      @dixonpinfold2582 Před 6 měsíci +1

      @@brandonf1260 Not that many years ago I would've agreed with you, eight or 10 maybe. It's a very common opinion, and I thought the reason was that it was simply true. But at last, a little while later, I realized than my view of conservatives was highly caricatured. And I realized I'd been had.
      For opinions like the one you expressed are what one is taught by: most university faculty (especially younger ones and TAs of course), most of one's fellow students at almost all universities, most American movies, most American TV shows, most American news outlets, most American magazines, most American celebrities, most or perhaps nearly all American teachers, very nearly all American liberals, all American left-wingers and all American wokesters. And it's been that way since about 1980.
      The demonization of conservatism has been so energetic, so thoroughgoing, that you actually owe it to yourself to consider how it is that they haven't gone away. If your answer to that is that "Uh, because they're evil and immortal like vampires" and you say it because you don't think the question even deserves a moment's thought, I understand. I was once like you. It's what I would've said.
      But I suggest you take it seriously anyway, simply out of non-conformity - if your original liberal spirit of non-conformity still has a flicker of a pulse after however many years spent conforming to liberal ideology and prejudices.
      Consider if you will what liberal Americans have shown themselves willing to do and willing to give up in the past ten years alone in order to spare themselves the horrors of conservatism. Consider how many of them are grimly (or cheerfully) determined to re-elect a less-honest-than-average president with a clearly shrunken and wizened brain. Consider that they have joined forces to revamp the language down to its very pronouns. Consider that they stand up for the right of men to walk into women's locker rooms and showers and expose their sex organs in front of the women. Consider that they supported _unnecessarily_ depriving their children of a year or more of irreplaceable education and socialization in the classroom.
      I could list another hundred irrational things they've done simply to thwart conservatism. And again, I understand. I understand that they think they have to do whatever it takes. They simply want to be good people. They want to oppose evil. They want to avert chaos, save democracy, ensure decency, save lives, rescue the planet and entrench everything else wholesome and desirable. Because conservatives are evil, ignorant, full of hate, they're a bunch of cartoon characters beyond redemption.
      Only it's all a hoax. Conservatism is relentlessly straw-manned. What they are is simply people who believe that the oath of Hippocrates, _First, you shall do no harm,_ is well suited to more walks of life than just medicine, and especially to politics and social engineering. They are profound disbelievers in utopian solutions, in the idea that we today really might be the most morally enlightened and wonderful people of all time (we're not), in the idea that after numberless millennia of humanity struggling with eternal problems, it's the people born after 1945, '55, '65, '75, '85 or '95 who've _Finally Figured It All Out far, far more thoroughly and better than anyone ever has! Nay, perfectly!_ (Cf. Confucius: "The answers were all found long ago.") Actually we're just the latest cohort set to blunder childishly and spectacularly if we make the mistake of believing in ourselves like that.
      That's what I finally realized after decades as a liberal. Not all at once, not right away. At first it was barely at all, in a painful haze of cognitive dissonance as what I believed and what I saw with my own eyes were in direct contradiction with each other. Then it was more and more, gradually, as I began to trust the rational and not the socialized part of myself. And at last I realized that my initial attraction to the 'truths' of liberalism was in fact an attraction to being in the 'right' community all along. I wanted to be "the sort of person who knows that [insert any of a thousand liberal tropes about how every liberal/left-wing tenet is by its very liberalness/left-ness inherently superior in morality]" and who is _recognized for it._
      And I realized that it had cost me very dearly. It had cost me access to the very truth I thought I was picking off the shelf as easily as consumer packaged goods. I'd been had by a bunch of really rather awful people whose sole merit was sometimes or usually meaning well - especially when other people were looking - and whose demerits would take forever to plumb.
      I shouldn't have taken so long to realize all this. I actually stifled the budding of these realizations for a long time because I genuinely feared it meant no longer "being a good person." Oh, what an id io t I was! But late is better than never.
      (I also shouldn't have waited so long to start writing all this out. Again, better late than never. At least I've started now. Your comment somehow made it seem like the right time. So thanks.)

      @@coffeecake323 I'm throwing the bullsh!t flag on your comment. Ever heard of anonymous surveys? Every major university asks or requires their faculty to complete them from time to time. Nothing illegal or unconstitutional about that. Many do collect political and religious affiliation information, and professors are free not to answer. Nevertheless, everyone knows that the percentages of Republicans and conservatives at Ivy League institutions falls somewhere between miniscule and non-existent, because passive forms of political/ideological discrimination are baked into the faculty recruitment process, and it's even worse among some academic disciplines because those areas of study are inherently radical/progressive in nature, i.e., queer studies. Your comment offers a "fig leaf" of cover to these practices. When I was an undergraduate, and again in law school, we knew who every Democrat and Republican faculty member was in the Political Science and Economics departments, and among the law professors. On the poli sci faculty, there was one moderate Republican among 35+ tenure-track professors, and Democrats outnumbered Republicans 3 to 1 even among the economists. For law professors, it was more like 10 to 1, and it was an open joke among the faculty. All of the Republicans were older, and were clearly being replaced by an even more left-leaning generation. That was 25 to 30 years ago.

    Recent polls at Harvard show that 2% of students supported Trump while 1% of faculty supported Trump. Since the country was pretty much split down the middle at 50/50, the argument is that these universities do not embrace diverse thinking as they claim, let alone proportionately represent American thinking. The further argument is that as long as left wing thinking almost unanimously represents university thinking, it leaves very little room to support the existence critical thinking and diversity of thought. What we are currently seeing in these ivy league universities appears to be a direct reflection of a startling poor capacity for insight and ability to question. See what you will in that.

    I watched the entire video today and here's some reaction. I found the witnesses responses lacking personal morality, notably the Harvard and UPenn Presidents smirking facial features. Their responses were coated in legal paint and vague, while also deflective and never truly answering questions. The most important question is how, how did we arrive here today? Almost immediately after the October 7th Hamas terrorist attack, a well-coordinated pro-Hamas social falsehood erupted all over United States college campuses. How did this hatred for Jews manifest itself into our universities? How is it possible to increase antisemitism while the implementation of DEI was introduced back in June 2021? The answer to this question must be met swiftly and without hesitation. Society must hold our leaders accountable for their inaction and appeasement to destructive ideology. In my laymen opinion, DEI is at the epicenter of this issue. It is abundantly clear that whatever is lectured inside certain university classes, is breading hateful rhetoric while also rewriting historical truths. Society must also start holding students accountable for their actions, they are adults. However, the problem I think, goes back to grade school and parenting. To move forward in a moral society and limit antisemitism, society itself must balance a couple of topics. The topics include, a massive country wide investigation focusing on the root cause of antisemitism, leadership failures, DEI policy and its effect on morality, lack of factual Jewish history taught, and the manipulation of historical truths and facts. The Ivy League schools must be held accountable with changes in leadership and policy moving forward. The United States ideological core appears to be corrupted and influenced by foreign entities at our highest educational institutions, exacerbated by DEI and the "Colonist vs Victim" doctrinational literature. President Joe Biden initiated, by Executive Order, the implementation of DEI on June 25th 2021. Please reach out into the comments and let me know what you think.

    This governmental representative actually tried to argue that because college campus HR departments aren’t fascist enough and then tried to tie this into antisemitism and Hamas attacking Israel on October 7th. He then actually said that because universities won’t demand professors political opinions then this is an example of George Orwell type behavior.
    …and people are praising him in the comment section. This is America now-fascism and the dunning-Kruger effect with constant fallacies, irony and hypocrisy.

    In our Day we went to school to learn, gain knowledge in our chosen faculties. It seems that that has somehow become the last of the priorities in present Day academia. On top of that the output of these so called prestigious institutions behaves with such appaling arrogance -- these three presidents are a sample of a much larger set of extremely misguided individuals.

    I have a great deal of teachers in my extended family. Only one is conservative. I actually asked him how is that possible. He said it was because he was the principal and it's a lot different when you're the principal. I have a hard time believing it would be 1% of professors that are conservative. That's way too high.

    The only way to answer that question is for universities to require every professor to register their political leanings with the school. Imagine the howling if they had done that!
