it was a movie exploring the idea of people who just pick people randomly and kill just for the thrill of it. It's loosely based of the manson murders and an incident when the director was young where a man came up and said "Is (insert name here) home" and then a bunch of people on his block were robbed.
i know, i was expecitng more torture, but i couldn't take it, all that build-up and the manner in which they died i was not expecting. my heart was beating fast throughout!! it was so sad. . .

I enjoyed The Strangers, because it was different to the majority of horror movies these days. Sure, had it's flaws. But overall the events felt almost realistic.
I totally agree with you! I am an AVID Horror film fan and I like many sub-genres, but I have grown "bored" of the torture porn and I loathe the Japenese-themed/ YAWN FESTS like "The Grudge." Lol...This film was so effective in that it built so much tension and fear. I admire the simplicity and I feel that Liv did such a GREAT job! =)
it was a very scary movie, this is the kind of movie where you don't know what's gonna happen next so you hold your breath on the edge of your seat, and then out of a sudden a creepy masked girl shows up, and you jump out of your skin, I watched the movie and it scared the shit out of me ... hands down

my friends and i watched the first half of this movie at three a.m. in a huge house with tons of windows,that made a ton of noise.all of my friends fell asleep with in the first 5 minutes,and i was just laying there,scared shitless.hahahahah but the next morning,when it was bright out,we all watched it together and it wasnt scary,,,,,at all.... so i guess it depends on the setting.
the strangers scared the shit out of me... maybe it's because i saw it when i was 14... but either way i was terrified, when they were banging on the windows.
I have seen most scary movies and it was well done. Lots of jumping and good music. It made you feel like this really did happen. Great mask's on the evil people!!!! Go and see it It was a good scary movie. If its not gorry enough see INSIDE movie!

The killers weren’t trying to kill specific people or for a reason , they just wanted to kill them just to kill them, that’s why they were toying with them throughout the movie. So if they weren’t home then obviously the killers wouldn’t kill them and just move on to the next door neighbor

i would say that the movie itself wasn't all that scary, BUT the idea that someone is in your home...wearing freaking masks...and ready to kill you without a thought..that scares the crap outta me!!! i couldn't get into my car afterwards without checking the backseat..and now at night, i get freaked out in my own home...THAT was what made it all worth watching!!!

scott usually hae this gift of make himself look hippy and not in a good way. but he looks so hot in the movie and in this interview. liv tyler is stunning but she doesnt have good fashion sense. and like scott, she has this real gift of downgrade her natural beauty. i wish live would take cues from natalie portman or uma thurman.
