I honestly think i wouldn't have minded this game if it hadn't purported to be a Jak and Daxter game. As psp games go, it wasn't bad- the powers were reasonably inventive, the air combat was alright, and the guns, though simple, felt decent. But then you think back to JAK AND DAXTER- two of the most amazing characters of the ps2 era, and probably of all time. We all know that the series picked up after they added Dark (and Light) Jak, and not only was it a completely negligible decision to get rid of him, but the logic they used was some of the most nonsensical I've ever seen. They got rid of far too many interesting recurring characters, and when you think about the dune buggies in Jak 3, the planes pale in comparison. But the worst part is, if Naughty Dog doesn't pull another out of the bag, this is going to be the last Jak game ever made. and THAT is a very sad thought. :-(

Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy was one of the first games I owned for the PS2. And since then, Jak and Daxter has always been my favorite franchises. I now own every game in the series (including this one) and I enjoyed this new addition to the series.
The one thing I hated more than anything about this game was the whole dark daxter shit. It took jak 2 YEARS of dark eco exposure to develop his dark powers, and daxter gets them after falling into dark eco? WHAT?!? And didn't daxter already do that?? Is it not the entire reason he's an ottsel?? Bullshite. And jaks voice actor is gone, I'm not having that shit. And how can eco be running out? The whole series is about saving that shit from the metal heads. I don't understand this world anymore with these crazy game butchering developers.
I'm a big Jak and Daxter fan, and I enjoyed this one. My favorites where the eco powers, and Dark Daxter. If another Jak and Daxter game were to be made, I hope they make those even better
It was ported to the PS2 and I picked that version up and played through a little bit of it (I hit a point where it became painful for me to play it) and here's what I think about the game, they eliminated too much from Jak by getting rid of his Dark and Light Eco powers, the story seemed a bit too forced, they didn't include enough recurring characters and over all it felt like Spyro and Crash Bandicoot where an excellent series was created and when the creators felt they could go no further with the series they left it and another company picked up the series and made a game that fails to live up to expectations from previous games in the series just to try and milk the cash cow.
***** Actually when Naughty Dog decided to leave Jak and Daxter Behind they sold the rights to the series, from the Bbeginning Naughty Dog only ever intended for it to be a three part series, Jak X was made as a sort of farewell to the characters. Naughty Dog had nothing to do with this game Sony licensed the game to High Impact games. Naughty Dog did help publish Daxter but that was the last time they did anything with the characters.

petplatypus I am glad they do as they do not milk the games, Id rather see new gameplay and IP's than recycled assets, they do use their franchises tho, Uncharted and LBP, Killzone and InFamous just came out and I would not be surprised if Resistance will be announced again, also I want more games rather than the same, Media Molecule and Guerilla Games are creating different games so expect goodness there..

You are much to kind to this game. TLF is CRAP. I've been playing Jak and Daxter for 14 years. I've grew up the games, they were my childhood and TLF is a sorry Addison to a great franchise.

I loved Jak and Daxter: The Precurser Legacy. It was an amazing game for its time! I think the J&D series should have stuck with it's simple, quest-like roots.
I got be honest guys, I went on a whim and bought it for the ps2. I'm really liking it! As a Jak and Dax game, I will admit it's not a lot like it and not a good one. BUT, as a game, a regular o' game, it's pretty darn fun! It just fails at being a J&D game. No open world exploration, more like levels like a R&C game. But I'm pleasantly surprised. Only issue I got is the terrible camera position.
I didn't mind the gameplay too much for a game that was made for the PSP(Yes I know there's a PS2 version), but the story really put a damper on things. If Naughty Dog was ever to make something like Jak 4, I would really hope they opt out The Lost Frontier's story from being canon. It just adds and answers so much in the series in such a bad way.
In MY opinion, I think it would really suck if they proved or disproved Jak's being Mar. I like the fact that it's a mystery, as to where some believe he is, or people like me, who just believe that Jak and Mar have the first name.
Miguel Condado Olivar It is bad, it could've WORKED IF DID THESE THINGS, Put more MONEY and time into it and make the developers PLAY ALL OF THE JAK AND DAXTER GAMES! Then make them or recreate and make a story and push the limits of the hardware, try to make segments replace gun fight with semi THIRD PERSON SHOOTER! Not top down and use the buttons as a well to aim. Make the guns work that way and have camera mode that allows to see head and freely move it.
Veri Nyce I wished they atleast made a port of the first game on PSP. They should've played Jak and Daxter series 1 to 3 on the PS2 then make the game, atleast they would have a feel and controls of the previous games

Veri Nyce I know right? I find this game is behind crued and someone forgot to play the trilogy of games. The trilogy of games are great. The PSP version crashes so damn much as well. It is a technical FAIL! To me a game developer should always play past games before taking on that person's game IP. im starting to miss this game it was pretty fun outside of the combat it would have been fine but enemies were just too time consuming to kill not to mention we went from 12 guns from jak 3 to 4 in tlf which i can forgive IF I HAD A GODDAMN PECEMAKER "say guys lets replace the srongest gun with one that lobs a weak grenade like 5 feet" whoever had that idea can burn in hell
so instead of light/dark jak, he has some neutral abilities like slowing down time and the whole force field thing along with the green pillars. im sure that when you play the game, everything will answer it self.
@cottonwell The PlayStation 2 version of "Jak and Daxter: The Lost Frontier" never made it to Platinum/Greatest Hits, and so it was never reduced in price officially. Still a very fun game to have, though, just not as good as the original four titles.
wow jak and dater have come a long way since the originals, jak 1 2 and 3. They made flying ones, racing ones, its all so different. i liked the first 3 better

naughty dog haven't said that they've quit on jak 4 yet. they said they were struggling with a good story alongside a lot of other elements which have unfortunately escaped me. at least it shows that they care more than high impact

SPOILERS you make it sound so simple; the story still had some unanswered questions that badly need answering like how did young jak end up in haven city? what happened to jaks mother? and why is his apparent uncle in sandover village (jak and the explorer really look related).
man its been so long since I played Jak and daxter The Precursor legacy. I think that each of the first 3 were good in there own way. First one was great to start the story as a nice pretty paradise. Second one had a dark twist to things, had guns, had jak talk, had deep story and was reallly hard. The 3rd game was a good balance of everything. It had more guns, more vehicles, light jak, lots and lots of story plots and twists
In the next game they should have some effort, I mean something cool, in which you could join the combat racing (Jak X) as a minigame and you could play it as the traditional way. I mean, give jak with dark eco powers again, and this time, new and better powers. I expected more from them, and I was so freaking excited when I heard naughty dog was developing a new game last year, but then realized it was "The Last of Us" good game tho, but as many people, I am still waiting for a new jak game.
This game had a huge god of a game series to live up to. Too be honest, I was expecting something worse. The game is decent, not as good as 3 but still it was a fairly entertaining game, at least for me.
Personally , I enjoyed this game. I liked how you could upgrade rides, use cool eco skills, play Dark Dax, etc. The only things that bother me are the inability to go Dark Jak, the lack of characters from the original games, and, most of all, it's length. Everything's rushed and there is no foreshadowing whatsoever. But I'm glad there was another J&D game. I was sad when it ended but now I hope it can go on through HIGH IMPACT GAMES. They really did an awesome job.
The gmeplay itself hasn't changed much really. All they added was Dogfight combat, Dark Daxter, Different Colored eco powers, and thats pretty much it.
Ratchet and Clank: Secret Agent Clank, Ratchet and Clank: Size Matters,Phineas and Ferb: Across the 2nd Dimension, assisted with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 on wii,and some planned games. I listed them, didn't say they were good. Also the company was composed of former Insomniac and Naughty Dog members.
Yeah, I aggree that going from the lighter original game to the darker sequel was a bit too fast but I still think that the darker Jak 2 wasn't bad and should have came sometime (maybe it sould have been the third or fourth instead of second) but like you said everyone has their own opinion.
Yeah but as an Ottsel/Precurser, being exposed to more dark eco. Could turn him into a dark maker, Now why doesn't daxter turn into a dark maker instead? because that was an early stage, If he was like this forever he would've turned into a complete Dark maker forever! So if you think happens to daxter when touching more dark eco well remember what Jak says to daxter in Jak 3? "Who knows what ore dark eco can do to you" And this is what happens.
Like i said, the Jak and Daxter series is one of my most favourite, seeing as the first ps2 game i played was in fact Precursor Legacy. But i think that they hav stretched the series out too far, sure there r still fans of it, but the jak and daxter hipe is long gone. Until they make another well worthy title for jak and daxter i think that this game should be the last.

i agree. Jak 3 just might be THE best game I have ever played, believe it or not. the gameplay was excellent, the storyline intense and the conclusion extrememly satisfying. and now we have this new game, that has nothing at all to do with the actual storyline, and having just found out that Jak is actually the legendary Mar, it's kind of stupid having to go back to spin-kicking animals and firing a shitty version of the original scatter gun to kill enemies.
I didn't actually consider it a bad game. It's nothing compared to the original games but it is quite entertaining. I had problems with the camera angles , the Dark Daxter & a few other minor things but other than that I didn't HATE it. I just prefer the others more.

i am very happy that jak and daxter is on the psp and is realy fun but somethings i had problems with was he looks kinda like a kid with no goatee no dark jak..and they took out the legendary peacemaker...its the purple gun if you forgot. overall its awesome
Seriously, what's with all the hate with this game? I for one enjoy it a lot. It felt like I was playing the first J&D and Jak 2 at the same time. I think the ONLY reason why the people who dislike this game, dislike it because it's not developed by Naughty Dog. So what if it's not developed by Naughty Dog. It's STILL a great game. People just can't accept change. "Oh look, a new Jak game! Wait, it's not developed by Naughty Dog? Then I don't want it".
@supermariolucas dude ya know they actualy had a jak and daxter movie. they took the cut scenes and some gameplay and made it into a 2 1/2 hour movie. seriously look it up, it covers jak 1 through 3 with daxter narating.
you actually did have some form of lock on in Jak 3, it was a weak element but it was there, it's just hard to notice since you often killed in practically two-three shots
I wish they do a game where Jak and Daxter meet Ratcher and Clank, and both characters have a new arsenal of guns and on ps3 so they have more room to work.

@MNiTFTW actually nughty dog " the creator of jak series and uncharted series and also the original crash series on the ps1 " have started to work on jak 4 but due to uncharted they have stop the jak 4 project saying they can't work on two big games in one time so they stated that the original crash series is for the ps1 and jak & daxter , jak2 , jak 3 , jak X is for the ps2 while uncharted series is going to be there franchise on the ps3.
People complaining about Daxter falling into more dark eco and mutating into Dark Daxter are beginning to irrirate me. No one KNOWS the effects dark eco ever has on anything and any given time, especially all of us OUTSIDE of the J&D universe. I think its pretty awesome that too much of the stuff turns him into something as grotesque as Dark Dax.
what i dont like about it is that fact that you cant use dark jack, i mean come on thats there biggest seller right there, when he gets pissed off and cant be stoped unless killed they need to come out with a nother game to where he is grown up and goes back in to time to make haven city.
Ratchet and Clank is an alien and a robot team up and Jak and Daxter are an elf and otsel team up, that's really all the difference. and Ratchet and CLank are still going strong while JD was practically abandoned by naughty dog after they made Jak 4
@Phillipasian they didn't drop it. they just switched gears for a bit. they mentioned in an interview that they would eventually come back to J&D...lets hope that plays through. Its highly likely though. after the lost frontier came, fans have been nagging NaughtyDog for a new jak game more than normal.
Anyone else think they're just bridging the gap between Jak and Ratchet? In this game they took away Jak's dark & light powers, and they gave him a plane. Also they gave Daxter a giant monster form, while Clank has had a giant robot form sense game 1.
@Poppy321s jak and daxter will be in heroes on the move, but naughty dog has nothing at all to do with it. with ratchet being on ps3 and sly 4 coming up, maybe him being in there means something, but if a new jak was made, it'd probably be made by someone else, and it'd probably be a huge disappointment.

I fall to my death every single time, no matter how many times I restart it. I finally gave up and I don't want to start the game again from the beginning 'cause I'm so deeply disappointed in every way. It's no fun.
But this was still ND's idea. They even worked closely with High Impact Games to make sure the game came out good. The only reason this game probally failed is because ND always loses their touch on a series when it comes to a 4th game of any series they make.

Veri Nyce I know right? I find this game is behind crued and someone forgot to play the trilogy of games. The trilogy of games are great. The PSP version crashes so damn much as well. It is a technical FAIL!
To me a game developer should always play past games before taking on that person's game IP. And the game developer behind the original series should ALWAYS be involved with the game. If don't get a disaster!
im starting to miss this game
it was pretty fun outside of the combat
it would have been fine but enemies were just too time consuming to kill
not to mention we went from 12 guns from jak 3 to 4 in tlf
which i can forgive IF I HAD A GODDAMN PECEMAKER

This butchered th Jak and Daxter series...
so instead of light/dark jak, he has some neutral abilities like slowing down time and the whole force field thing along with the green pillars. im sure that when you play the game, everything will answer it self.

I agree... Jak 2 was the best among all of its game. He was a complete bad ass character there and having an amazing story.
@cottonwell The PlayStation 2 version of "Jak and Daxter: The Lost Frontier" never made it to Platinum/Greatest Hits, and so it was never reduced in price officially. Still a very fun game to have, though, just not as good as the original four titles.
wow jak and dater have come a long way since the originals, jak 1 2 and 3. They made flying ones, racing ones, its all so different. i liked the first 3 better
@camybratt i see your point. i guess everyone has their own opinion about the game. i just wouldve preferred some sequels if it'd stuck with its original platformer version. before it became a platforming shooter.
naughty dog haven't said that they've quit on jak 4 yet. they said they were struggling with a good story alongside a lot of other elements which have unfortunately escaped me. at least it shows that they care more than high impact
I remember when I got this game; I started playing it and then I tried to do Jak's trademark barrel roll, but the game didnt include it. I was more than pissed. Please Naughty Dog, make another Jak and Daxter like the original 3!!
I always liked the jak and daxter series, and i played jak 2 and 3 again on my PS3, but i dont like how this game is only on the psp and ps2, a series like this needs to evolve
SPOILERS you make it sound so simple; the story still had some unanswered questions that badly need answering like how did young jak end up in haven city? what happened to jaks mother? and why is his apparent uncle in sandover village (jak and the explorer really look related).
man its been so long since I played Jak and daxter The Precursor legacy. I think that each of the first 3 were good in there own way. First one was great to start the story as a nice pretty paradise. Second one had a dark twist to things, had guns, had jak talk, had deep story and was reallly hard. The 3rd game was a good balance of everything. It had more guns, more vehicles, light jak, lots and lots of story plots and twists
you can, you just have to hold down the dpad instead of just tapping
In the next game they should have some effort, I mean something cool, in which you could join the combat racing (Jak X) as a minigame and you could play it as the traditional way. I mean, give jak with dark eco powers again, and this time, new and better powers. I expected more from them, and I was so freaking excited when I heard naughty dog was developing a new game last year, but then realized it was "The Last of Us" good game tho, but as many people, I am still waiting for a new jak game.
This game had a huge god of a game series to live up to. Too be honest, I was expecting something worse. The game is decent, not as good as 3 but still it was a fairly entertaining game, at least for me.
Man, I played Jak 3 on the PS2. It's the best fucking game for that console. Just a greaaat game.
Personally , I enjoyed this game. I liked how you could upgrade rides, use cool eco skills, play Dark Dax, etc.
The only things that bother me are the inability to go Dark Jak, the lack of characters from the original games, and, most of all, it's length. Everything's rushed and there is no foreshadowing whatsoever.
But I'm glad there was another J&D game. I was sad when it ended but now I hope it can go on through HIGH IMPACT GAMES. They really did an awesome job.
The gmeplay itself hasn't changed much really. All they added was Dogfight combat, Dark Daxter, Different Colored eco powers, and thats pretty much it.
@TompanX its mostly blonde...but there is some green in there.
Ratchet and Clank: Secret Agent Clank, Ratchet and Clank: Size Matters,Phineas and Ferb: Across the 2nd Dimension, assisted with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 on wii,and some planned games. I listed them, didn't say they were good. Also the company was composed of former Insomniac and Naughty Dog members.
Yeah, I aggree that going from the lighter original game to the darker sequel was a bit too fast but I still think that the darker Jak 2 wasn't bad and should have came sometime (maybe it sould have been the third or fourth instead of second) but like you said everyone has their own opinion.
Yeah but as an Ottsel/Precurser, being exposed to more dark eco. Could turn him into a dark maker, Now why doesn't daxter turn into a dark maker instead? because that was an early stage, If he was like this forever he would've turned into a complete Dark maker forever! So if you think happens to daxter when touching more dark eco well remember what Jak says to daxter in Jak 3? "Who knows what ore dark eco can do to you" And this is what happens.
actually the game is not too much of a setback, considering all the airplane fights and customizing your plane is amazing

Like i said, the Jak and Daxter series is one of my most favourite, seeing as the first ps2 game i played was in fact Precursor Legacy. But i think that they hav stretched the series out too far, sure there r still fans of it, but the jak and daxter hipe is long gone. Until they make another well worthy title for jak and daxter i think that this game should be the last.
dont understand why they didnt just release it for the ps3. It would of had a lot more to offer. I love jak and daxter and would love to see this on the ps3 instead of the psp
i agree. Jak 3 just might be THE best game I have ever played, believe it or not. the gameplay was excellent, the storyline intense and the conclusion extrememly satisfying. and now we have this new game, that has nothing at all to do with the actual storyline, and having just found out that Jak is actually the legendary Mar, it's kind of stupid having to go back to spin-kicking animals and firing a shitty version of the original scatter gun to kill enemies.
I'm a huge fan of the series, but I just wish they made this game on the PS2 or PS3, it would be so much better.

I didn't actually consider it a bad game. It's nothing compared to the original games but it is quite entertaining. I had problems with the camera angles , the Dark Daxter & a few other minor things but other than that I didn't HATE it. I just prefer the others more.

Very true. Some people actually forget that Dark Eco caused Daxter's transformation and started off the adventure of Jak and Daxter.
I like platform games, it is just that Crash never truly tickled my fancy.
i am very happy that jak and daxter is on the psp and is realy fun
but somethings i had problems with was he looks kinda like a kid with no goatee no dark jak..and they took out the legendary peacemaker...its the purple gun if you forgot. overall its awesome
the company that made ratchet and clank and the company that made jak are like best friends and their games hav usually been similar to eachother
or if you play someone with a slow connection - though that effects them more then you but is still in furriating

I think the ONLY reason why the people who dislike this game, dislike it because it's not developed by Naughty Dog. So what if it's not developed by Naughty Dog. It's STILL a great game. People just can't accept change.

@supermariolucas dude ya know they actualy had a jak and daxter movie. they took the cut scenes and some gameplay and made it into a 2 1/2 hour movie. seriously look it up, it covers jak 1 through 3 with daxter narating.
@R2BDSi Yeah, not to mention Ratchet & Clank pretty much has its own trilogy all ready on the PS3.
you actually did have some form of lock on in Jak 3, it was a weak element but it was there, it's just hard to notice since you often killed in practically two-three shots
I wish they do a game where Jak and Daxter meet Ratcher and Clank, and both characters have a new arsenal of guns and on ps3 so they have more room to work.
what im still tripp'n on is if sony was the first console to have a controller with 2 analog sticks why did they think that they didnt need one on the hand held

if daxers a precursor when dark eco hit him he should have turned into a darkmaker because thats what the precursors said in jak 3.
@MNiTFTW actually nughty dog " the creator of jak series and uncharted series and also the original crash series on the ps1 " have started to work on jak 4 but due to uncharted they have stop the jak 4 project saying they can't work on two big games in one time so they stated that the original crash series is for the ps1 and jak & daxter , jak2 , jak 3 , jak X is for the ps2 while uncharted series is going to be there franchise on the ps3.
People complaining about Daxter falling into more dark eco and mutating into Dark Daxter are beginning to irrirate me.
No one KNOWS the effects dark eco ever has on anything and any given time, especially all of us OUTSIDE of the J&D universe. I think its pretty awesome that too much of the stuff turns him into something as grotesque as Dark Dax.
what i dont like about it is that fact that you cant use dark jack, i mean come on thats there biggest seller right there, when he gets pissed off and cant be stoped unless killed
they need to come out with a nother game to where he is grown up and goes back in to time to make haven city.

Ratchet and Clank is an alien and a robot team up and Jak and Daxter are an elf and otsel team up, that's really all the difference.
and Ratchet and CLank are still going strong while JD was practically abandoned by naughty dog after they made Jak 4
The Dark Daxter camera perspective seems to be a good choice for the whole game.
@Phillipasian they didn't drop it. they just switched gears for a bit. they mentioned in an interview that they would eventually come back to J&D...lets hope that plays through.
Its highly likely though. after the lost frontier came, fans have been nagging NaughtyDog for a new jak game more than normal.
Anyone else think they're just bridging the gap between Jak and Ratchet?
In this game they took away Jak's dark & light powers, and they gave him a plane.
Also they gave Daxter a giant monster form, while Clank has had a giant robot form sense game 1.

@Poppy321s jak and daxter will be in heroes on the move, but naughty dog has nothing at all to do with it. with ratchet being on ps3 and sly 4 coming up, maybe him being in there means something, but if a new jak was made, it'd probably be made by someone else, and it'd probably be a huge disappointment.
Well....at least the duo are back! The game IS DECENT, so thats all that matters,right!
@RaiceaAndrei111 I somehow knew I would get a comment like that. I meant I've restarted my game dozens of times and the room JUST ISN'T THERE. Ever. I fall to my death every single time, no matter how many times I restart it. I finally gave up and I don't want to start the game again from the beginning 'cause I'm so deeply disappointed in every way. It's no fun.
The Jak and Daxter series is my most favorite game
But this was still ND's idea. They even worked closely with High Impact Games to make sure the game came out good. The only reason this game probally failed is because ND always loses their touch on a series when it comes to a 4th game of any series they make.
well thats may never happen because naughty dog and insonac confermed they arent thinking of making a game together but i realy would be cool to see rachet and clank meet jak and daxter
they spawned from Insomniac Games, and they made a Ratchet and Clank Game on the PSP that was very well received, they weren't nobody
i agree with you, but i didn't like the fact that they changed jak's voice to that other guy, but overall i still liked the game
