I've tried tons of methods and when I started using this method I was able to make waaaay more space in my wrench drawer. The only drawback was needing to pull a wrench up to make sure which size I had but I put marks on them to show me specific sizes then it was easy to know where my 15 was if my 17 was marked two slots up.

did you try to give them about 35 degree tilt? would the wire still hold it's shape like that?

I tried this out and it kinda worked. The thicker the material the better but the more you have to tinker with it more to keep it looking nice.
