    Great video peter. I cant wait to make a tanuki one day. Just a little extra tip ive seen people take time also to carve channels in the deadwood and lay the live whips into the deadwood so it falls in place nicely also. Prob takes alot of time though

    Peter I've actually used paneling nails with the ridges, now just the nails in my air gun to attach the sapling to the driftwood inside channels I've cut. So much easier. Just another trick. Steve.

    Dr. Chan, another video filled with information and techniques. Again thank you.
    Driftwood is a great source of "deadwood" and is already "seasoned" and "blasted" if the beach is convenient.

    • @mavventura1133
      @mavventura1133 Před rokem +2

      "Tanuki" is creating a live wood mixed with found deadwood. To form a "fake old tree" However, there are true junipers with massive deadwood portions along the trunk (Shari) where a trunk actually was and it died off naturally or was purposly killed to induce more "age"... creating the illusion of an old tree with deadwood in a tanuki fashion is very very difficult. SO FACINATING TO WATCH

    I created a deconstructed Tanuki with cuttings and deadwood by incorporating the deadwood as separate plantings in a forest grouping. So I have 5 dead trees and 2 live ones.

    I followed your technique last year & have a decent hibiscus tanuki from a year old pencil thick trunk. A tamarind tanuki is in the making (fingers crossed ) , neem sapling somehow didn’t take too kindly to hugging deadwood so I took it off, it’s happy now, thank you for reinforcing the tips & tricks

    Do you still treat the plant with fertilizer following the grow period? How long did you grow out that juniper for again.
    I love the use of cable ties; tanuki is fun and so expressive. Peter chuckle is so infectious have a great week.

    If you eventually remove the ties will the tree not seperate from the dead wood? The curves on the outside,or will it "roll" over the deadwood?

    Hey Peter do you know how tanuki is received in the bonsai world? I've talked to a few bonsai people and they kind of chuckle at the idea of tanuki like its not a valid bonsai practice. Whats your opinion?

    • @peterchan3100
      @peterchan3100 Před rokem +9

      They are just jealous - ordinary folk like you and me enjoy making Tanuki - what is the problem. I hate these "gate-keepers " in the bonsai world who try to control every thing. Who are they to tell us what we can and cannot do, (You can see this sort of thing irks me)
