water base is crap, in winter the water is frozen and cannibals comes XD
BTW logs on zipline is much faster than running them to the water all the time!

When its winter, and the lakes freeze over, you can just free build on the ice like its normal land. Once the ice melts, the base is still there, free floating on the water. You can continue to build on it, but you cant expand it.

the frozen lake is double edged, you won't have easy access to water.. wish they gave us some method of breaking the ice

Top tip, if you have the zip line gun already you can use it not only to move yourself over the water but you can also use them to send logs to the other side. We've used this to reduce the time it take to get logs back to base as this is the sons of deforestation after all

There is a River/Lake spot not far from this one. Its to the west were you find the modern axe. That river spot has the perfect water depth and size so you can build your base in the middle of it. Its more like a little lake but it counts as river and so it does not freeze

@@wehavenovisions You can find the spot in kaids Location guide, top 5 best base locations. I think its number 2 and he calls it water base. There are areas that are too deep to build, at least i could not do it. But the area in the middle is perfect you simply build a log structure just a little bit under the water at the river edge, then you can make your way to the middle by placing log squares.
FYI you can zipline the logs. They can even drop into log storage

Find that spot is prone to Kelvin glitches. He gets stuck in the water where there are hard edges and he sinks to the bottom of the lake, lol.
You can send logs to the island with zip lines
Pardon me friend, do you know how to make zip lines in the game? All my google/CZcams searches ended up all being about the rope gun, do you need that to make stationary zip line platforms?
There are no stations. You only use the gun

I live exacly on the same island lol, you dont need Bridge but its ok, the enemies cannot swim, only in the winter the lake is frozen they can cross to your island but if you sleep 4 days the lake will be unfrozen and you are safe again. Easy

literally my 1st base location, I just used the zip line to transfer logs across instead of the bridges and use that until winter came. Hands down best base location in the game if you are new to forest.

I used this island also, you can throw logs across the water and drag them while swimming by spaming E. I built a basic shelter at first then used the winter to haul logs across the ice and expand

i tried to build a base there as soon as i found this island, thinking it would be "safe". BUT.
- once, cannibals spawned onto the island while i was on the land shore.
- during winter time the lake freezes and they can just walk to the base.
except even at late game the ai does nothing. we built here my buddy forgot to turn his game off over night we came back on day 87 hardest difficulty and they managed to break 1 wall in the time duration. the cannibals and mutants arent even a concern its half of why this one is so boring.

@@xartu2973 probably a troll. 1 wall over the course of so many hours without interference doesn't seem plausible. I've had the entire back of my house taken out by a single canibal while I was fighting the rest of the group in front of the house so I'm not buying that guys comment lol.

Water base is fun half of the time. The other half of the game is the locals trolling you because you thought building in water would keep you safe during winter.
In winter I would suggest to explore the map xd

My friend and I spent a while trying to make a base on the island. We didn't realize you could use the lookout tower

I did this the first play I had of it. I loved it. I was trying to do the rope bridge but in the end I just make a bridge across the ice and it stayed through the summer.

With the steep shores, it's a good trap for companions.. especially Kevin is stuck in lake for half the time.
Could of just built a zip line and sent logs across using that. But sweet build. The way the logs float/bounced through the water was funny

What great clickbait
Instead of building the bridge you could also just set up a zip line and send the logs through it. That way you won’t have to worry about cannibals and mutants using it to get to your base.
Mutants can't get to the island base but ziplines are option as well.
I built there as well but I walled off the entire island. And I use zip lines for in and out in towers I built as well as wood transit. After I had my island set winter froze the water and I had a huge problem. Now I’m safe…. I think

There is a away to build in the water without using the tower also once the winter comes and the water ices over the cannibals and mutants can walk on it.
To be able to build in the water its best to wait for the lake to freeze over so u can walk onto it. Place square foundation on land on the floor near the edge of the lake then start adding to it to make it longer as you start doing this it will place a pillar in the ground for you but it only goes to a certain depth more then deep enough for the cannibals to not be able to get to you once you have got out into deep enough water you can remove the land foundation and then you are left with a foundation built into the lake.

We also Built at that lake, a base on land protected by the water (untill winter, so now we also have a wall there, and still planning to build a retreat point on the island, so This'll come in handy

Wow! I remember making an island base a little far off the beach similar to this lake base in this video, but in the first game. I first started off making a raft with a logholder built on top to transport the logs over to the island since I didn't have enough materials for a zip line to start with. Once the zipline was up and running tho, sending logs to build things was much easier. I'm actually looking forward to trying the sequel if I do have the time.

There is a bug u can abuse just throw logs into the water they ll jump like on a trampolineand bounce to the island works best with 2 players one receiving and 1 sending. Kelvin can just chop the whole forest.
Worth adding it would be a good idea to set up a wood storage on the outside edge of the lake, so Kelvin can give you logs, so if you add a zipline between the lake base and the lake edge, you could quickly transport logs in.

i did the same bridge, but Kelvin and Virginia cant cross the bridge, they go only upstairs.
This game has a huge potential , developers should make some improvements in oncoming patches .

you can build a base INSIDE the ice caves, the ones with no loading screen and its a really good spot cause they only have one way in to get you

For anyone who doesn't know you can actually build on water and expand but its a very annoying process. Basically just put a log down as close as you can to the water. Then place a log off the corner as if your building a stairs and that log will go into the water, then if you crouch walk on the slanted log you can lift it up. Few things to note is the deeper the water the harder it becomes because if your character moves then it messes up, which turns into a really weird placed log and the support log going flying across the water... Again very very annoying but it can be done and a mate and myself have done it. But the easiest thing we have done is build in the winter when its frozen and then when it melts it should stay there. Little bit worried and update will come out and fix the floating bases tho so be careful.
I tried this at first, but I didn't work for me.
This is the best building spot imho because you don't have to worry about getting attacked for a few seasons. Also, I started using the rope + bridge idea you have here to make entrances and exits out of my compounds because we can't make wall exits. Only negative is the islands super glitchy and Kelvin and Virginia have a habit of just vanishing underground.

Press "G" to drop logs. It's much faster than opening inventory.

2:46 you have to put studs to the wall if you want to place and stair and you dont need that many studs on the base structure you can put supporting half woods to the 1. Stud and place do it how you normally do and when you finish put another support half wood to the end stud and you can remove all the studs between them

Its a big mistake not being able to build on water, means this island is rapidly going to become the most popular basesite in the game...a bit like geeselake in the first the forest game...

i already built here before watching this video. just wait for winter and the water to freeze and put a log down flat on the ice between island and mainland. then connect the rope to that and build your bridge that way. you dont need to waste 100 logs on an eyesore tower prefab and it looks WAYYYY better. the bridge will float right on the water's surface. and you can make it as long as you want by just adding more single logs and connecting more rope

You know you can also walk across the rope of the rope bridge with out putting the boards down making it safe or remove boards and jump across the empty spots

instead of telling kelvin to drop the logs, you can also tell him to finish structure witch will make him teleport the logs from the main land to the tower
Zipline worked better for me And also send logs down it. I dont really get hassled by mutants on the island just when I'm on the main land they come in groups of 7 or 8 witch is different from the first

I have a dumb question, cuz i never played a Forest game before. ....why do u need to build a bridge?.. u can simply swim to ur camp, but canibals cant ...so in my mind ..no bridge is safer? 🤔

You can actually build the rope bridge both ways not just one way, it's a little weird however since the logs you place will teleport to the other side and build the other side first, just aim at the rope...
I think they updated it since you posted this because I can’t get my lookout tower to turn white to build in the water. Only actually on the land because the island has too much of a slope.
My first base I built here, and I didn't know about winter, when it came I realised I'd built my walls up to the water assuming I'd be safe and the ice had made half my walls into open doors 😂

You can create a bridge without using a watchtower. There is a place on the island that is close enough to reach the shore.

Or you could just wait for the lake to freeze over carry the logs over and make a wall use your rope gun and make a zip line or two from mainland to the island so then you don’t need to farm as much

This is great for 3 seasons of the year in the game - but in winter the lake (and most of the other fresh water in the game) freezes over and the mutants/mud people/cannibals can just run across and attack!
Yes, abandon that base during winter, go nomad or build a few structures near a food bunker. You could also sleep a lot to skip winter faster,but enemies will grow stronger...
The rope bridge can reach without the lookout tower if you put them across the shortest gap (bit to the right of where you are).
And you dont need the wall to be 7 high. you can do it with one log on the ground.
I tried all spots but it didn't work for me.

U dont need a bridge, u can use zipline to transver logs from island to ur base, u can do same thing with ur character, easier and faster way to do it and canibals cant get to u

Just a little heads up, in winter time the lake freezes, enemies will be able to cross the lake when it’s frozen, keep that in mind.
Also watch out that when the ice melts your companions should NOT be on the ice…I lost Kelvin AND Virgina like that, they stood on the ice right when the ice melted, now both of them are stuck on the bottom of the lake…

Why can’t I build a rope to climb up like your bridge at the mainland side not the island side? Or rather how do I? Quite confused
Only issue I’ve had with this location is that when winter ends and the ice melts, Virginia gets stuck underwater. Does anyone know a fix for this?
i was able to build off a tiny rock just enough for 1sqaure and from there made it a 3 by 3 and logs was force in to the water and stuck in :D built it by the gaint water fall my self after i got base in turned it in to a nice 5by5 and go's to the top of the gaint water fall drop

you can build to this island to with just the rope bridge. just have to position it at the other end, and the ropes well just reach the shore.

I like the rope bridge. That's pretty slick. It's way more secure, and a heck of a lot cheaper, than a log frame bridge.
How's the lake/pond in the winter? Does it freeze to ice? Not often, but I have encountered frozen water. Can the baddies cross the ice?
In the winter, the lake freezes and cannibals can cross the ice to the island...so you better get nomad during winter, or build a hunter's lodge near a bunker with food/other items(the green spots on GPS) to not loose the structures built on the island. You will find them untouched in the spring. At least you are safe 3 seasons!

Spot is nice but enemies will spawn on the Island if you are further away from it.

Came looking to see if there were possible ways to build a water base. This is not a water base, it's an island base. There's a difference. Conclusion: there's currently no way to build an actual water base.
Edit: you CAN build water bases by waiting for winter time before building the foundation. As the game is now, it stays in place after the ice melts.

Ziplines are much more effecient, they cost way less an you can transport logs on the. That way you can wall the entire islan and you are safe when the lake freezes
@Konstantin You have to loot a special gun from a cave. Kage848 shows how in a couple of his CZcams videos.
Can the rope be used as a zipline?
only thing is I think that area is by a village or spawn point. i had 2 attacks in one night from separate groups then the next day they sent more and a mutant who one hit part of my defense wall and then roflstomped me
For some reason my rope doesnt connect from one side of the bridge to the other therefore I cannot finish my bridge. Any ideas? Too far away? Uneven heights?
