Synchro format was fondly looked upon because Konami just didn't care and reprinted the good synchros in tins the same month their packs came out in.
They just straight up put goyo, stardust, and black rose as guaranteed promos in tins within months of their pack release.
The equivalent is like if they put accesscode as a promo.

Paul was right about just about everything he was talking about, and I've seen what he was saying when watching many other CZcamsrs who make Yu-Gi-Oh videos. We all love the game, but there's lots of complaints about the format, cards people don't like vs ones they do, problem cards that create an ungodly meta, etc. it's just the way the game goes. One moment you're struggling, then they try to fix it by adjusting the banlist to hit problem cards. But of course Konami has to still make money so some things won't see a full ban. Gotta take the good with the bad when playing this game.

I love how goyim always race to defend konamis profit margins. Its weird how the entire videogame industry (or at least the praised parts of it) are able to spend years developing videogames with gigantic hundred million dollar budgets and you still see them release them as 60e purchases, whereas konami just magically """"needs""" to make infinite profit off of printing RNG cardboard in boosters every month

honestly at this point, yugioh feels like its on life support. every new set that comes out has to be more OP than the last set. This leads to tons of Tier 0 formats in the last few years and the game becomes very "same-y". Everyone plays the best engines or archetype because they are OP and nothing more. In the past, it didn't feel like this and Tier 0 formats were far and few in between all the sets.

Idk about this one. As much as I agree that in their respective formats decks like Snake eye and Kash absolutely dominate the big tournaments, there’s PLENTY of other decks that can perform. My locals has like a 30% snake eye turnout and everybody else plays what they like… which to me just feels like people hate losing the game for any reason. Every deck in this game has an annoying win condition, including the “fun” decks.

The wide variety of decks you could play and still make it somewhere competitively made locals and regional so very fun. The big three were ba, shaddoll, and tellarknight, but the balance of the game at the time meant that even rogue decks were valid. I'll keep saying it and I'm not gonna stop, the problem with yugioh isn't that it's a bad game. The problem is that the banlist is run by konami and that the game's future success is reliant on that banlist being run by konami. The game would improve if the fans could miraculously work out a banlist together but in practice that's also a really difficult thing to work on.

The state of the game is like the "boiling frog". It starts pretty cold and raw but warms up slowly as the game gains identity and slowly gets faster, stronger, more consistent, and more complex. Eventually it reaches a pretty good temperature but if you keep going it goes past it. You eventually are near boiling point and the long time frogs inside have tried to adapt and not noticed things go past "fine". They wonder why new frogs find it hard or not appealing to jump into the pot when it's already bubbling up on scalding. Frogs that realize things are different inside might mention it and want to get the temperature back down, only to be told if you change it too much you might as well just go look for other pots or whatever because they clearly no longer like this pot.
Yugioh being the pot here. If you can adjust parts of the pot to your liking (like custom or time wizard formats) and you have people to play with, and you feel you still like the game, please don't quit. I think nothing's wrong with liking other forms of the game. I understand changes are needed but at some point you could argue it is a very slow bait and switch compared to the version of the game that originally hooked you ("you" the reader of the post), so please don't let yourself be shamed by "boomer" labels or petitions to just adapt to a version that is more overbearing and hyperconsistent than it is fun.

An idea to fix it is to completely cut off an era, or change the core rules of the game.
Like what they did with the Master Rules to nerf Pendulums. The game was really on the brink during peak pend era. Then, they changed the rules and it created a sort of soft reset, or rollback of speed and power, to an extent.
They may need to do the same yet again.
Or, do something drastic, where they essentially "start over" with a brand new format, with a brand new massive release of cards, starting with moderate power levels (perhaps comparable to Edison format, due to its popularity). They say "Hey, you can play advanced, but the newest format is *insert name* and that will be the primary format where we will be giving our prizing, support and running our tournaments". It would be risky, but something they may do if numbers and sales do eventually decline.

I've been playing since about 2017 with friends consistently but even I did take a break during covid and the peak of tribrigade through swordsoul's main lifespan with BODE I tried to play a bit but none of the decks I had post Rise of the Duelist could really keep up and I was just getting blindsided by so much like adamancipator, VW, Dogmatika, Tri Brigade, etc. I play a lot again NOW but even looking back, covid decks were just messed up. Swordsoul was really the only "fair" one when IO and Protos were around, I think that speaks to that sentiment.

I stopped playing at locals around the time HAT was the rage, but saw my best enjoyment of the game around Shining Darkness and my Infernity Deck at full power. I do, to this day, keep up with news and some new cards just in case I ever want to play again (I have Runick Stun and Dogmatika Ritual decks, I actually did use the Runick deck and was banned from playing it against my friends ever since). For me, the "Good Ol' Days" is just any time I was able to sit down and play a game, enjoying the back and forth and it wasn't just a 1-2 turn game and actually being able to PLAY (less floodgates, people were able to make their bosses and you had answers in the form of something like Lightning Vortex, Bottomless, Compulse, etc not just negating every card they play before they have a chance to play it and heavy negates had drawbacks, like Light and Darkness Dragon, Rai-oh, or Doomcalibur Knight as an example). People bash older Yugioh for being slow or whatev, but just like our media in the current day, the fact that lots of people want that instant gratification of winning from your initial hand of 5 cards, which Konami is fully supportive of as long as they get their $$$, has gotten way too crazy imo.

Less than some, it was still fairly inconsistent at times and you'd have to scramble to get over a brick hand or hope your top-decks were feelin' spicy that day. I know some people have PTSD from it, but it wasn't close to tier 0 like decks today. You could still have some good back-and-forth's at the time. If a deck needs to be tier 0 to be busted then I guess the dragon rulers and sprights were never a problem as they were never tier 0

It's not going to pull through as well as a top dollar meta deck, but no matter how unfun you consider the current meta, you can 100% build a deck that's even less fun to play against. There's a ton of arguments to be made about this practice and it's impact on the health of the game, but I've become kinda jaded to it. If prioritizing winning over fun is accepted, I feel just as validated prioritizing the hardship of my opponent over fun.

I think one of the quick fixes could be banning all easy to summon monsters with negations, especially hand traps and omni negates.
Losing a game is already not fun for most people, but watching your opponent play with his deck for himself, for 10 minutes and often more, just to end up with you not being able to play at all. That is not just a loss, it is a complete waste of time you and the game is not really a two man game anymore, its a singleplayer game with a spectator.
And I think, that is the biggest problem with Yugioh.
Because it ends up being a two man solitare, where 1 person plays the game and have fun, while the other person just watches/sleeps/goes out for lunch, and sees he cant do anything, when his/her turn finally comes around.
Monsters with strong protections like Ultimate Falcon can be beaten over by monsters with higher ATK points and annoying trap cards like Skill Drain can be destroyed or banished by spell/Trap card effects. But hand traps and omni negates can be almost impossible to play around, when your opponent have 6-7 of them each turn.
I actually don't think people would hate Skill Drain so much, if they could just use their MST, Twin twister or Harpies Duster to destroy it, (it would properbly still be annoying as fuck, but at least less annoying, when you get the chance to actually do something about it). But when its there and you cant do anything, then it gets truly annoying.
I can still laugh when I lose to getting my entire field destroyed by Raigeki, Dark Hole or Mirror Force, because I at least got a turn and the chance to try and do something.
It backfired... Horribly and I lost the game big time, but at least I played.
And thats kinda my point, that if everything you try to do as the second player gets negated by monsters on the field, or a Ash Blossoms from the hand, before you even get a chance to get into the game at all, the game just not fun to "play".
I don't think all negations or hand traps should be completely removed from the game, do not mistake me here. But I think they should be limited to only be on trap cards, because they are slower, they are meant to be "TRAPS" and they can be either destroyed, banished, returned to the hand or deck by other effects (I know you can activate some of them in response, like the Solemns to the effect, but you still lose the card most of times, if you do so).
And maybe negations could also be on some really hard to summon boss monsters like Shooting Quasar Dragon, that you cant really use and fit into all decks. Like you can with Baronne De Fleur or Borreload Savage Dragon.
And hand traps like Nibiru The Primal Being, Battlefader or Juragedo, that either slows down your opponent or boosts or protects yourself or your monsters, are also fine in my book.
It both slows the game down and it gives both players a chance to play.
And that is what I truly think, that Yugioh needs right now, especially if Konami wants new players to get into the game and stay :)
