- Welcome to episode #36 of Stay Fishy Adventures! One of my favorite things to do in this world is hike into a remote bodies of water, whether it's lakes, creeks, or rivers, and fish for mountain trout. These fish are wild and beautiful in these places, and the country surrounding these fish is some of the most beautiful in the world. Today I am heading into the bluest lake I have ever seen in my life, it was so beautiful, and I can't wait to share it with you. Thanks so much for watching everyone, and Stay Fishy my friends.

Amateur mycologist in the PNW here! So those mushrooms probably weren't matsutake. They have a very distinct and powerful scent, that's sorta spicy, like a cinnamon red hot candy mixed with your normal mushroom earthy smells and pine. Also not a porcini (or a relative) because it has gills under the veil instead of sponge-like pores that boletes, the family porcini belong to, have. If I had to guess what those mushrooms were, it might be another Tricholoma in the same family as the matsutake, but it could just as easily be very young Russula brevipes, Catathelasma ventricosum or even some flavor of Amanita which could be deadly poisonous. You made a very good call in not eating them.
Amateur, might be a under statement my friend 😆 you seem as if you could teach on the subject ✌🏼😎 Best regards from eastern Oregon 🇺🇸
Very nice that you chimed in with your expertise, mushroom hunting is always fun until you pick the wrong one. Then it's uncontrollable vomiting 🤮 and renal failure, definitely not fun.
@@OneRoundDown or funeral expenses 😕
Catathelasma ventricosa is correct
PNW amanitas muscaria and guessowi are edible! they require slicing and boiling, discard the water, boil again, and then you can fry them, or ferment then for pickles, or dry them for soups later.
autumn amanitas are very tasty, a nutty flavor, only do this if you can positively identify them with a book handy, or a great deal of experience. they're pretty easy to ID, though.
PLEASE snowshoe into this lake in the early spring! I bet it's beautiful under snow. What a gorgeous video. Thanks for taking us along. If you ever have any suspected sasquatch activity, give me a shout!
WE NEED MORE OF THIS! The mountain lake trout fishing is my favorite of all fishing videos. Those cuttys were beautiful! Great video as always 👍 love it keep ‘em coming
Another great video Jordan, you now how to fish and Hunt mushrooms.and I like you always bring little fish on my friend
My wife and I just love Little! Y’all have an awesome relationship!
On a different note, it's amazing how the beauty of the woods can make you forget about the troubles of the world. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else.
Indeed….
Living on the east coast.I can’t believe how beautiful it is out there!! Everyone says it’s pretty here in northern pa but def nothing like that!
Old polish trick when your mushroom picking, break a piece off and place it on your tongue if it starts to burn spit it out and don't pick, also if bugs and rodents have been eating them is another good sign.
I love how eventually you give up and crumple that 1 shroom up in to pierces and “who cares”
What a gorgeous setting! Looking forward to this one! Cheers 🍻
i just found me some Matsutakes yesterday!!!! Can't wait to cook them up tonight
Little makes me want a fishy friend to go fish with who will love fishing as much as I do I obviously have a lot to learn but you make it look so easy but definitely a way to escape reality and enjoy the great outdoors and I love the videos keep ‘em coming! ❤

Officially doxxed on Stay Fishy Adventures, life is good! I'm glad to see you are getting use from that book I sent you Jordan, and glad you chose to pass up the ones you found. It's always better to investigate further and make a positive identification . Happy hunting guys.
Oh no problem just add more salt to high salt content 🤔 just make sure to drink enough water awesome video
Love and follow your channels. Not criticizing your fly fishing technique but I'm an avid fly fisherman for over 40 years so please consider my advise.
When you hook a fish keep the line tight and reel in the loose line quickly. Then you can fight the fish using your reel drag.
This is way important fly fishing for bigger fish.
I look forward to your videos I check every morning just in case I miss the notification. you make my day. had the pleasure of watching your videos while camping this past weekend. stay bless my friend
This place looks amazing! Absolutely loving your videos and channel, already can’t wait for the next adventure🎣 you know imma snag some of that merch as soon as you drop it, gotta get you to Patagonia ASAP! Much love and good vibes your way, stay fishy💥
Looking forward to the stay fishy merch. Keep em coming.
Great video, as always! Best guess is those were young russula brevipes, which are the host mushroom for lobsters and are super common. Matsutakes always have a very strong odor that is kind of stinky & spicy at the same time, where russulas typically have minimal smell. The exception being a shrimp russula, which has a red/ pink cap and blush on the stem. Comparing boletes, boletes always have pores, where russulas have true gills. Last key is russulas snap like chalk, which it looked like was happening when you broke apart the last one. Russula brevipes is edible, but not particularly tasty. Probably a great place to go back to look for lobsters. Good call on not eating it without 100% identification! You know the saying, "You can always eat any mushroom, once..." Keep up the great work and thanks for sharing!
Not russula. When he picks up the first one you can see a veil...
@@michaelsaks3610 Nice catch! I know I've found a Tricholoma non-matsutake look-alike species with no odor in the past, don't recall which one. Another possibility could be Catathelasma imperial, but that would be a huge flush if so!
@@dr.michaelneely9073 yeah I was thinking maybe Catathelasma ventricosa or maybe thricholoma zelleri👍
thanks jordan i really like the hike in camping and fishing trips you do,always enjoy your content and videos bud.patagona sounds interesting....
Haha to the 1 second of the “catchin’ music” until that one got off. Editor has a sense of humour 😆
Love this episode
Awesome as usual!
Really enjoying your videos, keep them coming.
Jordan, get "All that the rain promises and more" written by David Arora. Hands down the best pocket guide for safely harvesting edible mushrooms. You need it in your life!
The way you dropped that potential Matsutake for a Lobster.... oh man! I literally screamed "noooooo!" LOL! Great job pulling out an ID book and deciding not to eat it without a 100% ID - I also recommend David Arora's "All that the Rain Promises and More..." which is a must have for PNW foraging - it's also quite a bit smaller than the ID book you have so may make it easier to pack!
I would love to see an ice fishing adventure with pine trees covered with snow, and a nice view.
Anyone else see the Sasquatch try to get out of the sleeping bag? 😂 Great vid Jordan. 🎉
I praise you,🙌....your so lucky
Love your videos. And special thanks to Shawn for making your adventures come to videos😅👍
These videos are the highlight of my Wednesdays.
You should make a coffee mug/thermos of some kind with your logo and the words “Good Cup” above the logo and “Of Joe” below it!
Lake Marengo is a body of water whose surface is smooth as glass. But getting to Lake Marengo is a genuine pain in the ass.

All the love my dude - so happy for your growth and success. Hope to thrown a line sometime with you
This is just like the lakes between Vancouver BC and the Whistler ski Resort area , Lots of Cutthroats and Dolly Vardens , , The only draw back is the Local Bald Eagles that try to take the Trout as we reel them in 🐬
the weather so good
WAHOO! Patagonia 😮 Sea run huge German brownies?
Cutties in the pan man. That’s the way to stay fishy.
Hey Jordan, that lake is one of my all time places to go fish! Nice score.🤙

I did a backpacking 2 day trip with me and my doggo and it was the first time since I was a kid that the trout actually tasted SO good! My boy echo ate the skins and extra crispys and he has never loved me more lmao

Totally enjoyed your journey hope you saw the Rock Owl checking you and little out .

Early Birds💪🏼
#stayfishyboys
thanx
Another great one Jordan I need to get out and find some wild mushrooms your videos are super informative on them and made me a lot more confident on what I can eat out there
Along with huge salmon and big rainbows and brown there are some Labrador (Nipigon) sized Brook Trout in Patagonia. I also think that there is landlocked Atlantic salmon there!
I like this video.❤❤
Haha does the mushroom book have a page on mommy milker mushrooms 🤣
Happy to see you're a chaco guy, I wear mine 300 days a year here in Michigan
I know exactly where this lake is. I fish here every year and spend countless weekends here. Its so beautiful
Where is it?
Its in the cascade mountain range. In between mt. Adams and Mt st. Helens. Its called Blue lake
A really fast retrieve has always been effective for me on high lakes
Love the NEW "Little" hoodies
Awesome fishing 👍 looks like a little lake in beaver I like to go to, Kent lake (upper)
Everytime I see you upload i get so hyped bro! just found out you used to fish with a cousin of mine on the sandy river I got a little star struck when he told me 🤣
