can i have a racket? So that I can play again. Never had one :(
perfect for dashing to the net for a volley
Fui engañado, el título estaba en español pero el video en Inglés v:
I instantly found the result.. More first serves in.. More accurate serve down the T and more aces. Thanks
Where do u live and play Goutham..If u r in Mumbai let me know
Exactly
Congrats man! Down the T is great, especially in doubles it gives your up man a far better chance to poach and make plays on the ball.
This is how often he says : There you go
👇
kermitthedog_ as I read the comments I heard there you go
Spot the dumb murican who only speaks one language and makes fun of people's ESL
This is an incredible video: short and focused commentary; breakdown/progressions covered; player slo-mo from different key angles; and a pro w/ a pleasant, easy personality. Bravo!!
Scott Hazlewood , really appreciate your comments!
except that the pronation should be driven by ISR and he shows it with the shoulder still held back and not getting ISR to drive that pronation....this isn't best and could be a bit risky...and without the proper angle between the forearm and racket, the pronation has limited additional benefit to the serve.
the best explanation of pronation i have come across.most of us think we pronate because the devil is in the details and in this slow motion prior and after comparison i could see that she doesnt pronate as majority of recreational players who cant even do the motion like your student
I feel quite IGNORANT right about now. I do no pronate AT ALL. I'm a 4.5 -5 level player with a fairly consistent serve but not much pop. I'm only 5'8" also. I'm going out to practice this ASAP. Thank you.
Too funny. I'm just the opposite. I'm a 4.0 and I've been pronating grip without thinking about it my whole life. Back in the day, coaches always taught NOT to pronate. Maybe it's because of the wood racquets (yeah, I'm old) ?? What's funny is that my serve is the biggest part of my game. I'm 62 yrs old, only 5'6", yet can still bang out 110mph serves every great now and then. When I was in my teens/twenties, I could bang out 110-115mph, but the new racquet technology has allowed me to maintain. Can't do it frequently, but I can still get there.
@@ayokay123 pronating can cause wrist issues that why you might not have been taught to do it.
@@shadowstriker7899 If it is done correctly, it won't bother the wrist. Some people unintentionally flick their wrist during contact, which is the real culprit of their wrist problems, not pronation.
Wow, excellent video!!! Thank you so much...honestly one of the BEST explanations of pronation in serve technique !!
Thanks, making this video available to all and sharing your knowledge is very generous and awesome. Secondly your teaching is so easy to understand. My man!
He only said “there you go” nine separate times... so, there you go.
That looked like a really good end result. Very nice serve
I tore a bicep muscle that’s caused me shoulder trouble with this technique. Be careful with this pronation.
Jeffry Allchin Ouch, doesn't sound good. Ok, will be careful.
Woow! Nobody taught me this ! It seems simple and effective. I will start practicing it. Thanks!!
Finally some one to explain the P technique so that a hacker like me can understand. I am excited I got 2 ball hoppers & headed for the court in 30 minutes. Thx
Loved this video. As a new tennis player this was the best serving video I found very informative and straight to the point compared to the others thank you
This is a very good instruction video on how to serve big using pronation. Great job!
This is the best video in teaching and showing pronation
Great video, never knew this. Will try it soon. Thanks
Ok bro. I love you. The simple football analogy is spot on perfect. It changed everything in my understanding. I was a Qb with a hell of an arm and baseball player. Along with a semi nasty racquetball player. I have all the base for tennis. But my serve sucks. This really really helped me
Hey, that’s my coach! Good job Sergey!
Awesome! Thank you for this share!!
Excellent video, quick and to the point, and I just learned a new way to teach the pronation. Thank you keep up the great videos!
Muito boa a aula! Ajudou a otimizar meu saque! Obrigado! (Brasil)
Great video !! Thank you !!
Wonferful !!!!!!! it's the answer to all my serve problems ..... thank you so much ........
Oh wow....keep up those instructional videos coming!
We will, thanks for your comment!
Ok, this worked for me right out of the gate. My service speed had recently slowed down and I couldn't figure out what I had been doing differently. Fixed it!! Thanks.
Great explanation of pronation.
Thank you. The HARDEST thing to do in Tennis. You simplified it.
Can't wait to try this out soon!
Now that was a great serve video!!
MUCH improved pronation and pop! Good job student and teacher!
Andrew Chinnes , thank you very much!
Agree. I had the same question.
Great job Coach !
Thanks for such a nice serve technique video, must to watch for some one struggling with serve, i will definitely incorporate this technique. Cheers
Very clear on technique. Thanks.
Check out the top pros serve in slow-motion. They swing towards the ball with the side of the racket
coming up to meet the ball. At the moment of impact the racket face rotates to strike the ball center
which is followed by the racket face continuing to the right and then proceeds down towards the left side
of the body. This motion of the side of the racket coming up towards the ball creates great pronation.
This motion requires a relaxed arm and fluid swing otherwise you can hurt your shoulder muscles.
The pronation is just one part of the serve.
Yup.
Relaxation & trust the pronation.
The young lady in this vid is taking the first step in undoing years of muscle memory and possibly poor coaching.🤔
Watched your video for the first time and subscribe immediately.
Love the video. Thx
Thanks for the class
exactly how I teach the serve as well. Great minds think alike. Nice club and good job brother.
Another excellent instructional video!
To be accurate with terminology pro nation is what goes up . This reference to the motion is actually a downward forearm travel due an aborted elbow which naturally turns the palm outward . As the elbow stops the racket SUB nates causing increased speed with less effort . It is fully possible to match ball speed without this method but with notably more arm speed .
The plus side of stopping the elbow at a high level is clearly the high level that the ball rises off the ground and the up body posture that goes with it . Forget about the hand turning out , Stopping the elbow does the trick .
A topspin forehand has pro nation folks cause it goes up not down !
Kerstin2626 not sure where you got your latin from pronation means what invertes to the inside as opposed to supination what twists to the outside ....so not sure where you got this from...at least try not to pronate meaning of the words lol...but keep it for your servemotion
Great vid! Thank you
THIS IS VERY HELPFUL!
Bel video credo che mi servirà molto
Bravi bravi like per l’Italia
Golden tip.
I want to make my serve a weapon thanks for the helpful tips.
Just tried this yesterday. The speed is indeed increasing but harder to control the accuracy. Just need more practicing. Thanks for the tips.
Thanks, I'll try it tomorrow. I lost in the finals of a usta 4.0 event and I needed a big serve which I don't have.
Great vid!
cool !couldn't wait to have a try.
Thanks for your comment!
It would really help me to see a lefty serve. Hard to transfer by watching a righty serve. Thank you.
It’s typical in badminton and volleyball too. That’s the way they add more energy to the hits.
this dude is awesome..
Robert Mitchell , thank you very much for your comment!
Must try this.
very good explained greetings from holland
Great video! I am a 3.5 USTA player and have heard the term many times, but never had it explained so well. I thought it was about "snapping" the wrist, simply using it more. Never realized the wrist is actually turning, ending with the palm facing to the right. Thanks!!!
Thanks for your comment Paul!
It comes from the shoulder, then through the arm and wrist
Thank you guys, there are so many tennis channels out there and I'm very happy I finally found the best one. You are appreciated
Just lookin in the comments to see if the vid is good
Few ppl saying it bad but lots of ppl are saying its good
You have a new sub ;)
You have a new like ;)
Fantastic !!!
that's the best description and demonstration of pronation i've seen.
Finally .... i get my head around what pronation is.
Well done :)
Superb
Nice. Thank you
Clear earnest Thx
Thanks for the excellent video! I would like to know if pronation works on topspin serves too.
Yes, it's very important to pronate on the quick serve to get the full potential. Thank you!
Muito legal a aula...
,,thanks for help.
Спасибо за урок!
Thanx
Awesome
even her “before” is not bad. but her ”after” is just awesome!
Great video, man! Perfect explanation. Great slow mo at the end to wrap it up and bring it all together. Hopefully, I can work on this this coming week.
Thanks for your comment!
nice
+ Time Value Of Tennis - GR8 Vid. did u mean to include that version of Yasmine's serve at the very end? it appears to be the former one from the beginning of the vid??
COMPLETELY different after contact, the face of the racket turns toward the side fence...20MPH more, give me a break...maybe 5 mph more at best
_"COMPLETELY different after contact, the face of the racket turns toward the side fence...20MPH more, give me a break...maybe 5 mph more at best"_ -- No, at the *very end* you see the first serve again (6:04). This is probably a mistake.
There you go
Hello, in order to have a good aim aline the racket in a straight line with the arm, this makes you have to reach higher on the contact. So to turn the hand in with the arm you do this at the very last.
Thank you for very instructional video. I would like to know if this goes also for the 2nd serve (with kick and slice rotation) serve. Cheers.
I wouldn't think so as the racket doesn't go as much into the court, its more up. There is though some pronation on the kick and some topspin on the flat, just less, as far as I know...
He literally says ‘you should pronate on ALL your serves’
to hit the kick and slice serve you still pronate but instead of swinging towards the court your swing follows the baseline so that after you pronate the palm of your hand is facing the fence/wall behind you its tricky to explain it all in words cause there are other elements needed to achieving like where the contact point is and acknowledging the fact that the ball toss will be slightly different depending on whether you're hitting the kick serve or the slice serve but if you're only focusing on the arm (general consensus is the ball toss should be the same regardless of the type of serve but honestly that's a load of rubbish any coach that still teaches this are grossly misinformed and are not upto date with the modern game but to the untrained eye from the other side of the court all 5 types of serve when watching the ball toss will look very similar) short disclaimer there are actually 5 types of serve but most people only know, can do or teach 3 which are slice , kick and flat but there are 2 more which aren't commonly known and very few people can actually do it intentially
and what are those mysterious 2 types of serve called?
@@joakimster8431 Youu should pronate for ALL your serves
The very first drill made me understand the dynamics and ever since it’s like second nature. Does this happen on the second Serve as well ? Thank you for the video
Thank you for your comment. Yes, that would happen on both serves.
ima be the next big tennis player 😀
I’d like to add something which I saw Federer do when he is swinging his racket towards the ball with the edge.
Prior to the moment of contact, he swings the racket a few inches towards his right before striking the ball with
the racket full face to the ball and then pronating his arm/racket. This is done at the top by Federer and the instructor of this video as opposed to the roundhouse pronation swing the girl on the video is doing.
Not saying I will serve like the FED.. but I did get better pronation & serve without putting stress on my shoulder.
Yup. She's still unlearning years of muscle memory. Looks like she's got the concept though.👍
Not easy but excellent drill
I think they're both good. Do u want straight or swing? Speed or spin?
How is this ergonomically correct/doable when you're doing a topspin or slice serve? Or is this only for flat serves?
It's sure a helluva lot easier with flat serves, that's for sure. I think that in order to do it well with top spin, you probably have to arch your back more on the jump in order to compensate, however I could be wrong.
She's got it
It realy work mu serves is now best
I already had rotator cuff surgery, will this pronation affect me?
This was one of the first GREAT videos I saw on TVOT.
I now practice serving from trophy like part of your drill, served without a racket drop along time, now I am trying to do racket drop, was doing decent from trophy now when I drop racket struggling to get shoulder and elbow to do their part it is an isolated movement, I do great shadow swings where racket drops without trying to drop, I use a loose grip, relax arm but when I do a real serve i have to physicaly drop racket which makes it inconsistent any tips?
Well done, my only concern is pronation before contact, causing slice the other way, but basically good tip when executed properly.
John Richardson it pronates after it hits, watch again so no slice
Go frame by frame up to contact. When do full pronation, extension, and internal shoulder rotation occur? Now look at the pros with the best serves. Go frame by frame and ask the same questions.
Yup pronation is real important for the added speed...now let’s do a video on the the ball toss to add accuracy as the great rf did mention that the toss is THE key for a great serve 😬
My toss is complete garbage, that’s why my serve is so inconsistent. It’s such an underrated part of the serve
do you have to focus on hitting up on the ball too?
Im a 4.5-5.0 player I've been playing for 12 years but I don't pronate at all. Is it not awkward especially hitting slice serves on the deuce side?
Shoutout to Maria :)
Pronation is very natural for me if I hit a flat serve. However, when hitting a kick serve or slice serve, I don't know how to pronate. Can you give explanation how to pronate when putting spin on the ball when serving?
Are the serve and smash are same?
Oh I didn’t know you were a coach Sergey
What’s your microphone setup pls?
so is this only apply to flat serve?
what grip do you use?
Actually it does work..! Doesn't guarantee the accuracy, though. T-zone is very hard to reach, when you make a serve like that on your ad court (if you are right handed). And your shoulder tends to hurt.
That is ALOT of top spin.... wow, i need to use that
_"That is ALOT of top spin.... wow, i need to use that"_ -- Where do you see top spin here?! These are all flat serves.
Missed in the beginning of the video: what is that pronation of the hand and arm
Great video but I have a question: I have a serve form simiar to Andy Roddick. I bend my knees quite a lot and I hit the ball at the perfect timing at the sweet spot. But no matter how much I bend my knees my serve speed is always the same as if I just hit the ball without bending my knees. What should I do? Is there a specific reason why this happens? Btw I'm a 14 year old Korean boy who is small compared to others and is quite skinny. Could it be because of my weight?
Legs are less important on your serve than many may think. I have seen pros hit 110+ mph serves while kneeling on the ground. Proper swing technique is much more imprtant.
Nitish Sreeram Thx man
Is pronation occurring in all the serve types
