TAS: Tool-Assisted Speedrun
Something a little bit out of the ordinary from me, but not quite brutal doom levels of weird. Creating a demo like this was basically impossible with the previous tools available, because frequent use of segmenting is necessary, and for long levels with a lot of monsters the load times get extremely tedious. However, recent improvements to segmenting has made stupid things like this possible.
I took damage at 2 points from damaging floors, first at 46:27, maybe I could have avoided it with some perfect timing, doesn't matter as there's another point at 1:42:25 where there's absolutely no way to avoid the damage. Obviously no IDDQD cheat is used, whenever I got hit I would simply re do it until I didn't get hit.
Nightmare is probably impossible with TAS, I don't think there's a possibility to get past the hell knights at 1:50:00 because of respawn. This map uses -complevel 9 or boom, which has a different respawn mechanic, in vanilla a monster will not respawn if it's starting place is blocked by another monster. In boom however the monster can spawn on top of another monster causing them both to get stuck. So you have a massive wall of health you need to get through both ways with no way to move around it. (edit: actually I have an idea that might work, but I have no plans of actually trying it.)

The midi in oku2v31.wad got copyrighted, so I tried to replace it with the same midi that azu used in his UV-Max TAS. Of course youtube's copyright detection is complete trash so that one got falsely copyright claimed by AdRev Publishing, nice scam. Thankfully KoD has several other great midis, so hopefully this will do.

You got hit!: What happens when you get hit? That's right, you take damage, which only happened twice on damaging floor. This alone proves that I didn't get hit, but what if I modified the game to take 0 damage when hit or edited the video? Well in that case you can take the demo file where all my inputs are stored and play it back for yourself! It would be completely impossible for me to cheat like that as it can be easily checked by anyone. As for IDDQD it's impossible to include it in a demo and it would have been extremely obvious if I actually did get hit. It's also possible to see every projectile from a free camera view when playing the demo, obviously that isn't necessary as the game tells you if you got hit or not.
You cheated, this isn't real: No shit, I have TAS in the video title, I have "This is a Tool-Assisted Speedrun" in the video description, what could that possibly mean? At no point have I ever claimed to dodge 10000's of projectiles in real time for 3 hours straight in a single segment, it's literally impossible to reach the mastermind at the start doing that. So what does TAS mean? In this case the main feature that is used to achieve this is something called rewind or segmenting, and as I explained, whenever I take a hit I simply go back until I didn't take a hit and try again. This is incredibly easy to do. Take damage - rewind back a second - try something else - make progress or repeat until progress is made.
Why didn't the hit register??: Sprite size does not equal hitbox. Mancubus projectiles are much larger than their hitbox, so even if it looks like I should have gotten hit then that doesn't make it so.
Claiming someone is cheating in a TAS is incredibly dumb, a TAS would be a cheated run if there is no mention of TAS being used. So TAS is using features that would otherwise be considered cheating, so essentially it's like saying: "You're cheating in this run which you are saying is intentionally cheated". However it's is and has always been clearly labelled as a TAS, it would actually take a lot more effort to cheat by video editing or modifying the game etc. - Hry
to any idiot that's going to make variations of 1 of the following comments: "iddqd?", "you got hit", "you took damage", "hits don't register" please read the video description, if you still have questions then get a new brain instead of accusing someone of cheating in a TAS, because I have no idea how to help you.
I have been a part time Doom player ever since it came out. This is the most high level - in the zone - game play I have ever seen. Are you considering playing it where you could take damage?

It's quite the opposite in many situations. Staying still with well-controlled small steps allows to funnel a dense flow of projectiles and helps keeping things ordered and predictable. Taking an invisibility powerup againt a wall of mancubi is a suicide for the same reason.
It's not about being frantic.
It's about control.

The last one is however less true, deppending how close you get to the demons/they get closer to you
It is also good for beginners who dont know how to dodge, altough that deppends on how new you are.

People refer to the songs as specifically being MIDIs because most MIDI songs tend to be quite different from other types of songs (due to their technological limitations and what types of things still use them rather than the generally superior .mp3 format)

@@saddane6897 Doom's original hit detection isn't perfect, things like projectiles sailing through targets, or even solid walls, is not uncommon (look up the Blockmap Bug), and can even be more common in certain spots in certain maps.
For splash damage, the only things in the game which do splash damage is rockets from the player or Cyberdemon, barrels exploding, the Arch-Vile's magic attack (where you can actually avoid the splash damage if hit by using a very simple exploit, thus only taking half damage), and the explosions when the Icon Of Sin dies. Nothing else in the game does splash damage, even things which look like they would.
Give me a timestamp of something you think looks suspect in the video.

The creator of this map is a genius. The fact that, with TAS, it can be done No-Hit, highlights even more how amazing its construction is.
i wouldn't argue that really. there's no doubt the wad is pretty well made, but TAS allows for obscenely advanced techniques that you cant do in real time; like precise RNG manipulation in order to control hitscan and projectile calculations.
So technically, TAS = cheat, innit?
@@cybershadow tas means you’re not even playing it per say, you’re using a tool to set each frame’s input. It’s not a cheat, because it’s not a human player. It’s a seperate category to show what is theoretically possible

@@martinvasilev6099 That's the in-game time, but TASes, especially something as perfect and as hectic as this, literally mean you're breaking down every feasible frame and either calculating or trial&error-ing every possible outcome, which with the plethora of different actions and decisions you can make, would realistically take wayyyyyyyy longer than what the in-game time is.

Its fast monsters enabled. This means they will not walk for a brief time and then shoot. Their reaction time is set to 0 i believe.
Keep in mind, reaction time means how long will they walk before they can fire again

I just got recommended this video recently and I must say that it is the most insane WAD I have ever seen. I started my Doom journey with Doom 3 of all things many years ago, but holy hell this is the kind of action I hope gets added into Doom Eternal at some point.

What you're describing is not difficulty, it's muscle memory.
I never realised just how ridiculously insane this map was. I'd heard of it, and saw a few bits of gameplay but this is the first time I saw it in its entirety. Now I get the "but why??" reaction this map got when it came out. Props to the legend ZeroMaster for what he did here.
