Soundarya would address Udayakumar Sir as her brother. So, he laughed and told her to call him as a brother only among them and to address him as “Sir” in front of the others (even though he was always her brother till the end).
He introduced her in Ponnumani movie and so recommended her for the next movie of Chiranjeevi.
So he gave her the video cassettes of Savitri’s movies and asked her to watch them and she enacts similarly just for a scene in Ponnumani. Her family was not doing well financially at that time. After processing the film (just the scene) and watching it in a theatre, in Pollachi, along with Shivakumar, Manorama and Karthik, Manorama told to director, Udayakumar, “Soundarya will be as successful as Savitri, wait and watch”.
Whenever Soundarya used to face any controversies/rumors, Udayakumar used to go and solve them.
He couldn’t attend any of her events like the wedding and housewarming ceremony even if she forced him.
After finishing the shoot of the film, Aptamitra, she called and told him that she was 2 months pregnant. Also that she’d be going to Andhra Pradesh to campaign for the Bharatiya Janata Party along with her brother. The next day, he watched the news in shock and couldn’t digest the fact that she was no more. He still has the time stored in his phone when she had a talk with him and his wife, which was around 7-8 pm. In the end, he couldn’t attend any of her celebrations and only for her death ceremony. His photo was hung on a wall in her house where he was touched on seeing that.
Cinema is a world of emotions which cannot be forgotten. Manorama used to treat him as her own son. And he’d never miss out on her blessings while doing any film.

Please show appreciation to great individuals while they are living.. we do not know when one of us will be short lived. It was terrible to hear about her departure with much sorrow at that time and still greatly missed. Manorama also such a lovely lady, my mother was very fond of her and she died in Feb 2016 from cancer, a few months after the departure of Manorama. Lovely ladies.. i love all the great ladies, as a child, teenager and mother. Women are far better than men and they sacrifices so much for the family.
