Reminds me of when I was sitting on the back porch, enjoying a bowl of strawberries. Then a raccoon came on the bench, looking at me. So I put a strawberry between us and acted like I wasn't looking at it. Sure enough, the raccoon slowly approached and ate the berry. I gave it another one, and before I knew, I was hanging out with a raccoon, enjoying strawberries. But after a few minutes it ran off.

Back in the 90's we used to feed the Deer apples in the Adirondack Mountains that came right up to the car. It was a tourist attraction. It was very popular back then.

It's okay, there are tons of them to the point of overpopulation since we killed off all of their natural predators. A few banana-fed deer getting run over won't even make a dent in their overall number.

@@MarcustheseerIt isn't overthinking. It's called habituation. That's why you don't feed bears and other predators, too. They tend to attack humans and that leads to them being euthanized.
In this case it leads to cars hitting deers. There's literally no more basic a concept in wildlife management. By your definition any thinking is overthinking, bud. 😂

@@ShadeScarecrow Depends on the animal and the circumstances. It's always helpful to leave out feeders for birds.
And tame deer aren't a bad thing if they are in a quiet town with little roads, and no hunting allowed. Nursing home near where I used to live would leave out salt licks and feed them a bunch of corn all the time. A whole bunch of deer would always show up too. Another example is Japan. There are a ton of friendly deer there that people feed and they do just fine.

@@DerNomade1871 They also make for great hamburgers if you mix some of their minced meat with oil, eggs and spices. The oil really helps to get rid of the dryness of the low fat meat, I really recommend it if you have a lot of minced deer on hand. Plus the tenderloin, sirloin and round make for amazing steak. It's even a lot healthier than anything you could get at the store.

From the time I was small, my Mother taught me everything is hungry. Every night after diner, we would walk down to the woods together and drop off all compostable scraps in the woods. It was a lovely time just the two of us and taught me the importance of looking after our animal friends. Mid Summer or dead of Winter, it was our time.
During the bitter cold months, my Dad would drive the garden tractor to the woods, and dump giant bags of corn out every week. Being on a small flowing river, water was always there. In my dotage, I wonder how many animals went to sleep in those dark Winter months with a warm belly.
I have never lost that lesson for compassion for animals or those special times with my Mother.

churro recipe - 1 cup water (240ml)
- 2 tablespoon unsalted butter (28g)
- 2 tablespoon sugar (13g)
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
Medium heat
After boiling turn the heat down
- 1 cup all-purpose flour (120g)
Stir immediately
When its smooth and pulls away from the pan its done
Bring pan to towel or surface. And press down
Let it cool for 5 minutes
- 1 large egg (50g)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Mix
The mixture will separate at first but keep mixing.
It will come together soon.
This step will take a few minutes but when the dough is done.
It will be smooth and will pull away from your pot and spatula
2 piping bags and a star tip
Use 2 layers of piping bag because the dough is thick
5 inch strips on nonstick pan tray
Cut ends with sciccors
- Vegetable oil for frying
Heat oil to 350F
Use thermometer to check the temp
Drop churros
Each churro will fry for 5 minutes
Turn the churros half way
The color will be gold when done.
Dry one towel for a few seconds
Cinnamon Sugar:
- 1/2 cup sugar (100g)
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
Role each in tray or tubwear of sugar.
Chocolate Dipping Sauce:
- 3 oz bittersweet chocolate (85g) in bowl
- 1/2 cup heavy cream (120g)
Dont let it boil
Add cream in bowl and mix until sauce like. Then serve

I grew up in a rural town surrounded by wildlife, one of the first things my parents taught me is to never interact with or feed wild animals, just appreciate their beauty from a safe and respectful distance.

It's super cute and I don't mean to be a stick in the mud, but these little guys (while skittish) can be quite docile, as you can see.
Thing is, is that deer (especially the babies) tend to get lulled into a false sense of security with humans when the latter reach out to them and interact with and feed them. It makes them easier targets for hunters/poachers when they're less prone to take cover in the presence of humans.
Best thing to do is to avoid them unless it's absolutely necessary to get them help, such as in a real emergency situation.

Also protip: If you see deer on the side of the road honk your horn and 95% of the time it will scare them and they will run the other way. Also where there is one deer there is probably more so keep your eyes open. Use highbeams at night. Not only does it make visibility better the light also reflects of eyes of animals.
@@brownsey1 No they say not to feed wild animals so they don't start associating humans for food and come in and overrun cities/towns. Wreaking havoc on property, creating hazards and so on. For example if you keep feeding a bear it's going to start to hang around populated areas with humans more creating a very dangerous scenario.
