entire Alps in 7 days (and save the sightseeing for some other time 😂)
      Pass me an email if you would like to get some GPX data of my Alps trips - cheers

      @@peterjones246 Peter - check your inbox - I hope that will be useful to you. The data came straight out of Garmin Basecamp and includes all the rides, accomodation etc.
      Nothing wrong with taking your time. The day rides I planned for the August trip were between 380-420 km and a bit too long in hindsight. The hot weather and dehydration led to concentration loss at times - there were incidents were we both missed a turn and went into the gravel next to the road - not something that usually happends to me ;-) I may upload that video some day.

    great video , the only thing wrong with that road is that there are cars on it ..

    It may not be the actual highest road in Europe but it is the highest pass that the Tour de France peleton can ride across.

    Sehr schöner Clip. Das war meine Auffahrt 2018. Leider ist die Bildqualität nicht die Beste. Habe wenig Erfahrung mit der GoPro

      Vielen Dank! Kleiner Tipp - probiere mal die GoPro am Helm zu montieren. Diese Halterung ist sehr günstig und gut um das mal auszuprobieren
      amzn.to/36qVd14
      Du bekommst so deutlich mehr Ruhe in Deine Aufnahmen (selbst älteren GoPros ohne gut Bildstabilisierung) und die Perpektive rückt etwas weiter nach oben für einen realistischeren Onboard View.

    Ehrlich? Ich habs probiert, aber ich kann mir das nicht ansehen. Die Einblendungen nerven, das Bling...Blong nervt, das Motorengeräusch nervt, das (der?) Windschild (heißt das so?) nervt.
    Man kann das auch ruhiger haben, wenn man da mit dem Rennrad hoch fährt. Das Einzige, was dann nervt, sind Motorräder, die von hinten kommend knapp überholen. Sorry, zwei Welten und kaum gemeinsame Basis. Ja, ich habe auch den (alten) Einser Führerschein, aber ich kenne einige Leute, die - vom Motorrad kommend - mit dem Rennradfahren begonnen haben, und ihr Motorrad abgemeldet und verkauft haben, weil sie irgendwann merkten, dass sie es kaum noch benutzten...

      Ich kenne auch enige Leute die sich wieder stärker aufs Fahrrad konzentrieren oder halt beides machen. Es ist Platz genug für alle (wenn man sich den Platz lässt). Die Erfahrung solch eine Strecke mit reiner Muskelkraft hoch zu fahren ist bestimmt der Hammer. Ich ziehe meinen Hut vor solch einer Leistung. Mir fehlt da ein bisschen die Power ;-) Live and let live - cheers!

    Weil Leute wie Ihr konsequent jegliche Verkehrsregeln missachtet, werden immer mehr Straßen für Motorräder gesperrt werden. Das ist sehr schade.
    Alle, die Euch hier bejubeln und auch mal dort fahren wollen: Bitte mal kurz denken! Über 100 in 50er Bereichen - unglaublich leichtsinnig.
