Great video, love the editing style! :D
Thanks for the info! Great review! I'll wait for the big bambu.
As a man with a business running a print farm that started off with 10+ Quidi tech printers I can say that running all Quidi printers was a nightmare. They broke almost daily and parts/printers discontinued what seemed monthly. We've slowly been switching over to Elegoo Neptune series printers and have had wonderful experiences so far.
I'm starting out 3d printing and trying to decide on a printer. I'm having one hell of a time trying to find honest, and legit input on what to buy. Looking at the Neptune printers now, how do you print ABS and PETG without an enclosure? I'm bouncing back and foruth between bambu, and QIDI. I haven't bought one yet and I'm already exhausted lol
@@ShipMonster trial and error for me my dude. if you have Bambu money go with that for sure but Neptunes are HAAARRDDD to beat at there price point. compared to Ender/Creality theyre far superior and cheaper for the most part. PETG doesnt require an enclosure just a slowed down print speed. ABS needs an enclosure for sure in m experience. i cant personally recommend Quidi printers to anybody after my experiences with them and their customer support over the last 2 years.
@@ShipMonsterJust buy a prusa. You won't regret it.
@@dylonandrew1if you have to choose bambu and k1 series to print mechanical parts. Which will you recommend? I have seen other printers such as Flashforge, Qidi, snapmaker(this one seems really good).
@@ShipMonsterI know this is a month later but as someone who currently runs exclusively Bambu printers, my advice would be invest in the P1S if you go with Bambu. Honestly I don’t think the x1c is really needed unless your going to print carbon fiber filaments.
I haven’t run any ASA or tpu yet as they aren’t used very often but I run a lot of abs and petg and to me I feel like I overpaid for the x1c compared to what I get out of the p1s. I also have some P1P’s and I got those before the p1s came out but especially now if I want to add a Bambu printer it’s always the p1s because I’m always wishing the p1p printers were enclosed. They work fine for pla.
Waiting for you to find one you like! I'm no print farm but my Cr10-s4 is getting old and if someone with a print farm finds a large scale next gen that is worthy, thats what I am waiting to hear!
I have a CR10-S4 too. It is slow and clogged on me last night. I haven't resolved it yet. I've been watching the Neptune 4 MAX. It is sorely tempting but I'm waiting for it to mature a little longer before I take the plunge.
The Qidi and others all remind me of my Da Vinci printers.
I have the CR10 S4, 3 years now. Runs great but slow. I am upgrading with newer parts, going to use klipper and get better print speed and finish. My brother has the QIDI X Max3. He figured it out on sticking to the print bed, and gets fantastic prints. Not all printers work well with different filaments. I found what works for my S4, I stick with it. He will stick with his filament for the Qidi X Max3 as well.
I have a Flsun v400 and she is a fast and good quality printer. It does take a little bit of tuning but is worth the effort. I'm new to the 3d world, it is my first printer. The group help page is awesome with lots of info and help. She prints faster than anything iv researched with quality for a good price.
i have one too and its a royal pain in the ass. to the point im returning it. for the regular price of around 1k shipped, it should just work. But I am sick of chasing dumb issues when other brands at this price point and cheaper do everything the v400 can and more, better.
U should really give the K1 Max another shot. I love it.
As an owner of the X-MAX 3, I will admit that this has happened many times. I find that using applying glue stick really helps keep the print stuck to the bed for the projects. That's why they include a single stick with them. Just get yourself a bundle pack of glue sticks and you should be set.
man another swing and a miss. I am also hoping for a larger format Bambu. Their CEO told CNC that it is coming but no time line. Good Luck in the hunt.
What do u like about bambu? from what jve seen so far with Customer service and proprietary
Parts im unsure & not open source im a but wary
question for you, when printing armor for cosplays, which type of filament do you use? I am getting multiple answers of either PET, PETG, ABS, or PLA. I will be trying to join the Mandalorian Mercs and also move back to central Florida so humidity will be a thing
Being able to automatically abort a bad print would be nice, but IME I've had an amazing experience with Qidi printers (just started using my xmax 3) and would gladly continue buying them. Especially with more exotic materials, it's all about prep / setup to just make sure the first few layers are put down well.
I tried the k1 max 2 times. One from creality and one from microcenter. Both had extrusion issues where the extruder would skip no matter what. Hopefully, qidi can scratch that itch. Are you going to do a more in detail review on the qidi after spending more time with it.
he returned the printer, he said it in the video
Did you have the door closed while printing PLA? The instructions clearly say to open door and remove top?
Yes
It would be great if Bambu released a larger printer just in time for the holiday season.
If bambu releases a 300mm^3 printer, I can finally ditch my Raise3d N2.
Dr. TAO OF bambu has said the large format X1 will be coming out in 2024. They are working on it now.
I saw you’re filters on your nozzle fans. Can you model and link one for the og cr-10? I’ve already lost a fan to dog hair.
With 256mm build area on x1, to print that same mask would it need to be printed in 2 pieces? I love the idea of printing a mask in one shot.
Most likely yes
Yours is the first recent video that is negative on the Qidi Max 3 that I have come across. I did a search on youtube and there are a lot of videos on bed adhesion issues with those bambu printers. Bambu had to come out with their own glue and new gold PEI build surface. So thinking if this is a big issue with the Qidi you will also be disappointed with the bambu as well. Unless of course this was just a reason to return the printer and get your money back after playing with it😉😉.
Any chance you will review a Prusa XL?
I presume your only looking at pre-builts v's something like a Voron 2.4?
Thanks for the review. I just destroyed a Neptune 4 Max in a similar way. Big prints need AI fault detection. No one can stare at a printer for 20 some hours straight.
Do you think you could try out Elegoo's new Neptune 4 Max? It is a new high speed printer with a 420mm x 420mm x 480mm build volume.
Bro, No! Elagoo Neptun 4 Max It's a freaking open bed slinger!
I sure wish this video came out before buying my X-Max 3. Mine has also had many problems - too many to list here.
What kind of issues do you have? I'm looking to buy and about to pull the trigger on it
Like I said, too many to list, but here's my top five:
1. The heat break on the hot end is under-spec'd. You get heat creep and jamming if you try to actually use the heated chamber. QIDI advertises 65 degrees on their website, but I'd say you can realistically get away with about 30 on PLA, 38 on PETG, and 45 with ABS and Nylon.
2. Because of the lack of sufficient chamber heating, large prints tend to warp badly. The large build volume is the whole reason you'd buy this printer, but the inability to adequately heat the chamber and prevent warping makes it far less useful. Once a large part warps, bed adhesion can suffer as well.
3. The slicer profiles that come with the QIDI slicer are optimized for print speed and NOT part strength. If you want parts that are strong and look good, you'll have to build your own profiles that run much slower. Also, the Arachne perimeter generation tool can ruin parts that have a lot of large flat-ish surfaces.
4. The printer doesn't always do what the slicer software tells it. You'll probably have to configure some custom g-code if you want to do things like pause for filament changes or accurately control the cooling fans. This is just unacceptable for a machine aimed at the prosumer market.
5. The printer is cheaply built, noisy, and rattles like a tin can full of marbles. It makes me doubt its longevity. QIDI will send you spare parts if things break, but I wanted a good printer. I don't want to have to wait a week for parts that never should've broken in the first place.
I wish I had just bought a BambuLab P1S combo and learned to deal with the smaller build volume. Just my 2 cents. @@michallojewski7728
Have you through about selling the cr10 v2s when you phase them out?
Yes and we will!
Have you tried elego?
They have a large print model. The new Neptune 4 series prints fast
cool, been looking for a large printer
Yes it will be a great printer once they clean up all of it's bugs. Why I'm still holding off buying it but am very happy with my X-Plus first Gen.
3:36 I guess it's great when you have an acrylic cover over a glass cover.
5:45 17? It takes the Kobra 2 Max twice that mount to print on max speed I think.
6:55 What slicer did you use? I have the mentioned printer on the last statement I don't know if I should use Cura or not. I haven't fully tested it yet to print helmets!
7:29 Oooooooh... Damn!
The search continues.
You can use the qidi slicer or orca slicer
have you looked into the elegoo neptune 4 line, just a faster printing neptune 3. idk how good they are tho in comparison to bamboo printers
Not yet!
Well, the day they come out with a 500 cubed fast printer, I will be heppy then.
Are you folks planning to try out the Prusa XL once it ships? 36x36x36 volume.
Never really understood the hype of prusa printers but might try it!
@@GalacticArmory having only owned the mini I would say it's the quality control and reliability. The fact that their own printer is what they use in the factory to produce them shows that they are stress-tested far more than any other printer around and get further refinement as a result. The mini was incredibly reliable and gave me great results with little tinkering, but that's just my anecdotal experience.
36x36x36cm so 14x14x14in not that much larger
@@TheTeeDay Nah it's only a tiny bit larger, I think the print quality, reliability, and MMU functionality will set it apart from this particular model though. I am very interested to see how it compares to the Bambu offerings.
@@MrTylerSiwy I know some people don’t like it but I’ve had nothing but great results with my k1 max
What about the kobra max 2?
IT FEELS ILLEGAL TO BE THIS EARLY.
This printer looks slick!!
Damn that's WILD. Thanks for the warning that the thing destroys itself so easily.
Gotta agree with you there. That Qidi looks nice, but those Bambus just...work.
Elegoo Neptune 4 might work
I’ve had great luck with the Elegoo Neptune 4 Pro. Assuming the quality carries forward, the Neptune 4 max should be one heck of a workhorse printer.
Can you pretty please make a video or short clone pilot animated clone wars whith the string thing
You know it's a good printer when Arron can barely carry it!
Give the k1 max a second chance had mine for 2 weeks now going great done 2 helmets lots of armour pieces and Halloween toys thinking on getting a second unit anyway love your gear and videos
Can you do a Shock trooper
So... You didn't watch the first layer of a printer without a camera/failure detection, then suprise pikachu faced when you had a failure on a very early print, one where your settings/etc haven't been worked out? What your describing isn't really an odd failure mode on most printers when you let it go for many, many hours after a failure and spagetti started. Just feels a bit disenguious imo.
We put humans on the moon 54 years ago. It's not unreasonable to think that a 3D printer should just work by itself without constant human attention. I've been 3D modeling and printing as a professional for 6 years now. The X-Max 3 is just flat-out disappointing.
@@rocketwrench yes, but stratus had patents on printing for 30 something years, so it’s only been around since the early 2000s, it didn’t have the funding of the US government. It literally was born from random people coming together and making stuff DIY literally making printers to make more printers It’s not like a normal 2d printer. You can just hit one button and go.
@@Brandon-jf9cv I agree with you completely. I wasn't trying to compare it to a space program. I was merely pointing out that BambuLab has been able to make 3d printers that work extremely well with very little human attention on a very modest budget. Other companies just have no excuse nowadays.
A few comments in no order… you can improve bed adhesion by a little more squish. The included plastic sheet for setting Z offset is a little thick… squish it a bit more. And of course you need to wash the sheet with soap and water to remove any residual contamination. This is a common issue with many printers. Seems you should have had bed adhesion dialed in before leaving the printer unattended. This can happen with any 3d printer, but obviously an enclosed printer is more likely to damage itself because the mess has nowhere to go. Not defending Qidi but it seems you gave up on it after one problem which was a possibly self-inflicted. Bambu would have detected the failure (maybe) but from what I hear most people turn that feature off because of all the false positives. And you can add a cheap webcam to the Qidi and run free Obico software for spaghetti detection, self hosted, so no data leaves your facility. I also think much of the point of running a Qidi is for the heated chamber, so you could be printing in ABS which IMHO is better for cosplay props anyway… doesn’t shrink in the sunlight and is tougher and easier to sand. Anyway I don’t really know how these printers stand up to print farm usage, but after your video, I still don’t know….
Qidi now has a Camera module for $30 u can add.
Thanks for that info, I'll probably try that app.
I've bought a Qidi X-plus 3 last week and prints seem decent.
I had at first a couple adhesion issues but after adjusting z-offset I haven't had any.
All the prints have adhered perfectly (even though I wipe the print plate with my hands).
Has the original QIDI X Max, had the same complaints. The only thing they really added was auto bed leveling. They’re wildly behind on modern features
Kobra Max 2
Everyone has moved on to nozzle probing. Bambu, Prusa, even bottom of the barrel creality for god's sake. It's utterly bizarre that qidi desperately clings to the obsolete manual Z offset nonsense from 2013.
*cough*Neptune*cough*
Well you saved me $900, not buying it now. Hope you get it working better sometime!
lol cant belive u would rather have creality junk then qidi
they used to be good when they were just making variations of the makerbot. Their quality has gone to hell. They are erratic and will not hold level among randomly deciding z offset should ram the bed into the nozzle. too many things you have to fix to get it to work right. THey had to send out complete upgrade kits to people that replaced the whole hot end and other major parts.
Qidi is pronounced She Dee.
Dude wear a tshirt
Dude didn’t check on a big print, and bailed on the whole line because he was too lazy to make it work. That’s my impression.
What a disappointing review.
