    As far as i'm concerned Shining Force is one of the best series of games ever made, And the fact that Camelot isn't making them anymore is insane.
    I know they make other Shining games but i want the Tactical stuff not all that other junk heh. Maybe someday will get an actual Force game. Ain't holding my breath tho.

      I recommend Unicorn Overlord, its strategy RPG published by Sega.

    Nice to see the Mega CD getting some airtime, sometimes its the subtle enhancements that make all the difference in the presentation in comparison to the MD versions. Greatly enjoyed watching through, nice work.

      Ha, yeah it's a little jarring if you were used to the prior Shining Force games and didn't know about the changes in this one.

    It is weird how the youtube algorithm works. I have watched nothing SF related, yet it suggests this video to me. Just so happens to be one of my favorite RPG series of all time, and you got a new subscriber! So I guess the algorithm isn't ALWAYS evil.

    I agree with your points, let's say that the Game Gear originals are brilliant for the hardware and while a big upgrade was made for the Sega CD, it could have used the hugely expanded storage to become something so much more polished, with many more frames of animation for the characters, full screen battle backgrounds and even adding towns, if they really wanted. As for the soundtrack, are you sure it is Redbook Audio? I always thought these tunes were using the extra channels of the Sega CD sound chip, alongside with the Mega Drive one, I didn't know these are actual audio files, so I'm not sure.
    I did play the GG originals first and indeed, the upgraded visuals feel much like Super Mario All-Stars, and like you said, since Final Conflict was released in 1995, it would have been much better if the Sega CD version waited for that, or even better, they could have waited and make a full remake for the Saturn. Do you know about Mahou Gakuen Lunar? This is a remake of the Game Gear Lunar title for the Saturn, if they released the Shining Force Collection for the Saturn in the same upgraded manner, featuring all Genesis and Game Gear ones in one or two discs, that would have been huge, then, Shining Force III would shine even brighter, in my opinion. Similar remakes were released for the Saturn with the Falcom Classics collection, as well.
    The Sega CD version is still amazing, no matter what, but it really it didn't reach its full potential, at all.

      100% sure it's redbook audio. You can put the game's CD into any CD player and the songs will play just fine. There are a couple of FM jingles when you so things like promote characters, revive dead characters or save the game. The Sega CD's PCM audio chip, which was used in Lunar II for example, has a very low sample rate and you wouldn't ever mistake it for CD audio.
      I do wish they had waited and included Final Conflict, but at least that one is a bit different story wise, which you'll see later this month!
      And yup, well aware of the GG/Saturn Lunar game and the Falcom remakes. I was going to do a video on Saturn Ys last year to celebrate the newer fan translation, played it and recorded footage of the whole game. But I decided to hang onto it for another video that I'm going to do later this year instead.

    For someone who's not been much into RPGs but has both MD Mini consoles, would you say this is a good entry point into the saga?

    • @InglebardGaming
      @InglebardGaming  Před 5 měsíci +1

      Well, I can see the answer to that from two perspectives. It's a good entry point in that the games are shorter and simpler than the main games, but you're not getting the same experience because it lacks the town and map exploration the series is known for.
      They're fun games, definitely, but for a fuller Shining Force experience, you might want to start with the second game on the Genesis instead, which is also on the original mini.
