Seems fitting to be releasing this video on what would have been Jimi Hendrix's 76th birthday!

Great job! The best part about his song is that itâs never been played the same twice. From guitar to lyrics, like riding a wave.
pretty sure no one knows the actual lyrics, including Eddie haha

Potato wave*
this is by far the best available tutorial for this song
Why thank you!
This is a genius of a solo. Hendrix would have been proud.
sticksman1979 some of his live versions are amazing too đđ€
What versions are amongst your favorites? Both solos and intros/outros.... I like the Argentina (Mike wearing a orange shirt) version a lot. @@LetsPlayAll
@@SharlsRS I donât have an absolute fave tbh, just like how he mixes it up live and rarely plays the same thing đ€đ
Terrific! Thanks for spending so much time figuring out this great song and teaching it to us.
You're welcome Tim!

Thanks Emrah! Glad you're enjoying the lessons buddy!
Your videos are very inspiring! Thank you for sharing your knowledge on how to play pearl jam songs! Will never get tired of watching these videos till my hands memorized your lessons. Ive been watching your videos since jan 2020 when I bought my first electric guitar.
Hey Bret, that's awesome thanks so much for the kind words and taking the time to write them, I really appreciate it! It's always lovely to hear that the videos are useful for people and stick with it mate, you're just embarking on a wonderful journey!

Thank you so much! A lot of time and work has obviously gone into it! Canât wait to try it
randidil1981 youâre welcome đ
Love it!
Loved the video. More than any other song, I'd say that Yellow Ledbetter taught me how to play guitar. I rarely pick up my instrument without playing at least a bit of it in a warmup. Eagerly awaiting your take on the ever evolving live versions!
Thanks mate. Ledbetter is just great isn't it. Mike definitely got me interested in Jimi and SRV more than i ever was before. His parts in Black are equally awesome imo!
So grateful with you dude!
Excellent
Love Pearl Jam love guitar . Great channel . Thanks
Subscribed! This is a very clear and concise tutorial.
Thanks very much! đ€đ
Your lessons are usually way ahead of my possibilities, but you are who best explains the tone, configuration and all the stuff. By now Iâm with more simple songs. I hope Iâll get here soon. Thankx
J P L ah thatâs kind of you to say, I appreciate it mate!
Wow. What a great lesson for beginners this is. I consider myself an intermediate player but even I got some clarity on some stuff going on in this tune as well. You broke everything down at slow but not too slow and STEADY pace im going to subscribe and see what other treasures I could find with this guy, thanks, from Philadelphia PA, brother. đ€đȘđŒ
Hey AJ thanks for the sub and really pleased you like this one! Loads more on here so have fun and thanks so much for the kind words :-)
Cheerios!! Thx for sharing!
Glad to see you're feeling better! I always thought it sounded like the 2nd position as well. I'll have to finish watching this video after work! >.
Dartheomus thanks man! I think so but live he does switch it up too. Mike wonât mind whichever we use đ Enjoy!

Beautiful tele.
Thanks! đ
Welcome and thanks for the super thanks mate!
This really helped me with a couple of moments and the solo! Can you consider a lesson for âInside Jobâ? Both the acoustic and electric parts are beautiful, I would love to have your help, itâs what I think of for my top 3-5 favorite song list!
Thanks a lot for great stuff .. Learning PJ songs was never easier :)
Thank you very much. I voted on this song.

You nailed this. Some of the little nuances, I was playing incorrectly. This video really helped.
you're welcome!
Excellent upload mate đđŒ something to put my teeth in next weekend đ
thanks mate - enjoy!
Thanks Matt! Would love a lesson for how Mike plays it live.
That was great playing and great teaching!!! I started playing guitar again after a 30 year break and it is people like you that are really helping excel my playing. I love your tele! What model is that?
todd knaster thanks Todd thatâs awesome and welcome aboard! Itâs a 96 ish American Telecaster Plus with a Nashville pickup configuration (fender lace sensors). Great little guitar đ€đ
Thanks for all your videos Could you do a video for Mike's solo on Mad season's slip away?
I've seen Mike play this a few times, and he plays it different every time. I don't know if you know this but he does a Chrons and Colitis benefit every year at The Showbox in Seattle. He has a UFO cover band called Flight To Mars. I used to work there before we moved, that's how I met him. They haven't done it since the pandemic, but if they do and you ever want to take a trip to Seattle that would be the time to go.
Hey Matt, yea that would be cool to see Mike there, I was in Seattle last November, fantastic place but thanks for the heads up!
Awesome tutorial thanks! Maybe you could cover the live Yellow Ledbetter version from the Live at Madison Square Garden DVD. Have always loved the outro. That, and the outro solo to Black on the same DVD, are the reasons I picked up electric guitar.
Ian Pirrie need to figure out how best to handle the specific live version requests cos I get a few of those. Stay tuned! đ€đ
you play it the best of anyone ive seen play this song. it actually sounds exact. great job.
ah thanks Paul that's very kind of you! i need to do a cover of this soon!
Your videos are great, and this is a fantastic tune. What do you use for writing the tab?
Thanks Marc, appreciate it. I use Guitar Pro (mobile app version) at the moment. That way i can tab whilst on the tube to work :-)
â€â€â€â€â€đ€
Great lesson man. Thank you very much!
For some reason the 5-5-5 (E-B-E) at 21:26 always sounds like a higher note than the previous 12-12-12. Maybe it's just me
Yeeeew.
I was waiting for u to sing it was that good
haha i'm a terrible singer. maybe i'll put up a cover version with my mate Santi who sings in Pearl Jamm. He's got a rather fine voice :-)
@@LetsPlayAll, sounds good. Do you play in a cover band?
@@waynekerr4141 Certainly do - I play Stone's parts in "Pearl Jamm" a UK based tribute band, check us out here facebook.com/pearljammband/ We were recently featured on the BBC too :-) czcams.com/video/sH4F68gf_rc/video.html

What I want to know is who is the knob that gave this a thumbs down? This is a GREAT lesson! Thank you!
haha thanks man appreciate the comment! you're most welcome :-)
Which Studio and Live concert Pearl Jam songs does Mike or Stone G. roll down the tone pot control on their guitars?
2:13 tab is wrong. ok despite the errors, _this_ is probably the best tutorial of this song (especially the solo) on the yootubz.
good song to learn hendrix style chords. when the played it with little wing, its like they are playing one of the songs that influenced it along with their own song in that same style.
Yes indeed, it's almost a Hendrix/SRV cover :-)
Louis C.K. has some amazing guitar chops.
Solo 14:00 :)
thank you so much for this, this channel is a gem. Mikes part's to animal and daughter next?
Yes indeed they're on the list. Get ready for another poll soon :-)
love this tutorial. my chords get muted when my thumb is on low E. and if i roll my knuckles pointing finger is not hitting the high E properly. any tips how to hold it correctly?
Thanks! I would put your thumb down first, and then try to flatten your first finger on the top two strings, doesn't matter if your thumb mutes the A string. Give that a go until you can play a G chord on the 3rd fret. Once you've got that, just try applying your 2nd and 3rd fingers. Hope that helps!
@@LetsPlayAll thank you! will give it a try!
...and Stone gets the beers in!
haha yup!
Fantastic lesson! What amp are you using? My eyesight is getting worse ;)
Matt Hogan-Jones thanks mate! its a Victory V40 - single channel tube amp made in the UK đŹđ§
@@LetsPlayAll sounds really good!
Hey Matt! Love your lessons, but I do have a question about this one. I've been playing for a long time and I've never mastered the 'thumb over' technique for playing barre chords. Think my hands are slightly too small because I keep muting strings whenever I try to play like that, especially further up the neck. All of the lessons I've seen for this use this technique, so, would you say it's essential to play the song like this, and if so, are there any tips or recommendations you have for getting this technique down? I can play this well enough (thanks to your awesome lesson) but I find myself having to use the traditional barre chord shape with my pointer finger over the whole fret. I'm still muting the A string, but I'm curious to know what your thoughts are on this? Thanks!
Hey Pete, thanks for the kind words mate. Thumb over the top should be easier as you go up the neck in theory, but you don't need to squeeze the notes too hard to get them to sound out, so that would be one suggestion. Also fret the higher part of the chord first, then see how little thumb you need to get over the fretboard and connect with the low E string. Also don't worry if you mute the A string, that's what John Frusciante does a lot anyways. The thumb over really helps with adding the little fills, but if you can play them using a barre chord then that's fine too, there's no right or wrong way as long as you're having fun! Hope that helps :)
This was awesome, thanks for doing this. Great song and your playing is tight. Earned a sub from me. I herd this song for the first time in 1994 while in college and immediately knew I had to pick up guitar! -I know it's almost two years old, but was there ever enough demand for you to do the Live version as you mentioned towards the end of the video??? Cheers Mate!
ah thanks man, appreciate the sub! fear not a live version is on the cards, and his live tone too!
@@LetsPlayAll Nice! And thanks for the quick reply...came in right in the middle of watching your "Nothing Man" tutorial, Haha! Capo only on the four strings, What?!!! No wonder my way of playing it never sounded right. God Bless.
theOrganicGuyChannel haha no worries man! Yea Stoneâs chord voicings on that really make that tune, which oddly Jeff wrote! đđ€
Iâm sure youâve answered this but whatâs the best way to match the tone for the solo?
Most overdrive pedals will get you there, I tend to go for a mid boost pedal like a TS or Klon type into a dirt pedal, or go for something like the FLB 1991 which has two gain stages đ€
Thank you for the video. I have one question though, it seems as if the tabs are different than what you are playing in the very first section. The tabs show a triplet on the 9 and 11 of the D string followed by an 11 on the A string. However, it seems as though you are playing the triplet on the G string followed by the 11 on the D string. Am I wrong because I cannot replicate the sound from the tabs?
Yes, exactly right, that's an error in the tab, unfortunately I can't correct it on the vids without deleting and reuploading! So you should be playing the triplet on the 9 and 11 of the G string :-)
When is someone going to do a breakdown of the Live at MSG version (the best version) of this song?
Recommend Patreon.com/letsplayall for that đ€đ
What does stone play during this song?
Basic chords - E - B - A - D and repeat. Easiest backing ever :-)
Awesome..!!! Like and subscribe...
Is that tab wrong at 3:35?
Looks like you are playing G and D on fret 11, but tab shows D and A?

Would like to see everything put together, coz i see and hear a lot "there is a bit at the end". Just put everything together in order. But overall very nice video thanks
fear not, i'm planning some mammoth Ledbetter lessons soon :-)

Love your teaching style. Nothing so annoying as someone teaching a non beginner solo and spelling out every note and dragging it out for ever.
Or to put it more succinctly, you really match the song difficulty with the relevant lesson difficulty.
Thanks mate much appreciated!
I didnât know Louis Ck can play guitarđ
Louis CK is teaching guitar now??
nice job,! Your tab is off in a few spots from what you actually are playing.
Thanks - oops! :-)
Great lesson, but the actual solo is very percussive
