  • Spoiler alert! Asher asked me to marry him and I said "YES!" We absolutely loved getting back on land after our 31 days at sea crossing the Pacific Ocean and had the most incredible off-the-grid experience with local Marquesan couple Tangi & Ana. Big shout out to our Patrons for making that happen.

    I thoroughly enjoyed this adventure. I have seen many other channels anchor at this Island but yours is the first to actually immerse yourselves into the local culture. I really enjoyed the hiking and collecting the indigenous foods and then bringing it all back and preparing them. I really felt apart of the culture and see it as a very simple and peaceful lifestyle. Additionally, I love this island because it has different climates from beaches to mountains, all of which I just find very comforting and peaceful. THe connection with nature and the people is what it's all about and I greatly appreciate you sharing it with me. Blessings, Peace and CONGRATULATIONS on your engagement!!!

    Guys, I have been binge-watching your exploits over the past week with admiration, fascination and not a little jealousy! Given the plethora of video journals available I reckon your Bacchus chronicles are among the most engaging, informative and inspiring that I have seen. Thanks for the excellent viewing, and from a fellow kiwi (& yachtie), please accept my heartfelt best wishes to you both for an exceptional life together. Congratulations :)

    Just stumbled onto your Chanel and am really enjoying it. I have a boat at shelter bay marina on the hard. As I got stuck there at the beginning of Covid (March). I came back to Canada but am itching to continue, also heading for NZ as that’s where I’m originally from. I’m really interested in what we’re the hoops you had to jump through regarding leaving Panama and entry into French Polynesia? Thanks and safe travels.

    • @sailingbacchushome944
      @sailingbacchushome944  Před 3 lety +1

      The hoops were not too difficult - clearing out of Panama was easy from Shelter Bay; make sure you get a zarpe before you go through the canal. We heard it was a mission to organise this on the Pacific side. And then for French Polynesia, we had to apply in advance for permission to enter (before we left Panama). As we were ultimately heading for NZ, they didn't have any problems. We got confirmation by email we could enter after about 48 hours, and then we've just had to do the usual formalities on arrival here. Good luck!

    Dani, have you ever tried gingernuts for sea sickness? This is not a joke, punn or dig but I have had them recommended and I've seen that you've suffered so wondered if you had an opinion on the whole gingernut/Sea sickness topic!

    • @sailingbacchushome944
      @sailingbacchushome944  Před 3 lety +1

      My mum loves gingernuts, i've never been such a fan, unless i'm having a cuppa, then i can dip it in and make it soft. So in answer to your question, for sea sickness, no, i haven't tried them. But i made a batch of ginger kombucha and that seems to be pretty good. That said, i havent had much sea sickness lately (hallelujah!) long may it last!

    Congratulations guys really pleased for you both and what an amazing spot you found really interesting video.
    I have asked this question on one of your older videos but probably likely to far back to get answered so here goes again.
    Question about your choice of boat...any particular reason for Bacchus. I’ve been watching your channel with interest as maybe I have wrongly assumed that Beneteau don’t have a great reputation for quality...I’ve heard and read in multiple places about Beneteaus loosing their rudder at sea for no apparent reason...even caused the sinking of 2 boats...all out there on google. So my point is I’ve been somewhat put off by these observations. Did any of these things factor in your decision making? People I’ve spoken to always swear by rudder on skeg so far less chance of loosing the rudder.
    I’d like to hear your perspective.

    • @mcouture8169
      @mcouture8169 Před 3 lety

      They may have heard the same thing, as they did build an emergency rudder (can't remember which episode) just in case this happens. If any boat has an issue such as this, the rudder could always be pinned and checked every few years.

    • @sailingbacchushome944
      @sailingbacchushome944  Před 3 lety

      Asher here - my early offshore miles, as crew, were all on Beneteaus, between New Zealand and the Pacific Islands. We had plenty of grotty weather on those passages (typical for that stretch of ocean) and the boats performed well in high winds and heavy seas, including being knocked-down. That gave me some confidence in the manufacturer. Bacchus has not given me any reason to doubt that she's strong enough for the job. I keep a close eye on the chainplates, bulkheads etc for any signs of cracking or delamination. If you saw how much sweat (and swear words) went into removing the rudder when we changed the bearings, you'd be confident that it isn't going to fall out any time soon!
