Yeah I used wax paper for years. It was a game changer going to cling wrap.
Same here! What sparked the idea was when Great Planes came out with their plan protector I decided to give it a try then I liked the product but ran out so decided to use Reynolds wrap back in the day and that worked somewhat okay. IdK but I tried it all and years later when cling wrap came out I gave that a try and I was a game changer for me.
I just pulled my kits and partial builds out of the attic to get back into this. I found this part and I have a p51 that was built up to the point this ended cant wait till round 3 great show thanks.
Same. I have one almost finished but has sat for 20 years. The wing skins are very brittle and break to the slightest touch. Will probably need to re-skin before glassing. But I have another TF P-51 NIB which I may just start a fresh build. My building skills are better than when I was working on the first one and I have learned some tricks from these videos as well.

Cling wrap is excellent and far cheaper than laminating the plan.
I like how you think through the challenges that occurred during the wing build, and just how fast a non-desirable event can sneak in and cause large problems with the wing. Your videos are a huge help to modelers that are wanting to start building kits.... thank you for that. If you need to support something on a temporary basis during a build ( like the long support blocks near the center of the wing ) just attach them with a small dab of hotmelt glue, and when you are done with them, 91% rubbing alcohol will completely remove the block and the hot melt glue. try it on a couple of scraps. I am also following the GPUS 1000 build.
Roger that good tips I will keep that in mind in future builds. US1000 video are all done and edited Part 5 should be fully uploaded to the channel by tomorrow. Part 6 will be up next shortly after. All that is left on the US1000 is maiden flight.

I am just now building this kit. Love your video's. Can you tell me what retracts to use and what engine you used?
Well I was planning on using Robart retracts dedicated for the 60 size P51 top flite model and a toss up between a Saito FG21 4 stroke gas engine or a DLE20RA. Unfortunately I have yet to get back onto the build because lots of thing just going on Lin life at the moment. Trying to get my house sold so I can relocate back Stateside.
Love the build videos. Can't wait for the next video, when's that coming??
I have yet gotten back to working in the shop and continuing the builds. Taking care of my Mother at the moment with her health issues. Once I begin to be able to balance everything out and have free time I will defiantly get back to the P51 and DC3 builds.

Currently I have not been able to get into the shop to start on the builds because my elderly mother was sick and then hospitalized the past few months. I have been caring for her and she was just released back home day before yesterday. My Mom has renal failure (kidney failure) and is undergoing dialysis 3 time per week. Once I am able to get into a good steady pace on her needs here at home I will find time to get back into the shop and start making videos again. Thank you so much!

I am! I just have not gotten back to continuing the build series on the P51 and DC3 since my mother's passing. I do plan on getting back on track with those build series as soon as I can.

I have not gotten back to the P51 or DC3 just yet since my Mom passed away. Been slowly working back into the shop. So to keep my mind at ease I am finishing the Dynaflite Super Decathlon since it is such a easy build.

After looking at my P-51 I have noticed my elevator doesn't have the counter balances built in. I bought this kit from another builder years ago and I think i am going to finish this one first. would you open the elevator back up to put them in? I already have to open the sheeted wing to convert the ailerons to have servos verse's the push rods.
the counter balance tabs do add to the scale look. There is no way around adding the counter balance tabs into the stab/fin and rudder/elevators without removing the sheeting, cutting into the trailing edges and leading edges to build up the tabs and slots. All depends on how much work you are willing to do! If it were mine I would put in the work for sure.
Hey man! Great build! What glue was that you used to sheet the wing? Thick CA?
That is medium ZAP CA that I used for the sheeting. If the wing was larger I would have gone with Titebond III for the extra working time. However the P51 wing allowed me to use Medium CA with ample time before the CA cured. Thanks for your comment I truly appreciate it

Hi there, quick question on the wing build. Did you find both rib W2’s a bit loose ‘depth wise’ with top and bottom main spar? It looked the same with the early part of your video. Great videos BTW, really enjoy them
I didn't my ribs were just fine sitting on the main spars. As a matter of fact I had to trim my ribs to increase the depth the spar will sit into the slots.
how do you remove the flap part?????
After sheeting you cut out at the located areas freeing it from the structure
Are the main spars and spar doublers base wood or balsa

Great kit spoiled by "die stamping" more so when dies are blunt.
Building is is just plain fun no matter if I am scratch building or from a kit and one or the other does not dictate the level of superiority as a builder. I started this hobby in the 80's and still enjoying it today! Well now we have laser cutters that really out shines the old school die stamping methods. No matter what it is that you are building or assembling as long as you enjoy what you do and having fun doing it then that at the end of the day is by far the greatest feeling.

Yes I have the Top Flite DC3 and P51 mustang build series started during the time my Mom was sick and going back and forth to the hospital. I had to put those builds on hold expected to be a short while but ended up my Mom needed my full attention for her life took a turn for the worst. I am slowly getting back into the shop and building again, so it is just a matter of time that I will get back to the P51 and DC3 build series again.

My mom passed away December 24th, 2022. I laid her to rest Jan 16th, 2023. Since then been busy situating things. Things are slowly getting back to a new normal.
