I grew up getting my ass beat every day for not being black. I almost died more times than I had years, but I have long since passed that. I attribute that to doing the opposite, to understand and deal with violence be violence. Glad I lived long enough to move, as while that choice increased my odds it's still a bad idea.

(They really thought they lost everything) -But then they would realize that it wasn't a malicious hacker just a cruel joke from a questionable friend and they get that extreme relief upon realizing their belonging are still on their account) xD Good Times

You're likely getting burned out with that many hours, no matter how bright or motivated you are. Also, since you're struggling w/ attention in school but riveted by these lectures, maybe reconsider if your major really aligns well with your interests and personality (although burnout can sometimes cloud that). For me this semester, withdrawing just one class (which I've never done before) changed my whole mindset, from dragging my miserable self through the semester to being back on the ball, positive and motivated. Good luck to you.

I agree that kids should be raised socially well-adapted and bold, but they should still be taught caution, such as not opening doors to strangers, especially without even asking who is behind the door; and just general common sense, such as not following adults who are bigger and stronger into areas where they can easily corner and overpower you.
I agree that people here tend to take it into extremes both ways. I grew up in a different country, and played with others and by myself mostly unsupervised since the time I was four, and that was despite the fact that in that place and during those times it was a _very_ real danger to get kidnapped off the streets. That's why I was taught to be cautious around adults I did not know, and such an upbringing did help me (as a kid) on a few occasions. Though I guess that feeling intimidated by strangers, and simply being wary of them until you are sure that their intentions aren't malicious are two different things. Just because you are cautious about approaching strangers who are bigger and stronger than you, it does not mean that you will therefore be timid and shy about it if they actually try to hurt you.

His little segment about kids and strangers hit home real hard. As a 90s kid, Stranger Danger was drilled into and how I should be very scared about leaving my dads side(Meanwhile he was a mostly free range kid growing up). Survived my early childhood with no threats, Only to enter my teenage years and find out the hard way that its not strangers who I should be concerned about, its those closest to me.
And that danger would come in the form of one of my friends at 13 years old. Took many years to get over that trauma.

I was a 90's kids, too. We played outside passed the streetlights turning on. We would built shafty ramps and jumped them with our boards, scooters and rollerblades. We built makeshift wrestling rings and body slammed each other, giving the kid on the ground the people's elbow. Yeah, we were taught to be careful, don't talk to strangers and what not, but from what I experienced, we were free range as you would put it. It's funny because crime is down today compared to than. The streets are literally safer. I'm starting to get a feeling this is a "back in my day" type of deal.
@@TheSonOfDumb My friend decided that he wanted to experiment sexually with me the rough way. So somehow between watching and getting absorbed into porn, as well as becoming a horny teenager, he made the leap in logic that rape was the move to make( probably from porn I bet).
As a result, I spent nearly a decade traumatized and very confused. Coupled with being Autistic it turns out and having suffered from other kids never really socializing with me. You can see how this would seriously fuck a person up. Thankfully I got over my trauma and had made a good group of friends by my late teens and early 20s, which really helped me grow out of that void of misery I call my teenage years. Today you wouldnt know I was traumatized by that or had a serious lack of social skills when I was younger, And I'm fine with talking about it. I think the only real damage it did was it made me bi.

Beginning of 27 years working in prison i fell for a lot of cons from the psychos, but after 20 some years I was a black belt in seeing through people. Working with these guys for over 8 hours a day, 27 years is an experience not even Jordan Peterson can rival.

I had an old boss who I’m convinced was a psychopath. His father in law owned the business so he was immune from any repercussions. He made us erect a 15 foot iron gate to keep anyone from entering our department and it was chained and only he had a key. I realised slowly that something was very wrong with him but when it did click he knew I knew instantly and he fired me.

Transport them into a situation where they can act with complete impunity, and they will turn into monsters. If you've ever seen the show Westworld, this is illustrated beautifully. Or if you've ever played any sort of RPG video game. Sometimes when people are free to act without restriction or judgement, the true "them" emerges.
SSPspaz Everyone who goes to Westworld doesn't see the androids there as human, the premise of the show is some of the androids begin exhibiting freewill because they are such advanced systems. The humans who go to Westworld exhibit a lack of intelligence is all, it isn't the psychopathy you think many would do as they want if there were no consequences because they don't see the androids as human, the same applies to open world and RPG games, people are fully aware these are not real humans and things.

2) Where does Peterson claim that psychopathy is a good thing? In my experience, most of his lectures warn against psychopathic and sociopathic behaviors. A clinician who encourages pathological behaviors wouldn't be a very good clinician haha

As for Westworld, I'm quite aware of the show's premise. Of course the guests don't view the hosts as human, but that's ultimately irrelevant. Westworld exists solely as a means for people to act out their fantasies - noble, moral, psychopathic, or otherwise. For some, it is a "safe" outlet for them to practice their underlying psychopathies. The same goes for open world RPGs and sandbox games like GTA.
Do violent video games create mass shooters and serial killers? Of course not. But are people who exhibit such antisocial behaviors in their fantasies (whether in their minds, in Westworld, or in a video game) more likely to be sociopaths or psychopaths in real life? Certainly! Many serial killers for instance, begin by fantasizing in their minds. Eventually they move on to torturing and killing animals. But it's never enough. Eventually, they must move on to human victims because they become obsessed with their power to inflict suffering and end life.
So are all the guests in Westworld psychopaths? Of course not. Neither is everyone who's ever played GTA or Red Dead. But do such experiences provide an outlet for people who have deep-seated issues? Absolutely.

What is most horrifying about meeting and befriending a psychopath, is that once you start realizing they’re psychopaths and try to call them out on their behavior towards you, they know exactly how to make you feel like the bad guy and turn the table on you. You have to learn to be smarter than them in that moment or down then line eventually in order to rise above their argumentative/manipulative nature.

i know this sort of behaviour from experience......the trick, ironically is, to become a bit a psychopath yourself to take rigourous measures without blinking. Thinking you could ever be smarter than the person running the game you will lose every time. Even if you figure out the rules to the game it's not the only one your playing, and I'm the one who makes the rules anyways so they can change at any time. I do my best not to be that person anymore, but people like me in general are like this and it's hard to change. I have to question everything I do.

I have known at least two major psychopaths and got drawn in, and what amazes me is how great I thought they were in the beginning. They go to enormous lengths to build themselves up and most people around them don't have a clue and refuse to believe anything bad about them. But once you have them pegged every move of theirs is obvious and you can't believe you were sucked into their world.

I really think schools should have lessons like this. Maybe some already do...but I know the schools around here don't. I think it would have such an impact on people as they're growing up. The same goes for communication...lessons on communication with each other I think would be so beneficial.

If I knew I could get away with it I for sure would have given on to some of the impulsive thoughts when I've gone through the most stressing moments of my life. I'm sure anyone who has been bullied like I was had the thought of killing their bully to get it over with, because suicidal thoughts aren't the only option, homicidal thoughts are a posibility, but of course we have the filters before we act, and consider the moral impacts and punishments to face after acting upon those ideas. So yes, and it's been proven by experiments, people who are otherwise "good" will still commit the most heinous acts if they are made to believe they can get away with it or it's being socially accepted by their peers.

I was almost $100,000 in debt I lost everything went through a nasty divorce I had absolutely nothing to live for and I’m now in the best financial position by far I’ve ever been in and I also found my soulmate. Jordan is truly inspirational and a man of men!! As a young kid I always pictured politicians judges and policeman in this light. For some reason I had the notion this is what good people do and say yet we have none of that in our political realm and most of the law-enforcement is horrendous..

I'm not sure about the fine distinction between sociopaths and psychopaths but I grew up with a father who's in this category and also a mother who was a narcissist . Once you understand them then you can spot them from a mile away - my only advice is to put distance between yourself and someone with this type of personality disorder .

Very good lecturer. He uses both social and biological (evolutionary) examples to reinforce his points.
It might simply be his method of speaking, but Professor Peterson seems like some of the things he says occur to him just as he's about to say them. His tone of voice, the way he interrupts himself mid-sentence, even his body language, they all lend a certain honesty and earnestness to his performance. It's as if he's just come to a revelation that he wants to share, rather than delivering prepared material.
Come to think of it, he'd probably make a great psychopath. (Joking)

I think the reality is that a significantly high percentage of the population (>20-25%) have clear psychopathic characteristics buat they dont have enough of these characteristics to actually be classified as a psychopath. The problem here is that we try to label things instead of thinking about them as a spectrum. For example, you seem to read body language very well and can extract a lot of info from subtle movements. That's one trait a psychopath has to have. It doesnt make you a psychopath but it does technically put you one step closer. I think that a lot of people have some of these traits but arent full blown and therefore still fit well into society. Some might be charming and manipulative but guilty and remorseful of their actions. Others might be impulsive and egotistical but not good at reading their audience.
Jordan seems to be "performing" (generally a psychopath would be a good actor or performer because they know how to present something in a dramatic way) but does that make him a psychopath? Who knows and who fucking cares. Its just a classification and whenever we try to put people into groups we make personalities seem more black and white then they are.

I do agree, and found I had used to have a very similar lecturing style when teaching. Reflecting upon this, one prepares the talk, and sketches out the key points. But then the subconscious brain fills the points up with stories, and thus you do get this talk that bounces over the place, interrupts itself.
But the upside is that it is highly engaging as it is based around stories, and people remember and are impacted by them. It in my opinion is the best way to lecture, if you are discussing conceptual material.
I used the word used to, because due to medication, and other things, I have lost the ability to be spontaneous and enthusiastic, but still use the basis, but script in the stories, and work the engagement in that way. So not bad, just not as wonderful as this.

I can confirm, I remember once getting the opportunity to blow up at one person for treating me poorly, and I COMPLETELY anihilated him. And moments after, I was questioning if I really was a good person or if I was just holding a facade. And it followed me for a full year. I now hope that whenever I get the opportunity to be powerful, I do it for good and not from resentment.

If you can take advantage of someone, that has to mean they have something useful to you. They way you interact with someone decided wether or not you can ever interact with them again. To interact with someone useful only once seems a terrible inefficient way of gaining something. Who is to say you cannot gain something from someone without ruining ta potential relationship. Psychopaths gain things in their own way, but never in a sustainable way. Some are successful, like other people, but many are quite miserable. If they care or not is a different story
Think light-side/ dark-side options in RPGs. Dark-side gives bigger, immediate boon - light-side gives smaller/ insignificant immediate boon, but pays off later.
Likewise, meeting someone and using them gives something immediately, but you also lose the ability to leech off of that person later on.

This is one of the reasons I wanted to study one of aspects of psychology. But over the years I figured out its far more complex then I thought it is and kinda gave up due my own mental health giving up on me. But on plus side I learned reading people up more or less giving myself advantage in social interactions which isn't that good as it sounds. People get scared easily
