    I love the long-form content, and in fact avoid IG and other short format sites bc it just isn’t in depth enough at all to really get the necessary insight… your content is absolutely fantastic and I appreciate the time you take and effort you make in giving us curly girls the tips we need. I have only recently started caring for my curls, so your tips and tricks have been hugely helpful to make progress.

    I love a steam refresh 🎉
    I have been using my clothes steamer (which I hardly used before) and it works great. Not as cute as the facial steamers but has a large water tank and does the job.
    I do get a lot of frizz with steam but that helps the curls reform and I find if I wait a few minutes after steaming it does settle a bit so then I can go in with gel or oil depending how much frizz is left.
    Thanks for your videos Sophie Marie, I find them so helpful ❤🙏🏻

      Do you find a clothes steam gets too hot? That’s why I was hesitant to buy in the past to use on hair, but could actually do with one for my clothes 😂 thanks so much ❤❤

    • @belindachappell9875
      @belindachappell9875 Před rokem +5

      @@sophiemariecurly I haven’t tried a facial steamer so I’m not sure of the difference but I’m assuming it is much hotter. I avoid getting too close to the nozzle and because the surface area of steam is greater you can stand further away and still get steam in your hair. I put it on the bathroom bench so the machine is stable and hover my hair over the steam. It also came with a fabric mesh cover to use when you steam silk and that kind of diffuses the steam and covers the metal on the nozzle so you can’t burn yourself accidentally. I certainly wouldn’t promote it as a hair steamer but I think if people use it carefully it’s ok. Also it works well on clothes 😂 😉 (sorry for the long answer)

    To my complete SHOCK (SHOCK I TELL YOU!!!!) This works PERFECTLY! I have very fine hair and 3C curls. I had to always completely wet my hair and diffuse it again in order to refresh it - a process that took somewhat between 40 min to an hour!
    I just got the facial steamer yesterday, tried it today in the morning and in less than 10 minutes - LESS THAN 10 MINUTES!!!! - my curls looked bouncy and ready to go.
    I am still in shock of how well this works.

  • @DanteVelasquez
    @DanteVelasquez Před rokem +2

    I'm so glad you made this video! I have been talking about using steam for years and you are the only other person I have ever heard discuss it online. My curl pattern is 3b/3c and my hair shafts are very silky. For some odd reason my hair likes to pretend its wavy (more like 2C) and when its wet it is so loose one would be surprised to see that it curls up to half an inch in diameter after its dried. Even when drying with the diffuser the roots don’t like to curl up as well all the time, especially in the drier times of the year. Another challenge is that my hair does definition so it tends to wind all around each other, clumps together, and gets very flat with no shape. I noticed that when I went to really humid places my hair always curled up to its tightest state and I always got the volume I wanted that didn't go flat, so I decided to test a steamer. What I do is after washing and conditioning I apply my product to wet hair, use the Denman brush in vertical sections to clump the curls together, hover diffuse and then scrunch at the end while still diffusing, go through all of the hair to separate the clumps of curls, and apply a root lifting product to all of my roots. Once the root lifter has dried I steam all of my hair. I use a portable hand held clothes steamer so that I can direct the steam at the roots, through the mid lengths and at the ends. I flip my hair forward and side to side and I keep the steamer moving to avoid burning myself. At first I did it quickly and didn't get as good results, but then I discovered that if I take my time to make sure the heat and steam touches every part of my hair then everything curls up perfectly. I make sure to put enough product on my hair before diffusing (which also took experimentation) and when I do successfully I get no frizz whatsoever from the steam. I put it in a high ponytail at night to sleep with a coiled hair tie, and on days 2 and 3 when I take it down I use the steamer to refresh, and because the products were applied properly from the beginning it re-activates them and I never need to use more, the frizz is minimal, and I get more volume at the top from it being in the ponytail overnight. the only thing I might add if my hair is feeling dry is to seal the ends with some oil. By day 4 usually it has gotten more frizzy just from time passing so I will use a water sprayer to refresh when I take it down, and I might again add oil if needed. I always wash my hair by the 4th or 5th day because I like how it looks better. Steaming also keeps my hair from clumping together as much so it doesn't go flat, and the root lifter helps with this. All of the steps I outlined took me a while to see were needed and if I remove just one I will not get the results I want. The steamer was the most important piece of the puzzle 🙂

    • @sophiemariecurly
      @sophiemariecurly  Před rokem +2

      ❤❤ a good hack btw for stopping the clumps re clumping is to take a pick or comb with longer teeth and apply some hairspray to the pick… then: once you’ve un-clumped the curls and want them to stay there you can glide the pick into the hair and shake slightly this helps coat the outside of the clumps with a tiny bit of grit which stops the hair getting too soft and reforming together. Because of the slight grit the separated are able to sort of layer on top of each other

    I'm intrigued by steam refreshing but I don't want to invest in a steamer and I don't shower at morning, so I guess I'll stick with my spray bottle and appropriate products. 😉 Have you tried applying leave-in conditioner or curl cream at night to help with refreshing in the morning? I've done that when I have a lot of flyaway frizz, sometimes with a little scrunching and/or finger curling. I put a shower cap over it while I'm getting ready for bed, then switch to my bonnet with a partial pineapple (cause my hair is too short and a full pineapple stretches out the curls too much). I figure leaving the product in over night might help it to absorb into my hair better. I did it last night and my hair looks pretty good today, even though it's time for a wash. 😉

    I've never steam refreshed but I find using a spray mister bottle with warm water gives the same affect. If I feel the need to refresh (very rare) I absolutely love going in with a lightweight foam compared to gel just because I feel I can more evenly distribute the product and the volume is amazing!

      I've got a face steamer coming today from amazon hope it works if not the steamer I'm getting you can also use it as a inhaler if you have congestion with a cold also use as a spar with calming essentials oils it has different attachments so if it doesn't work with my hair at least I've not wasted money. I use a spray bottle with rose water for my hair as we have hard water hear it smells lovely and it really does freshen up with curls. Loving your videos on hair ❤
