They changed and expanded quite a bit from the game, which is a good thing. In the game, Sam is a year younger than Ellie, isn't hearing impaired, and is portrayed as being impulsive and Henry is portrayed as being rather selfish, strict, and kind of a jerk. I like their portrayal in the show better, making Henry more empathetic and Sam being a child that needed extra protection due to his condition. It also creates different dynamics than that of Joel and Ellie's. I also love the change they made with Ellie and Sam's scene...in the game, Sam didn't tell anyone he was bitten and the other three slept in different room (which is a weird setup), in the show, it adds more gravity and pressure towards Ellie's resolve to be the cure...and it make sense that Sam isn't left to sleep alone...also him being deaf made him unable to hear Ellie's while they're sleeping.
Oh and Perry, Kathleen's right handman is the voice actor of Tommy in the game.
Hi, Vera here! They did an amazing job with the characters in the show. They have depth, and it's so easy to empathize with them. Ellie and Sam's scene in that room was done so well. That setup made the ending of the episode all the more tragic and heartbreaking.
