  • Welcome to this step-by-step Power Apps tutorial for beginners to advanced users. I will cover various topics related to building Canvas Power Apps - How to build a responsive screen in Power Apps, how to connect to a data source, how to build a responsive Gallery control and apply multiple filters to gallery data.
Firstly, I will show you how to create responsive canvas Power Apps and how to work with responsive design screen templates. I will also demonstrate how to use horizontal and vertical containers, which are essential tools in creating responsive layouts.
I will guide you through creating a responsive gallery control and filter panel and show you how to apply multiple filters to a Power Apps gallery. The filter panel (container) will allow users to make selections to search or filter gallery data. Additionally, the applied filters container will highlight the applied filters and users can remove specific filters or reset the filters if desired.
You will learn how to design PowerApps gallery to showcase it as a Table with responsive headers & how to search and filter power apps gallery data.
I will leverage Microsoft Dataverse as a data source. However, the techniques I will demonstrate can be applied to any data source, and I will also show you an example with SharePoint as a data source.

Your videos were suggested by a colleague working in another state and they weren't kidding when they said you'd be a good source to learn from!! I followed your video and created my first Power App! I had issues with the combo boxes connecting to columns other than the first column in the excel table I created but I got past it by creating another excel table with a list of choices for Priority and Status. I'm sure I'll figure it out later.

@@RezaDorrani Hi Reza, I was inspired by this excellent video to create a similar looking Screen, based on the 'Header, main section, footer' layout that you selected. In the main section, I inserted a gallery like you, then edited this gallery to add a horizantal container (just like your 'TaskDataContainer'). I added fields to this container as you did. I also added a checkbox control right at the beginning of this container, so I can select any particular row. Now, when you have a normal gallery (not with a container inside) and have a checkbox control, you can have a label outside of the gallery which can count how many records we have selected using the checkbox. The formula for that would be: CountRows(Filter(Gallery1.AllItems, Checkbox1.Value)) - so this would give you a count of how many records we have selected. This works fine. But in my example, based on your demo, where we have edited the gallery and added a container (TaskDataContainer) - if we add a checkbox there, and then use this formula, the label just displays the total number of records (8 in my case as I have 8 records in total), even though I have only selected just one checkbox. I have recreated the issue on totally separate screens also starting from scratch. It seems that whenever we have containers within galleries, it does this. Are you aware of this issue or have come across it before? If so, do you know of any clever formulaic way to overcome this issue? Or is this one of these 'features' that we just have to accept, and not have containers for each row of data? Thanks in advance.

Thank you so much for this excellent demonstration. The headers for the gallery a great, but I find that if you have more than three or for columns, the column headings don't stayed aligned with the gallery columns in smaller form factors, such as tablet. This is because the TemplatePadding of the galley puts padding on right and left, too. So the gallery heading container is not flush with the gallery template. Even if you try to put the same padding into the gallery heading container, they stop behaving the same once you get to point where minimum widths for the labels are cut off.

Its been a while since I did this so do not remember the specifics. That might very well be a limitation or there could be some advancements in containers that may help. I would recommend checking or posting your query on forums in case someone has done something similar

Nice Reza! I like your use of emoticons to show a filter is applied. I use an if statement on the Icon property to switch to a filled filter icon and an open one. But this makes it more clear which columns are filtered. Am I seeing it correctly you are using a tornado icon though?😂

@@RezaDorrani thank you for your response l learned responsive design by watching your vedios, I somehow did this like below
      1) Enable auto height for labels
      2) Refer Max height of each label's in container height by adding with it's Y axis value like max( Label1.Y+Label1.height, Label2.Y+Label2.height)
3)set flexible gallery height to container height.
With the above we can keep a flexible height gallery with the label's auto height enabled to show all the text in that label.

Reza, you are now my favorite bookmark for learning Power Apps and as always, this video was very helpful for a project I'm working on right now. The one thing I could not get to work is the StartsWith filter query against a SharePoint source. In the video you were using "Search" which I assume was against a Dataverse database. Is that correct? Do you have the delegable filter query you can use against a SharePoint list?
