He is truly an amazing artist. Best intro to Ren is HI Ren. If you want to see him flex his rap skills check out the Hunger. Ren fighting for #1 in UK this week! It will be a victory over his years of chronic physical and mental illness. He has spent all this year in treatments for Chronic misdiagnosed Lyme disease, ME, addhd,ptsd and now MCAD. And still he accomplished this! And also lifts others up with him and fosters a close relationship with his fans. You won't regret getting to know him.
Technically 2 takes... he cuts when the camera goes behind the wheelchair... Ren's independent so they didn't have a huge budget and he only has the 1 suit... (they also had to move the mic from his lapel to his tie to waterproof it). Ren performed this live, over and over, to get a good take. This is after 15 tries (in an interview Ren said more than 15 less than 30...lol.) Ren is different... he is a musician, an actor, a producer, a poet and surprisingly with all that... he comes across as a good man.... he has music in almost every genre... Ren is just Ren.

If you check out the position of his tie before and after the camera spins around him, you see the position change. Does not take away from the art though. Such a journey in such a short time.
If you want to see what kind of person Ren is watch his 1 millions subscribers video. You should also know that he spent half his life almost sick being misdiagnosed with Lyme disease. In the years of treatment before they found out his real problem the medication gave him psychosis with a whole slew of other problems.

Here is some additional information on Ren's story that I gathered from old newspaper interviews, articles, and Ren's public livestreams and posts. A handful of people frequently post an earlier version of my comment to various reactions that they copied and pasted verbatim, so if this is a repeat just ignore this comment. I keep editing the information, as needed, and have removed details about Ren that some found to be too personal, such as his full name and D.O.B. All the information here was gathered exclusively from sources Ren personally approved for public release.
Ren is a British musician/independent artist/producer, self-taught multi-instrumentalist; originally from Wales. Ren pursued a career in music from an early age. In 2009, while studying music performance at Bath Spa University, Ren began to experience health issues and was struggling to attend his lectures, which eventually caused him to discontinue his studies and return home. In addition, Ren was signed by Sony Records in 2010 and was working on an album when his health deteriorated to the point that he was unable to go on; consequently, his contract with Sony was dissolved. Ren would later relocate to Brighton.
Ren's illness often kept him in bed for up to 23 hours daily. Ren was initially misdiagnosed with depression, bipolar disorder, and chronic fatigue syndrome, which led him to experience psychosis and develop PTSD. It would take seven years before a doctor in Belgium finally correctly diagnosed Ren with autoimmunity, Lyme disease, and resulting damage to the brain, organs, joints, and PTSD. Ren eventually underwent stem cell therapy in the United States, which improved his health, but it has not been a cure.
Ren is in Calgary, Canada for at least six months (Summer of 2023), undergoing treatments such as IV therapy and other interventions five days a week, as well as surgeries (wisdom tooth removal and cavitation surgery). His Canadian doctor discovered that Ren also developed a condition called Mast Cell Activation Disorder (MCAD), which has affected the myelin sheath in his brain, his thyroid, and adrenals as well as his bones/joints. Hence, Ren is receiving additional treatments for this previously undiagnosed condition. He recently took a break from treatments and returned to the UK to visit family and friends, and to produce some very ambitious musical projects to be released soon.

You need to watch parts 1 and 2 and also check k his other stuff He is self produced. Writes the music and lyrics and choreographed the video all himself. All whilst being under stem cell treatment in Canada for a debilitating disease he had for years. Hes a genius in the truest sense. He is Welsh.
For some odd reason he makes me feel like a proud parent when I watch him even though we are of no relation. The only two artists I've ever talked up like this are Ren and NF. Ren's one-of-a-kind. Yes, he's independent and does it all in many genres - he sings/raps/beat boxes, plays multiple instruments, produces his own beats, and creates his videos (often with videographer Samuel Perry-Falvey, often live, often one-takes). While he's still sick, he's not usually bedridden anymore. He spent a lot of time - years - reading, philosophizing, writing, composing, practicing, listening, and playing games. He's mad talented, and you never know what you're going to hear on a Ren track - deep and melodic or fast and fun. "Hi Ren" is autobiographical and a great introduction. Shout out to Samuel Perry-Falvey, the cinematographer on this video. He and Ren are mates, and collaborate together frequently.
Ren is Welsh, but his home is in Brighton, on the south coast of England. He is an independent artist. He had a record deal quite young but was cut down with a mystery illness that was diagnosed years later as Lyme disease. He is receiving treatment for it in Canada at the moment.
If you're interested to see what kind of person Ren is, I'd recommend you check out his 1 million subscribers video. He's also done a number of interesting interviews this year. He has a really positive relationship with reactors here on CZcams. Because he hasn't been able to tour in the usual way because of his health, he is only now starting to get the kind of recognition he deserves. His fanbase started growing hugely after the release of Hi Ren last December. It's a really important track for you to check out, truly a masterpiece. Another important work of his is the Tale of Jenny and Screech. Watch the 13 minute long video with all three interwoven stories in this trilogy together in one sitting. You'll be blown away.
Ren's new album Sick Boi dropped this week. It's over an hour long with 18 songs, and absolutely no filler. Ren was in a band called The Big Push. They did a lot of busking together, covering well known songs and also wrote some excellent original songs. He's also done great collaborations with Sam Tompkins, Chinchilla, and Eden Nash, amongst others.

I like how you mentioned how he can't tour like a musician usually would. It's a critical piece of the puzzle, and helps explain why The Big Push didn't get bigger than they were (as well as why Ren was so intent on documenting his busking performances - solo, collabs, and with The Big Push - in videos with such blindingly high-quality audio). He's a performer who couldn't commit to a schedule, no matter HOW good the material & his performances were.

Ren does everything his self, 100% independently, mixes his own beats, he can sing, rap, act, speak multiple languages, play at least 8 instruments, all self taught from busking on the streets of Brighton. He grew up very sick with undiagnosed lyme disease - no money, divorced parents, he spent years in bed and is now in Canada being treated.
He was signed to a big label but couldn't keep up with his label obligations due to his debilitating illness they told him was everything but lyme and over medicated him into psychosis. See his video Hi Ren , its him during this time. Ren does all one takes and his friend Sam is the camera man. To see what Sam and Ren can do with great lyrics, a camera and no money check out the tales of jenny and Screech (3 songs must be watched as 1) it's amazing.....then to completely blow your mind watch his busking session with his band the big push. Technically Ren doesn’t have an acting background, but he is a master storyteller and creative visionary. He’s done several videos in the “Bardcore” storyteller style, such as the Tale of Jenny & Screech (trilogy) and Money Game 1. They were all filmed live. He’s also working with the videographer Samuel Perry-Falvey on a pilot to pitch to Netflix, which would be incredible!
This could easily be adapted into a full stage production! It’s a masterpiece. He also composed the piano and string orchestration. It adds so much to the performance! This was the first video they actually had a budget to produce. Everything else you will watch was put together on virtually nothing, just creativity and passion for the art.

I’m sure some other RENegade will give you details on his background with being misdiagnosed for years until he was finally diagnosed with Lyme disease that had caused serious damage while gone untreated. Also as others have suggested, watching his 1m subscribers video on defining success is a very good introduction to the beautiful human being behind the art.
As for his music… there are honestly no bad picks. The man is just insanely talented across all genres. Though it is pretty much a must to check out Hi Ren. I would also recommend one of my personal favourites: Crutch feat. Bibi. It’s an older song from before he finally got correctly diagnosed and was written after a breakdown following multiple emergency trips to the hospital. It is heart wrenching but absolutely stunning.

Welcome down the Ren Gill rabbithole. Became recognized across the pond with Hi Ren but has a big collection of music from many genres, also with his previous group The Big Push. He's receiving treatment for Lyme Disease in Canada at the moment and spent years 23 out of 24 hours in his bed with chronic pain and thought he was going to die, as he had been misdiagnosed and treated for various mental disorders. I'd start with Hi Ren then Chalk Outlines and How to be Me with Chinchilla. This guy is a genius and is a multi instrumentalist and creates his own beats for many rap hits. If your into rap the Hunger will give you an idea of his versality rapping.

Ren is great at practically everything, although people like to pick him on him for not being able to play basketball (Losing It-Fischer Retake) and box (Murderer). But those things show he *is* human, and those songs are absolute fire! Welcome to the rabbit hole! You can't go wrong with anything from his catalog.
omg I love this comment! I wouldn't know a good boxer from a fence post, but I *love* that he shows us the stuff he's Not That Great At, actually (because he's so ridiculously good at so many other things). Like, particularly for Murderer... no way he *didn't* know he was showing off how "bad" he is at boxing (if he himself didn't know, *someone* involved would have mentioned it even with it being a small cast & crew), but the murderer being a boxer is what he wanted for the storyboard of the video so he did it anyway.
Great reaction. You definitely jumped right into the proverbial deep end of the Ren pool. Money Game Part 3 is, in my opinion, Ren’s best work to date, and the bar he previously set was already incredibly high to begin with. It is an amazing and thought-provoking piece of performance art. Ren composed the music, wrote the lyrics, and produced this masterpiece. At the beginning of Jimmy’s life, “one year old and his first words were’ mine, mine, gimme’; two years, old he was walking; three years old, walking quickly; four years old he was running around the pavement of his city. Then, “40 years old, and he cursed the words ‘mine, mine, gimme’; 41, he wasn’t walking; 42, not walking quickly; 43, never running around the pavement of his city.” ROM (@ROMsquad) during their reaction pointed out the irony that Jimmy was focused on chasing wealth and fame only to lose his ability to run as a result.
This wasn't a total one-take but two separate one-takes. The video was a one-take up to the wheelchair getting turned around. They had to cut there in order to prepare for the rain scene in the end. It could only be done once because Ren only had this one suit and his pants were about to get soaked. Moreover, the lavalier mic needed to be moved from his jacket lapel to his red tie and covered to keep it from getting wet.

Welcome to the world of Ren. The Ren community is amazing and supportive. Ren encourages people working together and solving issues, and really sending out positive messages! It's hard not to get sucked in when you realise the whole story. Problem is, you can lose many many hours of your life getting obsessed. Despite bringing out some pretty hardcore rap stuff, he's appealing across generations (I'm a middle age woman), and across the world. He loves his reactors, he knows that reaction vids are a big part of this new age of promotion, where artists can be fully independent and not broken down by big music corporations. Glad you loved this piece, it's really fantastic, isn't it? :D

I always recommend watching his 1 million follower speech on YT to understand where he comes from/who he is. Not only is he an incredible artist, but he's an incredible human! Ren will be your guide on an exceptional journey, if you’d let him. A word of caution for new reactors, however, he’s been fucking through it. Like, realllllllly through it. And his fans are fiercely protective of him. As you react, it’s okay not to like things, but try to remain respectful. He’s earned it - and if you don’t, the fans will probably take you to school 🤣 with that being said, don’t take any negative comments (there’s always a few: you missed this, you were wrong about that) to heart. His new album 'Sick Boi' came out on Thursday and is currently at #2 in the UK, physical copies all sold out but the vinyl.
If you want to e-meet Ren, he is more-or-less once a week on Twitch at @renmakestwitch . Usually when there is a release of new songs, and in 2023 he released 17 music videos, so that happened roughly every other week lately. Often on a Thursday.
Just in case he jumps straight to Sherrif/Zion/Hip Hop, I'm gonna elaborate on your (red suspenders) comment.
The Big Push has more than one video of busking I Shot the Sherrif on their channel (and Ren has other videos of it solo too).
For the CRAZIEST experience of it, make sure you watch the version where Ren is wearing red suspenders in the thumbnail.
Last I knew, the version that has a thumbnail where Ren has bleached hair and is wearing an oversized shirt had more views, so some reactors get fooled into picking that one (in fact, it's just that it's been up on CZcams longer)... it's a damn good performance, but it doesn't include all of the songs that are mashed up so incredibly in the Red Suspenders Ren version, and Ren wasn't as blindingly electric that day as he was for the red suspenders session.

I second the notion that any of the "I Shot The Sheriff" versions are 🔥, and so is everything The Big Push and Ren have uploaded on YT. The one I mentioned in not so many words is just the one the renegades (ren fans) prefer YT reactors to react to first. And that boosts their channels and in the end helps Ren get more attention.

It was one make up to just about when you stopped to ask. The break is when the camera was behind the wheelchair. They filmed the first part, then rehearsed the last part until they had it time with the camera and hand signals to the musicians perfected because they could only drop the water once, no time to dry the building out and get his suit dried and pressed.
Ren is unique, he dropped an entire album last week, slightly more than half have video released since last December. Check it all out.

Ren composes, directs, acts, sings, raps, spoken word poetry, script writer, master lyricist, kick-ass guitarist and 'not bad' pianist!
Ren is creating new Street / On-line Theatre. And yes, .mostly all in one takes and on a shoestring budget. He IS the Modern Bard. "Jeeeeze Ren! Leave some talent for the rest of us!" Is the cry now echoing across the globe. But beyond his genre-skipping immensely creative talent, Ren is, at heart, a story-teller, and a powerful social commentator. One who does not avoid the raw tough topics. Indeed, he seeks them out. He says; "HEY! LOOK at this. We need to notice - to care - to fix what is broken in ourselves, in our societies."
Ren is connecting with a LOT of people - and connecting others. AND after years of battling ill health he's starting to come out and about and rise. Ren is just getting STARTED!

Nice review! Check out Money Game 1 too. There's much more to Ren, as you'll see from his work with The Big Push, as well as his back catalog of music and videos with other UK artists...the talent goes deep (Chinchilla, Romain Axisa, and Sam Tompkins, to name a few.)

He is from Wales, but moved to Brighton after his best friend, unalived himself by jumping off of a bridge. Ren was bitten by a tick and for the next 10 years he was missed diagnosed as having a mental disorder when he actually had Lyme’s disease. They prescribed him so many of the wrong medication’s that he developed psychosis. He is currently in Canada trying to reverse some of that damage medically. So now he makes his music to bring awareness to mental illness, violence and world corruption. Don’t get me wrong. He definitely does songs just for fun without any deep meaning. He is a genre bender. He’s also excellent doing live street performances with his band called The Big Push. Be careful you might become a Renegade with the rest of us. If you want more of his storytelling, then definitely do the Tale of Jenny and Screech (full version). People call it bardcore. Some of his deeper songs are Chalk Outlines, How to be Me, and For Joe. If you want to see him rap, then I would suggest The Hunger, Genesis, Power, Losing it, Fisher Retake and Murderer. Definitely check out money game part one and two.

Ren is a Welsh performing artist who has been Street performing from his early days. He had a recording contract with a company until they found out that he had Lymes Disease .a bug bit him, and he was misdiagnosed until he finally went to Canada to sort out his treatment. As approaching my 70th Birthday I can say in all honesty that is the nothing but one of the finest performer in recent years to show that he and his team are nothing but. The best.welsh flag

Ren and Samuel the film maker have been working together since they were kids in summer camp. The smart weird boy with a camera met a smart weird boy with a guitar and it's brought us to this.

I really liked your reaction. As you have probably found out by now, Ren has a lot of loyal fans. This was done by him and his buddies. He is independent and the vision, the lyrics, all the way down to the composing is all him. He did covers in his band, The Big Push, just released a hip hop/rap album, and Hi Ren and the Tales of Jenny and Screech, Money Game 1 and 2 are more like this. There's even a powerful video he released when he reached a million subscribers, and a Rap Battle / Diss track to dive into. It's a crazy fun ride. Welcome!

Ren is a force of nature! He can sing, rap, plays guitar, piano, makes his beats, does his own production. You have to check out hi Ren, sick boi, genesis,7 sins, chalk outlines, wicked ways, dive in ..a big catalogue with amazing bangers .I love him!!!

Ren has had some schooling, but not for long. The majority of his skills are self-taught because he has a passion. He started by making beats and selling CDs before he was even 13. He taught himself to rap/sing because he couldn't find anyone to front for him in the small town of Anglesey in Wales. He would watch CZcams videos of guitarists and slow them down to teach himself how to do the same techniques. He writes the music, he writes the lyrics, he comes up with the concepts and directs the videos.
And he does all this as an artist dedicated to being completely independent of the record labels. Originally signed by Sony in his teens, he had to get out of the contract when he got too sick to record, but they allowed him to keep the rights for all of the music he'd produced during that time. He's had a much more negative experience more recently and has written them off entirely at this point. Despite all of that, Sick Boi came out as the #1 album in the UK and it hit the top of the Apple Music charts here in the US as well.
This album was an exercise to do an entire LP of rap/hiphop. He's said that his next will be more rock, and he already has several tracks written and ready to go.
