The all-new Golf GTI is HERE!
Volkswagen’s mid-level sporty edition of the Mk8 Golf rolls up with all the classic hot hatch styling cues you’d expect, from the classic red striping across the bonnet (and throughout the cabin!) along with a more aggressive, honeycomb-style grille.
As for performance, well it’s certainly not too bad, as you’ll find a 2-litre turbocharged petrol engine that will deliver 245hp and 370Nm.
Sure, so it all sounds pretty good! The question is, does it really offer enough to sway you away from the competition? And more importantly, with the new Golf R already announced and just around the corner, are you better off just waiting for the GTI’s big brother?
There’s only one way to find out… Sit back, relax, and join Mat for his latest in-depth review!

@@1001ewaste Yeah the cost cutting is so bad I didn't even consider the new Golf when i was buying a new car at the end of 2019. The build quality and materials are worse than most of the competition, you can't spec a Golf with a 360 camera even as an option, the touch buttons and sliders used for everything are rubbish, there's no holder for sunglasses, and you need to go through like 2-3 menus in the infotainment to get to climate control (since there are no physical HVAC controls). They think people will buy it on the brand name and heritage alone, but no one I know likes the new Golf, I still haven't seen any on the road even though it's been out for a year in EU (and people love them here), and honestly it doesn't even look good anymore.

Well I got the Golf Mk8 myself. Had it for half a year now and it took me about month or so to get used to the AC controls etc. So yeah, you do adapt to it and learn how to use it smartly (so basically less). Audio controls? All steering wheel so that is a non-issue. VW has sent a few over the air updates now and the system is responsive now, maybe even snappy. So the laggy screen issue is also gone. But there is a key difference between this review and my Golf 8 'Style' trim. I got normal steering wheel buttons.
Like what the actual duck was VW thinking with that steering wheel. It looks great but the controls are terrible. And it seems to become a slight trend. Mercedes also does it now. And Tesla has no buttons on theirs. So I am guessing we'll see it more in the future. EVEN HYUNDAI is moving away from buttons in their new Tucson. So yeah....

Bought new Gti in november, so far no issues. Touch sensitive controls work seamlessly, you need to figure it out at first, everything works perfect. I had 7.5 GTD, mark 8 gti is better in every way. Sound isolation is at higher level, car has more confidence at bends, with no speed limiter it goes 268kph. Fuel consumption avg 10L+- per 100km. U need to fill it with 100 oct fuel to get most of it performance vise. All in all, you need to drive the car for a few months to have full experience how everything works, one experience is on media, other in real life. I ordered car without seeing it in person, so i didnt expect such a big step up from 2018 gtd seeing all those reviewers talking how bad multimedia stuff was, what i realised was that they dont know how to use this commands, which are really intuitive, attention to detail is on another level.

The ability that is has to go from a regular Golf to a sporty, fun car is what makes this car so brilliant. It’s the Swiss Army knife of the hot hatch world, I wouldn’t want it to be different.

Was gonna get an 8 i got a slightly used 7.5 highline since it's got the same tech and features just a different layout and with those highline led running lights and the upgraded rear lights it looks really cool and modern aswell at least as modern as the 8

I’ve heard they all have heated seats but you have to pay extra activate it. Abit like an iPhone update on the system. So even if it was purchased with no heated seats option you can buy it later on haha

Own a new gti. Picked it up from the Wolfsburg factory two weeks ago. Came into the workshop at our nearby dealer last week. Seatheating and ambient lighting won’t work. Furthermore it warns about malfunction of the aeb system. While the engine is great the infotainment is so bad to use not even the sells man at vw minrath germany knows how to use it and said how bad it was. Definitely not recommend to buy this car.
