    That plier rack is amazing. I have three different type of the pre-made wire type racks, which always seem to be spaced out too small (you grab one item and pull the whole rack out), or too large and the pieces fall over. Your solution solves the issues. I might try to replicate using some old copper tubing or heavy gauge steel wire (suspended ceiling support wire) I have lying around. Gonna find your other video on that.
    The use of the file cabinets is great too. They are designed for full access and tons of weight, just not immediately useful for tool storage.

    • @backintheshop9604
      @backintheshop9604  Před 2 lety

      Thanks! Yes check out the build video on the pliers rack. I welded it together so if you use copper you might have to braze it. The file cabinet are so useful especially for power tools and blow molded cases.

    Office file cabinets are the Legos/Tinker Toys/Lincoln Logs of storage. Buy 2,3,4,5 drawer standard and horizontal/side pull cabinets in standard 15" or legal 18" widthsfor $5-25 at GoodWill style thrift stores. Group a bank of 2 drawer units with a butcher block laminated top and viola instant work bench. Couple tall 5 drawer units with a bench top bolted between makes a great work bench that can have top and pull down front door added for a closable/lockable bench. Horizontal side pull units in 30, 36, 42, 48 widths make great power tool storage....boxed or bare.... with factory steel sheet dividers adjusted in slot in drawer bottoms to separate power tools. Add power strips, lighting for work benches.

    Excellent ideas and very well executed. For chargers and anything else you want to stick on vertical metal surfaces you can also use magnets. This will let you move them around as needed and you won't need to cut up your hutch. Amazon has super strong rare earth magnets in a 1/2" diameter metal case with holes through them for mounting on things, they're not expensive and they work perfectly. I even put a few of those on some 4' LED shop lights that I like to move around and use as work lights.

    Smart , guys I worked with at American airlines in Tulsa Oklahoma , used the old parts been cabinets ( hardware storage ) from the company and converted them to tool boxes , I believe that's the same thing you got there. Heavy duty drawers that are rated for extreme heavy weight ( imagine one of those drawers full of nuts or washers ) Yeah I like the PVC pipe for storing wrenches , I might do that to my box . Thanks for the video .

    Thanks for the video and ideas. I would put a piece of rubber, wood or something under those batteries. It is not good to sit batteries on metal. I use pieces of Rubber material that is used when we hauled big rolls of paper to keep it from moving. If you have a truck stop , big printing company or a paper manufacturer near you some of the lazy drivers throw it out after delivering. The guys on the docks of the places I delivered to were happy to leave it in the truck( if it their responsibility to clean out the truck ,but must places made us clean the trailer out. I have mostly seen it in 3'x3' squares but have seen it in 2' wide rolls of 10-20'. I use it as drawer liners. 1000 times better than anything I have ever bought. If it will keep a 10-12 thousand pound roll of paper in place you can imagine how it works for tools. Thanks again for the video.

    I tell ya what i done was bought a bag of 200 neodiblium cylindrical magnets that were about an inch tall by 1/4” round. They fit the inside of 1/4 sockets but hold the 3/8 and used 2 for my half inch.. but all i did was take my drawer out, lined it with wax paper and set the magnets where i wanted em and poured a thin 1/8” layer of 2 part clear epoxy, let her dry and peel the wax paper off and worked a dream so far.. holds everything in place. Removable if i get tired of it and only cost me maybe 20$.. only bad part is if youre a metal worker all your shit gets magnetized .. helps on automotive stuff but you go cutting on sometbing and get shavings in there you gotta air hose the stuff out….

      The Dewalt high torque really is a great tool. I've been using it lightly for a few years now and it has never let me down. I really prefer my air tools though. But it's nice to have the portability of the cordless sometimes. I also own the Milwaukee high torque and I really can't say that one is better than the other. So if you are a Dewalt guy, I wouldn't hesitate to buy that high torque. That said, both the Dewalt and Milwaukee mid torque impacts are weaker than I thought they would be. I tend to use my AirCat stubby impact wrench the most though. It handles 90%+ of what I do, and it's much more compact and comfortable.
