This is the result when a composer actually understands which emotions the game developers are trying to convey. Beautiful.
Soundtrack really has to be top notch for a game to be such a gem as this one.

You can FEEL the cold. It's absolutely incredible.
For extra immersion I played the game in winter with extra little clothing. I was shivering while I was playing. It was awesome!

I live in Siberia. This music is very suitable for every morning when I leave the house in winter and go to work.
Well frostpunk is a masterpice, made by a slavic country wich makes you fell the depresion (fun fact the studio that made this game has a happy,sad phases. Basicly they go from a happy coulurfull game to Anomaly then back to happy coulours to then This war of mine, next is another coulors happy game, and we get frostpunk)

They know how to create a stunning game. Oh hell yeah they do. But they don't seem to know much about mining. If I were in a millenium blizzard with -150°C, I'd be happy to be in the lower levels of a coal mine for it gets warmer the more you descend. So this might be the best place - as long as you get fresh air supply from the surface...

'The City Must Survive' will never not make me recall the dread I felt in my first playthrough when the temperature kept dropping and I was just desperately hoping for them to pull through. Marvelous game.

"The city MUST survive". The name give me chills on its own. This imagine of humankind, stretched to its furthest limit, with no choice but to try, desperately, in the face of nature's vast unfeeling cruelty. This is humanities' last chance to survive, there's no guarantee that the city will survive, only that it MUST.
*An improvised shrine has been put up where the child worker was killed. People left a few memorial tokens on it - a tin horse, a sweet bun, a small glove. Someone scrawled CHILD KILLER in big, red letters on the machine in which the kid died..*
*Send the guards to clean the machine : We must not lose hope now*
It was hope that pushed us forward.
And we payed the price... a hundred times.
Things were going well. People were happy. Crime wasn't an issue. We were well fed. Then "The City Must Survive" hit with the storm. All hell broke loose, which would have been preferable, because it would have been warm. Those first playthrough vibes after discovering this game are awesome. Great fun!

Frostpunk is a game that taught me that hope is something that needs to be found and created - it does not sprout out of nothing. The tone of overcoming adversity and building a small light where there should be only despair in the OST always put me at peace when I fell overwhelmed by the world.
Dear Alice- By the time of me writing this I have but a few days left and you are just now taking your first steps into the new cold world.
Hopefully when you are old enough to read this the city will be finished and the days of our hardships will be long over. May you never have to know the pain of working consecutive days on end mining coal or the endless agony of searching a frozen hell for anything that can help the city survive. All that I ask of you is that you enjoy this new life you’ve been given and that you be humble to all those around you. Always be stern and respectable but also modest and kind. Whatever this new world has to offer you may it be far better then what me and your mother were given.

I use this soundtrack in my Rime of the Frostmaiden campaign. I used The City Must Survive during an avalanche and one of my players said it was the most suspenseful moment he has ever had in D&D. This soundtrack is powerful.

When I started my first job working as a solar panel installer I had the ost downloaded on my old mp3 and when I would go to work out in the solar farm fields to set up acres of bases for the panels I'd play this. It was great cuz it was the middle of winter in 2020 and in December up here in New York I was a hop skip and a jump away from Canada. On good days it was 15°F and on bad days it would be -18°F with high winds with white outs. Working out there my job was strait forward so I was able to get by not having to talk much with others and it let me focus on my work while also letting my mind wonder to imaginary scenarios I'd make up listening to the frostpunk ost.

There's this widow in the scenario campaign that asked to be put into the ranger corps so she can search for others like herself. I've always kept an eye on her progress. I straight up sweated through that storm hoping she'd make it back before it overtook her group. She made it back.
I kept telling myself as long as I can keep her alive, I'd know I'm doing good.
This game made you realise how lucky we are and how hard being a leader really is, and real life is way harder
I was lisining to this while on the bus and it was raining most depressing half hour of my life
I don't know where you are from, but I like to put this playing while marching to school during heavy snowing. It's awesome.
Honestly I love the soundtrack and the feelings it gives.
The menu theme for example conveys some minor hopeless and sadness at the beginning via slow and sad music, with it getting more ecstatic and loud, to signify that they've adapted, and that everything will be okay... Or to signify that it's gotten a whole lot worse.
The City Must Survive meanwhile conveys one simple message... Fight. Its ecstatic, fast, badass, and really shows the idea of a giant storm full of people pushing through to survive, kicking and screaming to fight past it.
This game is art. The visuals are art. The music is art.
Actually it is better to make children work as medics. Less people dying - less hope fall

@@abyrvalg_ I'm with you. Went for engineers on my last playthrough to change it up and I'm having a horrible time keeping hope up with all the deaths, even with my guards on constant patrol. Back to medics it is next time.
I never experienced the cold, but whenever it rains here it's nerve wracking, since flooding is really common here and I've been through plenty of floods myself, I've practically learnt how to swim in garbage filled waters. I don't experience it anymore since my family and I moved into a flood-proof condominium, any place still had risks so we decided to choose it. Still when it rains I remember the days where we nearly die from such a cruel force of nature, I nearly failed school because all of my books and supplies got washed away. Nowadays the rapidly changing climate has given us even stronger storms than usual and I'm afraid it will just go downhill from there, we are in a island nation and once the Ice caps are gone only the high places deep inland would survive which is not much.
Here in Michigan the summers are getting hotter each year and the mosquito swarms are getting really bad, and the winters are flipping between either very warm with a lot less snow than there should be to sometimes getting down to -30s

@@xyro3633 Well mosquito storms are in the book of revelations. So they kinda are associated with doomsdays.
@@xyro3633 most say global warming, but climate change is technically the correct term since there will be higher high and lower lows where the cold in several places will be even harsher and painful, heat will glaze grass and lead to worse droughts.
Climate change also leads to even more erratic weather and harder-hitting forces
I'm in Canada (north but not that much) and let me tell you that the game did a very good job at making us feel the cold even in the game. It is exactly like that. The whistling wind, the crackling sound, the frost, etc (from the many -40 & -50 Celsius I have experienced). It's like someone is constantly whipping your face, fingers and feet. Winter is nice don't get me wrong, but the cold goes through your bones and it can be awful at some times. As devastating as heat
If you listen to this while studying, you will feel like you are an engineer.

I remember when I first got this game and started it up. I had seen the trailer for it before and thought it looked cool, and decided to get it in a Steam sale. I started it up and it seemed pretty normal but when the intro music played I was immediately awestruck. I have always liked video game soundtracks, but I was speechless. 10/10 Piotr Musiał, absolutely fantastic.
I'm a Canadian living in an area where it routinely reaches -30/-40 degrees. So when I walk, I play this.

Oh man, everything about this is expertly crafted and executed.
The soft, warm strings in the opening sections are incredible. And the brass (especially the bass trombone) in "The City Must Survive" are such an intense, shiny color.

As a mail carrier in the upper Midwest, this has basically become my personal soundtrack.
The temperature inside my office is chilly and I didn't bring earmuffs. Guess my headphones will have to do.

IIt's 28 °C outside. Can still feel the chill on my skin when listening to this.
I had every heating upgrade, every house upgrade, I had automatons, I had prosthetics, I had happy citizens (Although I abused faith), I had all generator upgrades, I had enough food and coal, and I even sent the generator to overdrive, yet still seeing those snowflakes above those houses put a deep pit in my stomach. It would have been a no-deaths run if it weren't for those bears.
Into The Storm is probably the most badass track of them all. It really embodies the "shit is going to happen and we cannot do anything about it" feeling.

One of the very best in existence along side the Witcher trilogy dark souls trilogy and almost all soul likes actually ima quit listing them up there just to many when I started writing this down I had few in mind now I have dozens

Согласен. Саундтрек довольно хороший и цепляющий за душу. Особенно Главная тема, тема пути Веры, Порядка, Бури, а так же Are we alone. Я обожаю эту игру за её атмосферу вечной зимы и безнадёжности в этом ледяном аду. Даже прошёл основную компанию на Выживании.

The Order isn't that evil actually, it's not like anyone has the luxury of civil liberties when the world is so messed up. People need discipline and courage during these times. I find it better than to become zealots, we aren't really fascists since there is no one to fight other than the cold. This game has one of the few scenarios where I would accept such a authoritarian government.

Its easy to point at "bad things" when we have everything easily accessible and have never experienced real hardship.
One of my favorite soundtracks. Whenever I’m thinking up post apocalyptic worlds, THIS is one of my staples. The slow melancholy of the strings building up into a crescendo of determination, it really gets the creative juices flowing.
It doesn't matter how hot it is outside. Every time I listen to these soundtracks, I get shivering and cold...
No wonder I got drawn to the soundtrack so quick, it’s the same composer for the Witcher dlc blood and wine, I still listen to Slopes of Blessure to this day

Yeah the music is great and all but you wanna know something else ? In all of the "finale" tracks for the main scenarios (on the edge new home and last autumn) there's one special detail that none of the other tracks have. There's always the sound of a ticking clock. All what I'm assuming are supposed to represent something inveitably coming. For the last autumn it's the time to build/upgrade the generator before rescue comes. Ironically called *the inevitable*
For new home the ticking in *the city must survive* is supposed to represent the time before the great storm ends.
In on the edge the ticking means the time they have before *new Londons ultimatum*

Whenever I feel tired or stressed out, I put on the song at 16:05. Gets me motivated. Almost like "People are depending on me, I must work harder!". However I don't play it often as I don't want to ruin this feeling.
This game hits different since I moved from California to a lake effect snow belt part of New York... when the pipes are frozen, the power is out, and the snow is piling up...

remember my first playthrough, at the end of the scenario when the great frost hit, i was thinking that i was prepared for anything... i was mistaken, to little of the poppulation survived and oh dear, the religios zealots was a great help and the kids that were alwas helped and never putted to work, the ones that save everyone... by everyone was just the lucky ones

The siege of the great city was nearly put to a halt by the blizzard. The stores were empty. The trams had long frozen solid, inoperable. The only movement on the streets was sleds to haul away the dead. Indoors, without heating, people wrapped themselves in three layers at minimum only to still die from the cold.
Always there was the ticking of the metronome, always in time with the next explosion from artillery shells landing.
Before the lake froze over solidly enough to evacuate, the city of St.Peter died as it had lived for the past year - with its teeth clenched tight.
