Rolex watches come in a variety of forms and styles and prices can range from a few thousand dollars to well past the million-dollar mark. Rolex’s catalog breaks down into two categories: Classic and Professional. The Classic line is where you will find all of Rolex’s traditional models and dress watches, while the Professional side contains all of Rolex’s purpose-built sport and tool watches.
Within the Classic range, you will find the Oyster Perpetual, Datejust, Lady-Datejust, Pearlmaster, Day-Date, Sky-Dweller, and Cellini. The Professional category is home to the Submariner, Explorer, Daytona, Sea-Dweller, GMT-Master II, Yacht-Master, Air-King, and Milgauss.
The Oyster Perpetual is Rolex’s oldest line of watches dating back to the 1930s. While it has been produced in a number of different configurations, the current collection consists of only stainless steel models with retail prices ranging from $5k to $6k.
Introduced in 1945, the Datejust is Rolex’s most diverse collection. Today, it is offered in sizes ranging from 28mm (Lady-Datejust) to 41mm and it is produced in a wide variety of different materials and configurations. While the 34mm model is known simply as the Date, the Pearlmaster is another variation of the Datejust that is characterized by its precious metal construction and exclusive Pearlmaster bracelet.
Launched in 1956, the Day-Date (aka Rolex President) is the brand’s flagship collection. Offered in either 36mm or 40mm sizes and exclusively crafted from either solid gold or platinum, Rolex Day-Date watches display both the date and the day of the week.
Released in 2012 and boasting a dual timezone display and an annual calendar, the Rolex Sky-Dweller is the brand’s most complex model. Offered in either solid gold or Rolesor, the Sky-Dweller is a luxurious take on the ultimate travel watch.
The Rolex Cellini is the brand’s dress watch collection crafted from either solid gold or platinum. Exchanging water-resistance for elegant and refined designs, Cellini watches represent the most formal options within Rolex’s catalog.
Launched in 1953, the Explorer is Rolex’s first sports watch. Crafted from stainless steel and fitted with a robust time-only movement, the Rolex Explorer is the definition of rugged simplicity. Alongside the standard Explorer, Rolex also offers the Explorer II as a watch for speleologists. The Explorer II is only offered in stainless steel, but it takes things up a notch with a date display and an additional 24-hour hand.
In 1953, Rolex released the Submariner. Originally only offered as a no-date model in stainless steel, the Rolex Submariner has expanded over the years to include both date and no-date models, along with a number of different material and color options.
Rolex also offers both the Sea-Dweller and Deepsea as more extreme dive watches. With increased depth ratings and helium escape valves, Rolex Sea-Dweller and Deepsea watches are capable of traveling to the deepest parts of the ocean.
Released in 1955 as a watch for pilots, the Rolex GMT-Master is characterized by its 24-hour bezel and additional GMT hand. Since its debut, the collection has evolved into the GMT-Master II, but it is still offered with its iconic red and blue Pepsi bezel.
Launched in 1963, the Rolex Daytona is a chronograph watch aimed at the world of racing. Defined by its trio of sub-dials and pair of chronograph pushers, the Daytona has since become an icon within the world of watches and one of Rolex’s most popular models.
The Milgauss is Rolex’s antimagnetic watch for scientists. Classified as a tool watch rather than a sports watch, the Milgauss is exclusively crafted in stainless steel and remains one of the brand’s most underrated models.
The Air-King is Rolex’s tribute to aviation, first appearing during the 1940s and becoming its own collection in 1958. Historically positioned as one of Rolex’s entry-level options, the current model features an antimagnetic case and movement borrowed from the Milgauss.
In 1992, Rolex released the Yacht-Master as a luxury-oriented sports watch. The Yacht-Master collection is the only Rolex sports watch offered in multiple sizes. While the original Yacht-Master is a luxury rendition of the classic sports watch, the Yacht-Master II is a purpose-built regatta timer specifically designed for professional boat racing.
Regardless of the model you choose, all Rolex watches are crafted to the same legendary standards, and with prices ranging from just a few thousand dollars to well beyond a million dollars, there is a Rolex watch out there for every wrist and budget.

I been doing research on what I want, and I want the red dial oyster perpetual but, why is "oyster perpetual" printed on every watch? Crazy to me how this watch can be a submariner but. Still have oyster perpetual printed on the dial?

So I have a question. Putting aside Role’s great marketing, how many of you feel the watches are really worth the price for what you get? With probably the exception of the Oyster Perpetual, Airking and Explorer, I really think they are over priced. I’m looking at an Omega Planet Ocean. Resuscitate either the Sea Dweller or Submariner. The Sub and Seadweller are beautiful watches and iconic, but I just can justify paying almost 4000. More for submariner or even 8000. More for Seadweller when you factor in an AD discount on the Omega. I understand the argument about holding value, but you still have to find a buyer. If you don’t plan on selling, is it really worth the money? I’. Not bashing Rolex or their owners, just trying to understand what I am missing here.

    • @bobswatches
      @bobswatches  Před 2 lety +2

Putting aside Rolex's marketing the watches still have great value. The specific material and architecture are some of the best out there, but some of the prices in the pre-owned market can be a little steep because of demand and of course the marketing Rolex puts behind it. The demand of these watches highly out weighs the supply so those prices keep going up...

I bought a black submariner from a crackhead for $100 bucks, turned out it was the real deal.

Rolex are the most bland boting looking overpriced watches on the market....the yacht masters are the only ones at a pinch i could just anout stomach. I hate the look of the roting bezel part of the watch..totally ruins the look for me and in general they are very plain and dull. If i had the money to be able to buy a rolex i would walk past rheir shop and go to literally any other sho and buy a watch from them.
