I’m pretty sure he’s referring the outdated lore as a way to tell people why Dr. Mundo was designed so silly to begin with. His new lore is great and silly and all but it’s not tied to his original introduction to league of legends.
I still say that Dr. Mundo should be a Brain in a jar, self-lobotomized and carried around by his mutated body.
It would be amazingly comedic for his character: the insane super genius doctor that lobotomized himself after an experiment that mutated his body, and the brainless body that carries him around bantering back and forth, similar to Kayn and Rhaast.
Mundo could keep his current stupid personality, while adding additional lore and had acted depth with Dr. Mundo’s brain.

I was inspired by the piece of concept art with his brain in a jar on his shoulder, and it made me think of Old World Blues from Fallout NV, but then even more so made me think of doG-God from the Sierra Madre, which those types of personalities would fit Mundo’s design exceptionally well.

Things I have to say in favor of the concept:
-It's on early stage, so it's probable they change some things
-His comical nature was never in his vissuals, but personality and voice
-Except the face, he pretty much retains what Mundo is, big purple muscular man who think he is a doctor but he isn't
-They added more details to the previous simple design: asylum clothes under a straitjacket, a first aid kit that doesn't really aid, body augmentation that not only explain his size and color but also why he can take lots of pain with no repercusion.
-His body complexion is now realistic and not cartoonish
agreed on that i'm very excited for the mundo rework for they want to keep the elements i like on him so he won't end up like the aatrox rework for me and more like a pantheon styled rework keeping the core idea but updating it too fit better into the game
@@niklashasse6112 Yeah, from what they said about Mundo rework, they will keep his R and Q for sure. And since they said he will still "go wherever he pleases", his W will still grant him Tenacity, or maybe even cleanse heavy CC and make him immune to CC for a short time, but maybe it will have a decent cooldown to not abuse it. And likely he might have a new E since they never said anything about it yet.

Yeah, but... This would make him actually even more terrifying than fiddlesticks is. Imagine a hulking mass of flesh, that rips out its own body parts, throws them at you and then regenerates them on the spot. That legitimately makes me feel uneasy. That's a monster design for a new Diablo game, not League of Legends.

I actually think he still kinda looks silly! The big blue tongue and brighter purple when he beefs up is pretty funny.
I don't get the "intended to look silly", didn't all leage champs looked and sounded silly at the some point? Like, every single one of them (mostly the old ones [like mundo]) have strange designes and silly voice lines, so why is just mundo the silly one?

@@1greninjawolfbossdeath648 I felt the opposite with fidd honestly. His lore took him very seriously as a horror monster. New fidd finally delivers on that visually. With Mundo, even his lore treats him as a comedy character so to shift him to serious is just really off.
Me too, they could have taken some parts from the initial designs and now... he's a purple e-boy on steroids.
Here are some suggestions for Mundo's new design:
1. Give him tons of veins and scars.
2. Give him mishapen hair with cleaver scars, indicating that Mundo cuts his own hair and does a very poor job at it.
3. Make his jaw a bit more crude and mishapen.
That's about it. The little chemtech modules on his arms are pretty cool, I'd keep them.

Yeah, my only big complaint is that he looks too clean, too well-put-together. Like, this is what Mundo THINKS he looks like. Now give us what he actually looks like
Just gonna throw it out here that chainsaws were orignally designed for hospitals as a way to remove limbs easy and fast. So if his "Cleaver" is changed into something along the line of a chainsaw, it would somewhat fit the doctor design thingy.
Edit: It was brought to my attention thst it was actually made to remove parts of the pelvic bones so childbirth would be easier, thanks for that.

I mean this is literally 1 photo. If mundo was given a serious voice and updated graphics he'd just be a hulk with his tongue out and a syringe in his back. The voice is what gives him most of the silly element, you cant judge that through a piece of concept art. Also no one mentioned that mundo has a ladle in the bag.

Riot says that they wish to turn him into a dark comical champion. While I am excited to see this new side to riot games, this is a new idea of theirs. As a result, it wouldn’t surprise me if this concept art is focusing on what kind of art they are good at to START with, and then slowly explore what they could change to make the dark comical Mundo they promised.
except what does that MEAN? dark comedy is a ludicrously vague "reference point" and not useful from a design perspective, barely useful to describe a person's sense of humor.

Mundo will be "dark comical" according to the announcement so.. pretty sure they can nail that. The concept art is nothing but a concept, not final design.
Yeah, and since Seraphine and the tank shredding support will be the final champs of this season, what I can say is Mundo will come in early Season 11 hopefully.

We talk a lot about how "silly" and "goofy" Mundo is as a character and the fact that he is all funny and kinda dumb but the original idea of mundo is absolutely not on the funny spectrum at ALL.
In the lore he litteraly tortured and killed poor little animals when he was a child for fun just because he loved seeing them suffer and was fascinated by pain as a concept, after all the animals in his neigbourhood were slaughtered by him he decided to go bigger and try his next experiment on humans and deliberately chose his own parents as his first subject. He both tortured them and they later died because of the excrutiable pain they were feeling. Then he kept on killing random people just to enjoy their suffering in the most gruesome ways possible all over Zaun.
He was supposed to be anything but goofy and fun.
In the lore he is more akin to some kind of monstruous bastard you could see in Berserk than a random joke character. (The head design on the bottom left corner at 16:43 is a perfect exemple for that.)
I hope they will finaly make him justice with this rework.
He was most definetely not supposed to be goofy and funny, but he is. I mean, all of his skins are pretty much joke skins (except for Rageborn Mundo, and perhaps the Winter Wonderland one, althouhg I'd call that borderline), his dialogue is obviously not meant to be very serious and I'm not aware of any interactions with new champions who suggest he's actually a dark and menacing character (correct if I'm wrong please, I'd actually love to see something in that direction).
I'm sure they will make him a somewhat badass and serious character now, and I'm happy that it will please you, but I really don't get this push&pull thing that they're doing with him. I feel like his lore condractics how he's portrayed.
That hasn't been mundos lore for a very long time. He's pretty much just a purple moron that runs around mimicking the doctors from the asylum that he spent his entire childhood at.

Fid was never intended to be or written as a goofy champ. But came out goofy because of his old in-game model, animations & overall design.
With his update, they fix this & made Fid a serious, horror demon. Killing his goofy champ misconception (Well, they pushed some of that goofiness into Surprise Party)

@@Jeddy027 That is a perfect exemple I think they should choose one or the other, either go on the psycho / creepy vibe and transform him into the horror that his backstory suggest or decide to go full on funny / goofy and make it so that he will be seen that way for good but yeah his state as a character today as presented in the video is no good and must absolutely be changed in a way that will give us a clear idea of who he is and what he does putting aside the fact that he realy need a vgu simply because wow he did not age well.
Personaly as a Fiddle main I was realy happy to see the rework as it is now, I always loved fiddle for its kit and its appearance but also for who it was at the time. Again (sorry for the boring story time but I'm a sucker for lore) Old Fiddlesticks lore stated that it was found in a summoning room inside the institute of war after a summoner invoked it from another realm, after that, every single apprentice who decided to venture in the summoning room were instantly cut down by it and the ones that survived stayed mad for the rest of their lives. The situation was so out of hand that it was banished and kept under control in the very room it appeared for 20 years until the council of the institute of war decided to use it as an executioner for the league.
What an introduction amaright ? And yet look at this good old fiddle before its rework, it looks like a character from the wizard of Oz...
So yeah in my opinion I think they should definitly make him scarier and realistic or at least more believable. :/

I fucking hate Kai'Sa, before her, the void was the one place I could go to escape sexualization and get non-humanoid characters. But then Kai'Sa came along and shot the void lore 50 times.

Ok i have one criticism about this video, starts at 11:02, so what Skyen is saying is that mundo is a comedic champion and his old version invokes that, but his old design leans more heavily on the voice lines to do that, you wouldnt know Mundo is a comedic character by looking at his old design alone, he just looks like a psycho brute, we we all know he is goofy thanks to his voice lines, so who is to say the new one wont have funny goofy lines too?
I agree I want them to bump up the brute of his visual make him looks the part of a serial killer not just a mental patient. He should bring fear into the back line of teamfights!
Well it’s also his lore that makes him goofy and gross since he would legit eat toe nails for fun and slashing at himself or others or believe himself to be a doctor healing others while chopping him up he had a lot to indicate he’s goofy but scary but I agree with the video he seems hot which isn’t really the way his design should go I’d be nice to have a champ that’s unappealing looki but still cool since most are hot these days
His current desing fits perfectly with goofy lines! New one? No. I just hope they wont kill him for me as they did with Gangplank. Since Gp rework i havent even touched him and i mained the oranges guy. Cant stand his new lines. From goofy pirate to emo pirate. (banging my head to wall to this day about that)

He went from a champion with massive amounts of skill expression to a character with very little skill expression who follows the same gameplay loop every game. I will say his lore and visual design was a big improvement though, but oof his gameplay.

@@bfeldz1023 This is anecdotal, but I personally enjoy playing Mordekaiser because he's simple but has enough skill expression (timing the shield) that it isn't braindead. The idea of being a giant metal fortress also appeals to me
I never played the previous morde, but I think gameplaywise, mordekaiser was a success.
Honestly, the old morde was probably one of the most skill expressive champions next to like shaco, you could immediately tell who was a god at the champ and who was new(ish) to them, now.. eh, not so much imo
I would say the Hairstyle makes sense from a lore perspective, but what turns that back is the straightjacket. Because Mundo wants to be a good doctor so he might want to look presentable. In his own twisted Child mind way.
I think it’s important to remember with a champ like mundo we don’t know how cartoony he is until we see him in motion. If you showed me current mundo I would think he is just some dude, maybe a bit goofy but what makes mundo mundo are (imo) his voice lines, his really cheesy and goofy gameplay, etc. his design just kind of looks like hulk and the only thing that really makes me think he looks funny is the tongue (which is kept) and the weirdly beautiful hair (which is made even more amazing). His skins are also what makes him funnier too but obviously we aren’t seeing that.
TLDR what I think makes mundo funny are the things we cannot get from an image.
i am a little optimistic, if they can fully NAIL his animations, to make him clumsy and silly, doing things like dropping his cleaver on his foot then looking around for it, or just stumbling around as he falls over his massive feet, maybe if they give him a bodyslam attack where he lands on his face(and peels it off the floor like loonytoons) i think this concept design could, could still be what we want, i am worried about them losing the grasp of his identity.
But remember the Fiddlesticks rework, you were not terribly keen on it until we saw all the finishing touches were there. Mundo's animations and Voice could actually save him.
hope they don't take the fun and flavour out of my boy. and my favourite flavour is purple.

OKAY, half a coffee, and here's what I got...
All of this would have been great... five or ten years ago. Rito, as a whole, is probably worried about grabbing attention in a wide market (hence the TFT-spam and the Worlds animations), and this was tied into their campaign to try and stay hip and 'presentable'. Problem becomes that they might be sweeping a chance to defy all the cool-factor pressure and turn it into a chance to prove they can do both. That they can be both cool and funny at the same time, and still fit a certain style... that they are slowly losing, on purpose or by accident... and might lose completely in this one fell swoop. Because if they stay the course on these redesigns they might iron out the last of what is ACTUALLY unique about this game.
And this is me actually trying to respect this game and genre, because I hardly do. :v

These two concepts are still early concepts as we see. Like they had shown various concepts for new Fiddle and Voli, they are also showing the current ones for Mundo so we can understand how he will turn out.
There is a long time before his rework, so we never know whenever he gets released.

It would be really interesting if Mundos abilities were each tied to a different body part and as he loses health those body parts fall off. So mundos goal is to stay at max health for as long as possible. Maybe even give him the ability to pick up the lost limbs to regain some health back and have a major buff to his regen/ult if he's lost all of the parts. For example if he Drops below 66 health Mundo loses his cleaver throwing arm, but if he can go pick it up he will gain back a portion of the health. Bonus points if he can pick up the wrong body part and start throwing cleavers from his legs.

What you are saying is, he becomes a sloppy meat when he is low, like how Zac becomes smaller as he drops health. This concept makes no sense at all and would literally change him totally, making a second Aatrox disaster.
They said Mundo will mostly remain the same in terms of gameplay, but he will be more stubborn to go wherever he pleases.
mundo mechanic: he should wear shirts that say i love "champion" and every time he ults he rips it off and gets a new one after his ult is over.
I think the idea they have could be good if they changed his face that is literally all that breaks it for me. He looks a lil too normal and i think it revolves around the face. The rest looks cool and I like it and it still has this "Way too mutated for his own good" vibe but the face should show a bit more disfigurement.

i think my major concerns with the design is it doesnt _look_ mundo. It just looks like a kinky e-boy with the personality of jhin ranting about how "pain is true art" or something like that. Mundo just likes pain, and wants to spread it to others in a horrifyingly disgusting yet somewhat innocent way. Mundo isn't evil, or at least, doesn't think he is.
That was old League of Legends though, they used to throw whatever against the wall and did what stuck, the LoL Universe used to be an inconcsistent, incoherent and chaotic mess. Like a huge crossover of different IPs. Like pairing Master Chief with Mario.
Riot Games has been making the Universe more consistent, like a teenager finally finding their true identitity. It happens to be more mature, badass, serious and cool with a loot of innovative cool looking things mixed in (Hextech technology, unique spirits and deities etc.).
I happen to prefer the more serious designs, I like the Mundo concept art, except for his head, I think it needs to look a bit rougher, crazier.
they also do this to sell to the Chinese public who consume this type of mobile game design (cool and sexy)
LoL universe used to be a LoL universe. 101 generic hotty designs isn't really a universe... They could've made it more coherent and consistent underlyingly, but being chaotic and all over the place is very sensical and interesting to an attempted depiction of a broad whole world, rather than, I dunno, a wrestling ring?

the only difference between now and then is that they've realised men don't have to be goofy, hideous monsters and that they'll always be more popular if there's more to them that people like aesthetically
riot have made very few monster champions as of recent years because the existing ones are underappeciated and if you're going to make a character, why not make one that sells well? it makes sense from a business perspective and they ARE a business, in the end
Old League lore was a chaotic mess. New League lore is dumb mess ducted taped over Old League lore with a few things hastily scribbled over.
I think the simplest example of this is the yordle lore change, in which they replaced yordles with a superficially similiar race and then shoe-horned all of the pre-existing yordle champions in this new role. They decided to force yordles into the role of magical creatures who live into the spirit realm when 4/13 yordles are explicitly inventors (Corki, Heimerdinger, Rumble, Ziggs) and 4/13 are soldiers (Kled, Poppy, Teemo, Tristana).
Of the yordles who are left, Veiger and Lulu explicitly use magic foreign to yordles, dark and fae respectively. Kennen originally was the Heart of the Tempest and presumably any Heart of the Tempest would be able to have similiar powers, though they have retconned it so that he is the only Heart of the Tempest.
And the remaining yordles are Fizz, a random aquatic yordle with vague command of sea life powers who I don't even believe was originally a yordle, and Gnar, a prehistoric yordle who is mostly a martial fighter but has the ability to transform into a rage monster and I don't even think if it is stated if he is the only ancient yordle with that ability or not.
The character that most strongly implies the magical nature of yordles isn't a yordle and could have easily been written to belong to any other race, even human.
And as for the new Lore being more mature, at least in regards to yordles, as much as the yordles they were jokes among the community, I would argue that they were among the most "human" of the characters. One of the piece of character lore I particular like that makes no sense with the new lore was Rumble: he was runt enough yordles, as was bullied for it. He compensated by being more resourceful than everyone and by tinkering and had the opportunity to study under Heimerdinger but refused because he thought yordle technology was superior and that yordles in Piltover were selling out their pride for superficial praise while they mocked yordles in general. He got in a fight with some heimerdinger's human students over a few choice words, and got beat up and so decided to make his mech to show what yordle technology could really do, and also presumably so that he wouldn't be so little any more.
There is also Teemo, with esp a meme, but I also enjoy his old lore. He is a member of the yordle special forces, who is superficially bright and cheerful, but he was also in lore a unrepentant killer who ruthlessly carry out any mission needed to protect his homeland, and he is proud of that. There is also the fact that he uses toxins and poisons, something that is usually associated with villain characters but with Teemo is presented far more neutrally.
They took a race of technologically advanced fuzzy gnomes with a theme of mocked and under-estimated (To some extent Kled and Poppy, but to a major extent Rumble, Veigar and Ziggs) and made them immortal fairies that live in the spirit world. When one of the yordles entire theme is that she companions with an immortal fairy that lives in a spirit world and her experiences there changed her perspection of reality to the point where see seems like a quirky girl, when it is somewhere between madness and being genuinely confused.

I agree with you Skyen. I would also add that this idea riot had would fit better on Singed. A mad scientist that uses chemicals to enhance his body but with the trade off he slowly burns his body away. Imagine the current singed , but when he uses his R he becomes something like this mundo interpretation (not purple) and after the effect is over he becomes a frail man again.

I feel your analysis of this Dr. Mundo concept art made me realize how some champion reworks have changed the identity of champions in ways I would have rather them not do. If they go with this concept, it'd feel like another attempt to make an ugly looking champion look badass which just completely ruins the character to me. We have enough attractive or awesome looking characters in the game, why do the champions that are made to be ugly keep getting reworked to be...well, not ugly?
Urgot is the prime example of this to me; he was a bloated ugly mess because he's meant to be the crippled disfigured dead body of a Noxian general given new life through freakish Zaun tech, but they completely got rid of that interesting concept in his rework. Dare I say they actually made him look attractive, he's just a badass muscular character now with a fairly normal looking body aside from the spider-like legs even though that's not what he was ever meant to be. This Dr. Mundo rework gives me those vibes and I hope they don't go with that.
I quite like it. I find Mundo to be one of those champs like Nidalee, in that, their in game voice lines do not fit their lore at all. His lore is really dark, and not at all silly, but in game his voice is silly, not really his design, his design is just plain mad. I like that they kept him big and muscular, but also made him a bit more intimidating and scary, like the lore suggests.

Kinda, and that is a problem sometimes, like in the case of mundo, where sizzle doesn't fit, skarner, rammus and Fiddles are examples of other champions where sizzle might not be the most fitting thing ever

To be honest, i do understand why they included a lot of the design elements that this design has. He got the asylum jacket because not only does it make clear that Mundo isn't an actual doctor like he used to be in the old lore, but a madman, who simply thinks he is one(also it emphasizes the bdsm-theme). The tag on his ear also shows that he comes from a facility where people were treated more like test subjects and these hextech-veins make him look way more like he belongs to Piltover and Zaun than his previous design. Overall I agree that the sillyness was reduced a lot with him, though this might have been done to appease to the fans who WANT Mundo to be a darker character(yes these people do exist, I've seen quite a few comments from people who do want Riot to play up the serial-killer-theme of him). I do wonder why Mundo doesn't wear a lab-coat, since it would fit his story and could have some joke-aesthetic too (like the whole "too-small-t-shirt-joke" you suggested or Mundo crossing out the original name on a nametag and writing Mundo over it, but spelling it wrong).
Also to be fair, you did miss one comical aspect of his design: The fact that his doctors bag includes a soup ladle!

The one design feature that makes me laugh my ass off the fact that the supposed ripped shoes is turning into like a flip flop. There is no way the design team didnt notice that.
Also I think that the concept art ties him into the world in a way that would make sense in it.
Let's not forget that Mundo is one of the very first champions ever released. League's lore and aesthetics have evolved so much (to the point of lore retconn). In the case with this new Mundo concept art, I think it's designed in a way that makes sense from a "what would a crazy, mutated madman from Zaun would look like?"
I personally think it looks okay. I can't really comment on the whole mobile game design argument but I do agree with the joke character part, though.
But Riot already said that he will continue to have a Goofy personality.
Yeah, and in terms of gameplay, he will mostly remain the same: He will have massive health regen, he will throw cleavers like crazy and he will go wherever he pleases, but more stubborn.

I’m just hoping they don’t fuck it up too much. Mundo was my first main and I had so much fun playing him as an unstoppable regen monster. Unlike Sion and Poppy, dr mundo is kinda supposed to be silly and dumb. That’s what made me main him, he was just that. Sion was an Arnold schrwarzneggar clone who just didn’t fit his lore and poppy was just straight up outdated. Please don’t make Mundo serious

But seriously, I get the point of a rework trying to achieve what the original failed, a rework can be a complete reinvention too. A lot of this kind of sounds salty, I think the rework has aspects of the original Mundo but better fits within the world building of league
In summary I get you don't like that he's not as funny looking anymore and you really liked the original theme, but it is always going to be easier to criticise than create (criticism is essential but this vid came across as a personal rant as you said at then end, rather than a review or genuine critique)
But yeah the hair is bad. Should have only done the one side and made it looked like he cleaved it off

Here's my take: Mundo should get the Kayn treatment.
I'm thinking Invader Zim style personality, in which he starts out as his human self, completely over the top mad scientist, control mage with Hex chemicals as his abilities. Similar to Ziggs.
Buffing allies with chems, or debuffing enemies.
lvl 4/6, he chooses whether or not to become the purple tank mundo, or remain as his human self.

Yeah Mundo is the last thing that keeps me playing League and the second I saw the concept art it was clear that they were taking all the things that make me like him from his design so... See you never Riot Games.
I think it would be a good idea with Dr.Mundo to go in a direction where you basically keep his baseline design and just change the proportions to a ridicoulous extend. Make his body much bigger and rounder with short arms short legs, a small head without a neck. The best visual representation of what i'm thinking of would be something like the yugioh card "il blud". Let him be this akira-type body horror character that roams the streets of zhaun at night. His design would be funny looking on the face of it, but absolutely terrifying to encounter. Also make him silent most of the time and just sometimes say something nonsensical, to suggest that he might have once been a person but whatever there was is lost at this point, and you can never be sure what he's thinking or if he's even thinking at all.
What they could do is have mundo be a grotesque slab of meat, as in deformed and baloonish with muscles and veins. Then have the eyes be a bit cartoonishly too popped out, and the iconic flappy tongue.
Maybe he was a test subject, a laughable idiot that happened to be the reject of some Zultanite experiment by a chem baron, things went wrong and now MUNDO MUNDO is running around as a giant dumb nuisance that's just an unkillable troublemaker. You could have a Tom and Jerry or Saturday Morning Cartoon type of lore story where he's not understanding how he's causing chaos as the chem baron's forces are just hunting him down and getting awed and frustrated beyond belief as they try zanier and zanier things to recapture this giant walking, violent, unkillable toddler.
Skyen I respect your opinion, but saying that mundos design was/is a mess Is something I can't get behind. Dr. Mundo is a physician, explaining the bonesaw and syringes. It also explains the s/m vibe. A doctor that inflicts pain, instead of healing it, is not something new and has been a stable "horror" concept for some time now. And his favourite test subject is himself.
The sillyness of mundo is just ironic sprinkles on top of his design and he can work as a serious character if you take that away.
Here is where I am stuck to understand as a game designer: you say his concept art is bad but you never really say why, instead you divert the spotlight to it being about his identity. And the problem I have is that anyone that plays league could probably tell that the concept art is supposed to represent Dr Mundo, and it's not like it's poorly made actually quite the opposite. And it even has some intriguing new additions to his design. So yeah idunno maybe i am crazy and don't get it. But regardless you should have probably criticized his design directly.
The most recent concept just looks like the second half of a facebook ad for an idle game, with actual mundo as the "level 1" version on the left side of the picture.
I would love to see a Mundo surgeon character who has to stitch on his body parts like a goofy Frankenstein monster. It would be awesome if he could "leave" arms and legs around the rift, sort of like Zac loses his blobs as a mechanic. Upon respawn he could crack a joke about needing a new arm and he saw a nice one on another champion, which would justify the cleaver. Like a silly Repo! man

Personal opinion, they might as well delete him as far as I'm concerned, such a cancerous champion in game mainly cuz his Q and R, his design his awful, his concept has no appeal, why does mundo even exist. The champion is meant to be a joke so idc tbh
But hey most reworks have been pretty awesome so, nevertheless, I'm curious.
Mundo's kit is simple and easy to counter. It's "baby's first tank" and relies on stat-checking the opponent a lot, but still has some outplay potential with Q. It's a champ for beginners and autofilled players that also serves as a fun "turn your brain off" character
I honestly like this design. You look at the design and know without anything being said, that it's Mundo. Yes he's purple yes he's still a hulking mass and he's supposed to be goofy because of his deranged mind
I hope they will keep his deranged personality like he would still say "Mundo X because he Y" in his dialogues and maybe new taunts/jokes because we know him like this for 10 years.
It is still kinda sad that riot sees the need to make every single champion - sorry, not sorry - "fuckable".
They did it with Swain, with Urgot, with Sion and now Mundo. I absolutely can understand that they do not want them to look as goofy as they looked before but all of these characters are supposed to be basically disfigured by their past. The only character that "survived" his rework still "fittingly ugly" was Singed and I hope that stays that way.
I dunno, I like his Gorillaz face, and how he burst his straight jacket sleeves with his hulk arms.
