- Going over how I upsize my brass specifically for the 9.3x57. That old Swedish mauser deserves some love; let's not starve it.

Nice video, you have convinced me to find a new purpose for my M48 8x57 JS and the 9.3x57 will make a perfect 100meter rifle.
You don't need a circular saw. Any handsaw you use for cutting limbs or brush will work. The coarser the teeth the better it works. Thanks for a great tip on getting an economical source of brass for this great cartridge - original Norma brass is always crazy expensive.
Thank you for the information I needed to start on this cartridge.
the pleasure is all mine! let me know if you have questions! Cheers!
You had me at grinder and circular saw. Subbed
Thank you! :) Lol, I have at least 6 takes of that shot :) I guess hard work pays off! :) Thanks again!
Great timing on this one. I ordered a potato cannon(9.3x57) this week from intersurplus. It’s in great shape for something under $300. Even has the front sight hood still on it and weaver bases so might put a scope on just to see how it shoots. Picked up dies, 8x57 brass and PPU 285 grain bullets. I’ve been searching the internet looking for load data and there isn’t much out there. Found a few good loads I’m going to try but definitely starting low and working up. CFE223 looks promising
finding data was the hardest part, but not impossible :) 3031 and Big Game are the powder I'm going to explore most for this. Feel free to share any links you found online.
@@WildBushGrit I’m going to start with powders my 338 federal likes with heavier bullets like CFE223, leverevolution, x-terminator and AA2230 just because I have a bunch of it. Hopefully find something acceptable with them. Did you bed the action or relieve the tang? Was thinking maybe doing that too before I fire it because the stocks are prone to cracking
@@dyouden I did a little job on the tang, on another video that is yet to be edited 🤣 (I can film faster than I can edit it seems) Are you using a software to calculate for load data?
No, but some data I found online was a guy using loading software with cfe 223 and was comparable to 338 federal loads. Don’t think I want to push this past 50k psi. I also read you can use 358 Winchester loads with same weight bullets as a starting point. Also read using 9.3x62 loads minus 20%. I’m not looking to hot rod this cartridge, I have my 9.3x62 if I need more jam. Just hoping to find something accurate enough as a short range thumper
@@dyouden I've been thinking about using 8x57 or 9.3x62 data and see if we could convert to the ratio, but remembered that pressure isn't linear and can do weird things. I'll try to correlate some 9.3x62 data with the load I found on 9.3x57 and see if there is a general trend. The 20% seems big at first. difference between 62 and 57 isn't 20%. I'll keep you posted with some math :)
Great channel, very encouraging! I am about to do the same necking up, just going to try annealing the brass so it gets softer
Thanks :) What brass will you be using?
@@WildBushGrit Thanks for the load data as well! Just did my resizing, after watching your video. Silly me by mistake bought Hornady 8x57 JRS, which happens to be the rimmed variant of 8x57 Mauser :) Up-necking went very well, just had to cut the rim off in the lathe, which was also straight forward
@@romanroman1975 oh wow, oh I wish I had a lathe so much fun.
Great video! Thinking about converting my 7x57 93 mauser to this. I already have a zastava m70 7x57 and a tikka t3x 9.3x62.
If I were to play devil's advocate, I'd say you could reload your 9.3x62 to a lower level and get the performance of the 9.3x57. But... maybe you need a 8x57 instead :) Then you cover the whole spectrum :)
*If 9.3x57 is found to have excessive headspace... one easy fix is to re-chamber to 9,3x62. Another fix is to 'fix or custom make your ammo shoulders' by forming 30-06 length cartridges with shoulders to match shoulder of chamber... and trim the length to match chamber length. 30-06
*basic brass "without the neck" and without headstamps might be an awesome choice for the brass.*
Some of the custom brass makers will make/sell basic 30 caliber (30-06, etc.) "cylinder brass" for case forming. That's the product you're looking for.

Looks cold🥶 but beautiful outside. I haven't looked into 9.3x57, is it generally just a large game(larger than deer) hunting cartridge, kinda like the .375 Whellen round?
I have a comparison video on the Mauser caliber, the 9.3x57 is close to the 358WIN. I can't find much info on the 375Whelen, is it a Wildcat? To me the 9.3x57 is amedium to large game, with within moderate range. 200-250 yards for Medium, and 100 yards for Large. If you apply the 1000 ft/lb for Medium and 1500 ft/lb for Large game. :) Cheers!
@@WildBushGrit oh ok cool, the 375 whelen is kind of a wildcat, I think they do, or did, offer factory ammo for it. It's simply a 30-06 case necked up to 375. I think there's actually a couple of "Whelen" calibers out there, from my understanding they're all just 30-06 cases with the neck diameters changed to whatever. Never messed with them though so I'm definitely not an expert. Closest I've come is my Gewher 88/05 that has a .3205 bore🤦♂️. Perfectly in the middle between 318 and 323. Not really any change in the necks but it makes finding bullets a pain. Rifling is crisp and sharp so I'm not sure if it has been worn out from 318 to .3205 over 100+ years or if they did a bad job of boring it out to 323 and only got it to .3205. Anyway love your videos, keep up the good work!
Either way it seems too big for the 318 and too tight for 323 😂 maybe casting is your only option :) big round nose bullet, should be a fun project. Thanks man appreciate the feedback very kind and certainly encouraging :) Cheers!
@@WildBushGrit yeah I've found some 321 bullets here and there, I also cast, so I can feed it, just gotta be careful lol
How often are you annealing the cases ?
I haven't started annealing, yet, I'm looking into it. I used to shoot cheap brass, but now I'm getting into Lapua & Norma territories, and I want these brass to last... a looooooong time :) My friends anneal every time they reload.
Is that the same as 9mm Mauser ? which I thought is just 9×57 ?
Good question, no they are not the same with different diameter. The x57 has many variations from 5.6 to 9.5 which all use the same parent case from 7x57. Even the 257 Robert use it.
